Cracking basses, I picked up a beaten up example recently for a similar price to what yours was offered at, I am really impressed with it, it has a huge output, it sounds and plays as well as any Precision I have ever played...enjoy

A very heavy relic indeed. A tad pricey too!

I love the way it was only the body that got brutally attacked...the neck must have been scared stiff wondering when it would see similar torture -
I love playing Don't Stop Me Now by Queen, just a great bassline to play, on a completely different tangent, Longview by Greenday is good to get right
From what I understand from various other threads it's a lot more complicated than just sticking some speakers in a cab... I think the cab needs to be modelled to see how different drivers would respond, otherwise you could end up with a cab emphasising odd frequencies that would sound crap... Then again you could ignore all conventional wisdom and build yourself an 8x15 with all the speakers pointing at each other and hope for the best...
I don't know I agree with this theory, the good old Celestion Vintage 30 is a common swap into many different guitar cabs and, as far as I am aware, usually gives a big improvement, probably purely because it is a higher quality speaker than the normal, manufacturer price driven, unit.... See if the cab builders recommend anything specific for the cab, if not visit the likes of Celestion and see if anything takes your fancy, they do have sound clips available for a lot of the speakers but that has always confused me as if I listen to the clip on the laptop it will sound crap...if I listen through the hifi it will sound much better! so surely the clip quality is driven by the speakers you listen to them through!

Best Precision type bass for about £500
Roger2611 replied to jonnythenotes's topic in General Discussion
Evilbay currently has an all black 86 (ish) E serial numbered MIJ Precision Bass Special with a BIN of £475.00 that was the year there was no American instruments made, so effectively these were the American Precisions of that period, I have just picked up a worse conditioned pearl white example, it is way better than my 79 American bass and is as good as any Precision I have ever played -
I really regret selling 3 basses, my Bass Collection SB801, it may be the only one ever built!, my Bass Collection SB602 Fretless (modified by Pete Davis) to a Ebony fretboard and my 78 Sunburst Precision, well the neck was 78, it turned out after I sold it the the body was a 1963, I doubt the bass exists anymore due to the way I was approached to sell it...but that's another story

Selling on Basschat, a suggestion to the MODs
Roger2611 replied to bassface2k10's topic in General Discussion
But im mainly coming at it as a seller, not a tyre kicker
You may dive into the section as a tyre kicker but you may spot something that turns you into a buyer! GAS -
We have just added New Sensation by INXS to our set, it is not a song I like but because most of the bass line is played with an open E string I just feel so limited in what I can do with the song so for that reason it is a song I hate playing

I guess it depends on what you are selling, if I have something that I want a minimum price for, then I list that as a starting price, if it doesn't sell then it stays with me, other stuff I list at a 99p starting price and, as mentioned above, let it find it's own value, most items reach what I hoped, occasionally something will make more, my worst one was a Peavey Firebass head and 2 Blackwidow loaded 1x15 cabs that only made £220.00 the guy that won it said it was the best bargain he ever got, I hope he still has backache from moving the bloody thing!

A friend of mine has brought a couple of twin neck guitar / bass kits, they actually play reasonably well, he came to me to wire them up.....total nightmare...ended up with both necks on at the same time or off at the same time...I couldn't get my head round 3 selector switches in the system!
-
The Peavey's should be very reliable but we had a set of Hysis 2's and had real problems with feedback, I then picked up a set of Martin CS2's....ok the Martin's new were far more expensive but used I gave £150.00 for the pair, sold the Peavey's for £180.00....£30.00 up on the deal and now with Martin Audio gear our sound is much better without the feedback problems we got with the Peaveys'

For me, nothing more than one I enjoy doing....if I am not enjoying it I doubt I am gaining anything from it

Tom Robinson - Powder/Baby Blue Precision.

I have a feeling it was a Daphine Blue which was a standard Fender Colour, I think you can still get a Squier Vintage Modified Strat in Daphine Blue, it's years since I last saw that video, think I still have it on an old VHS cassette somewhere -
Bass bash = the standard of most relics currently offered on Evilbay

I have the Classic 4 in White, it is badly built, difficult to set up well and no doubt won't last too long....however, you can set them up, they sound really good for the money, they look fantastic and it is smile on your face bass playing, the controls are as sensible as the Gretsch's they seek to emulate....I really like mine and am more likely to gig it than my Warwick.....go for it, don't expect steller build quality and you won't go far wrong

Stage clix radio system. Poor quality
Roger2611 replied to jonnythenotes's topic in General Discussion
I would like to add a different slant to this thread, we gigged the other weekend at a proper little venue, the DJ wanted to stream our set live to the tinterweb thingy, anyway we went on a played a blinder, the DJ came round afterwards and said he had been unable to stream the set because as soon as we went onstage the wifi went down and didn't come back until we had finished..... he asked if anyone had used a digital wireless system.....it turns out I was blocking the wifi for the entire set!! -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-PRECISION-BASS-Guitar-All-Set-Nice-Player-/291420633709?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43da05fa6d This one worries me a little, I read somewhere that a genuine Fender neck with truss rod adjustment at the headstock will always have some kind of inlay in the truss rod hole, it that is correct then this is not a genuine Fender neck! Any thoughts?
OK ;-) This why I am constantly surprised that musicians who own or have owned custom or high-end basses can't see that one bass is not any kind of substitute for another at anything other than the very cheap end of the Fender copy market (and perhaps not even then). In the high-end and custom instrument market there is no "best bass". There might be basses that are more suitable for you and basses that offer better value for money to you, but ultimately it's all subjective and dependent upon how much disposable cash a particular person has available to buy musical instruments.
This is so true, I own a good few Precisions of different eras and countries of origin, each is entirely different to the others, none are better or worse, just different, they are all worth what I paid for them because I could afford them and liked them enough to add them to the family

Just looking at the listing again, it was sold for the £1200 asking price which has got him a negative feedback from the newish buyer, just saying "Fake Bass" it just goes to show, if in doubt...get it on here and we can tell you if it's an obvious wrong un!
