Embarassingly it was Sid Vicious that made me want to play bass and he wasn't even the third best bass player in the Pistols! I thought he looked cool so that was that.....I wish I could say it was Norman Watt Roy or JJ Bunel but no sadly it was Sid, in my defence I was only 14 at the time m'lud

I have a Rega Planet deck with an exposure amp and CD player and PMC TB2 speakers, yes it sounds great but I still can't be bothered to play vinyl very often, I have an old Dell computer hooked up to the system, it has not been allowed to go online for the last ten years, all music is tranferred to it via memory stick, it works perfectly and just gives me easy access to my full song library, through the amp and speakers it sounds fine

To quote Motorhead "Everything louder than everything else" I think the problem is we tend to use smaller amps with tiny speakers for practice, tiny speakers struggle to deliver much in the way of bass so quiet practice on a small amp will never deliver the balls of a big gig set up

I really liked the first few Kiaser Chief hits, personally I was never an Oasis fan (purely Liam and to a lesser extent Noel's attitude) but I can see why people liked them, I have to admit I have mellowed to Noel a bit more nowadays and he does say some very interesting things, Liam is still a prize cock through!
Rather unromantically 'Cause we've ended as lovers' from Blow By Blow Jeff Beck.
Similar to the above, "No More I Love You's" by The Lover Speaks, still listen to it today (the original of course not the Annie Lennox version) Great bass line as well

Have decided I really need to kick myself up the arse
Roger2611 replied to Thunderbird's topic in General Discussion
I tend to pick up the bass for at least a few minutes every day and just play a few lines from either the covers set list or our originals set list, I really try not to be critical of my playing especially when it comes to practice, I am working on a version of Soft Cell's Say Hello Wave Goodbye with a Pino esque frettless bass line, that has inspired me to go back and play the Paul Young stuff again and hence improve my frettless playing again. I don't think I would bother practising if I were just going to be unhappy with the results, think positive you are a far better bass player than most people in this world! -
Messing up in the first bar of the first song at your first gig, perfect, you got the cock up out of the way nice and quick then probably relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the gig, welcome to the world of gigging

I am not sure they are especially sought after either!

I came across an 83 JV Squier Jazz today at a local music shop, it's totally original in sunburst with a tort scratch plate and a rosewood neck, it looks to be in very good condition and it comes with a tweed hard case, the shop owner is a bassist so knows what a good bass is, he will take £750.00 for it, if anyone is interested pm me if you want contact details I must add the bass has nothing to do with me, much as I love the look of a Jazz I just cannot get a decent sound out of them! as others have said, part of the sound track to my life, RIP Steve, I will give Fade To Grey a spin on the turntable tonight

Fantastic amp, I have an Orange covered one, converted to a 12" speaker

As someone else said earlier in this thread a great album that is hiding in plain site, for me, The Cult, Love album fits the bill

Your average punter doesn't care what bass you are playing, the only basses that has been deemed worthy of comment in the last few years were my Warwick Corvette $$ German dealer edition (the guy was a bass player and Warwick fan and recognised it was not a standard Warwick) and my £100 Squier Mike Dirnt Precision ( a guy came up and said "like that bass it sounds great") so my most expensive bass drew a comment from a Warwick fan and my cheapest bass drew comment from a general punter.....it does put gear snobbery in to perspective!
-
Yeah, I also think it is a series 4000 bass, I sold a tatty but standard series 3000 ( same bass but with a wood finish) for £425.00 last year with original hard case and a new set of strings
-
I have always fancied one of those but have always been put off by the weight of them, I saw a magazine article last year where a guy owned one that weighed in at 23 lbs!!! prey tell how much does your weigh?
-
I have had a couple of Maya basses, the necks were excellent on both, at £100 for a P it has to be good value as long as it doesn't have a truss rod cover spoiling the headstock end, the earlier comment about ranges is correct, the replica basses are excellent, the Kay / Satellite copies not so good

Whats the hardest bassline you've ever played?
Roger2611 replied to rodneymullen's topic in General Discussion
For me it is Pino playing "Wherever I Lay My Hat" not the hardest bassline to get close to right but to get it spot on and maintain the feeling of the original....well after decades of playing it (as an occasional fretless practice song) I still cannot master it -
I would be amazed if that trade gets completed, even with the super distortion pickups, hugely overpriced sale.....I still have my one (my first guitar) which I wouldn't part with for love nor money, but still £510 for a Columbus if the trade goes through the seller can count it as a small lottery win!

Interesting seating for players...
Roger2611 replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Wow.....I so want one, however Mrs2611 has played the taste card and banned any such item from darkening our toilet -
Fender Precision, white with black headstock, BIN£250!
Roger2611 replied to Paul S's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It weighs in at just under 10lbs and has a standard Precision nut width, a new set of strings, a bloody good clean up and everything works as it should, the neck is quick and easy, everything a Jap precision should be really, -
Fender Precision, white with black headstock, BIN£250!
Roger2611 replied to Paul S's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Just tooooo tempting I am afraid -

I have to admit it is tempting at that price.....just can't justify it at the moment -
Am I too shallow for leaving this band?
Roger2611 replied to MikanHannille's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like a typical vocalist to me.....the better they are the more objectionable they can be....ours independently appointed himself as musical director even though he can't play a single instrument....I just let him get on with it up to a point where I get pished off with him, I then take great pleasure in exposing his total lack of understanding of music and hence sending him scurrying back into his box for a couple of months...the rest of the band have an agreement that this is how we deal with him....the point of this is....he is a damn fine singer and a bloody good front man....can we do better...simply, no, so in the interests of having the best band we can we tolerate and humour where needed, he is not a total arse just a typical front man! -
I posted our latest song on here a while back, definitely the best song I have ever played on, but how does it stand to critique from your peers? It took a lot of soul searching before I decided to share it....shouldn't have worried, it got 2 listens and 2 comments only.....I guess most people on here are not really interested in what your fellow Baschatters are creating.....said song got played on Radio 1 a few weeks later.....after 30 years of trying....did I mention it on here at the time.....nah didn't bother
