1. I consider myself friends with my band mates but being as I am an awkward b'stard they may think of me differently....what they don''t understand is....I'm an artist baby
2. My first proper gig, circa 1988ish, High Hall, Birmingham supporting a band suitably named "Stress" who were number 12 in the charts on the day, I had only ever played to 1 man and his dog on my previous two pub gigs.....anyway part way through the 5th or 6th song my bass lead stopped working...no warning, no crackle, no nothing....I didn't know what had stopped working bass, amp, PA I turned my amp on and off....nothing, swapped to a spare bass...nothing....I wanted to die....somewhere around 800 people watching this Muppet standing there on stage looking dazed and confused....anyway finally the sound engineer arrived and threw another lead at me and shouted try that...thankfully it worked......have I ever been nervous onstage again....not a chance...do I still use a radio system...you betcha!
3. I use a Hiwatt guitar head for bass (with bass cabs) they are ok but the tone controls tend to be biased towards guitar frequencies so you may find, like me. that you have to turn the bass and mids up full to get a decent sound
4. I see it finally sold for £995, hopefully not to a Bass chat member, I have posted my disgust on their Trust and safety forum, my wife suggested reporting Ebay to trading standards as they failed to act despite being told it was a fake, but I guess it would have to depend on how many people actually reported it as a fake
5. My only concern would be that the bridge looks very new for a 41 year old bass, from the pictures the rest looks ok to me
6. The seller is fully aware that it is a fake by now yet has chosen to leave the listing in place, Ebay are also fully aware it is a fake yet they seem happy to let the listing run...a lawsuit waiting to happen
7.
Something is amiss here. I wonder can ebay intervene in this kind of situation? This is almost certainly a deliberate forgery, and however the seller came about it - fair or foul - it shouldn't just roll on. I've not sold stuff on ebay so I don't really know how it works.
I believe it has already been reported and Ebay have decided not to pull it, it is pretty clear to any knowing buyer that it is a fake and anyone on here would hopefully put it up to scrutiny from our learned friends as above. Hopefully no one will fall for it and it will remain unsold....but I agree Ebay should be more responsive when they are advised as item is a definite fake
8. I see a certain regular contributor to these pages who also just happens to live in said area has been strangely silent thus far
9. A lot of people have commented on the range being too diverse for its own good, I agree when it comes to the mainstay instruments like the Strat and Tele and to some extent the Precision and Jazz, there must be 100+ different variations of the Strat on the market now covering all price ranges and just about every spec and colour....I think this makes the range confusing and devalues the guitar somewhat, however, the range diversification has allowed me to buy a Bass V1 at an affordable price something I would not have been able to do without the cheaper ranges. Build quality wise, every guitar is different, I have a Mexican 50's Classic Precision and to me it is the best [s]Precision[/s] bass I own, I have a 62 std reissue Jap Strat which again is fantastic I did own a 2012 Strat which again was fantastic the key being try before you buy and that way you buy the guitar that feels best to you. It will be a shame to see Fender reduce the options available to us but I can see the need to do so, what concerns me more is (and please tell me if I am wrong) Fender still do all of the distribution for Gretsch, which has been built up from near extinction over the past twenty years I would hate to see Gretsch fail because of market repositioning by Fender
10. I still have all of my old vinyl and a good quality record deck, I dig it out from time to time but I find it a pain in the backside nowadays, half of the records jump, are warped or crackle horribly....it is much easier to have all the songs on the media player and play them via a decent sound card straight to the hifi. The records have recently moved out of the living room for the first time in 20 years, we are revamping the room in the new year at which point the record deck will move upstairs to my playroom to. It's a shame as I used to love playing my records.
11. I messaged the seller, his response is below: I passed on your message to my Father who has responded as follows. “Thanks for your comments. I bought this guitar from a well known and upstanding music shop in Mesa Arizona. I was informed that this was a genuine 1969 Fender Precision bass. It was a long time ago and was given an absolute guarantee it was the genuine article. I did have some paperwork but that disappeared years ago. I do remember questioning the bridge and was told that the previous owner had drilled a couple of extra holes to add strength to the fixing. The tuners are original as bought as was the neck with its allen key adjustment. The nut is positioned absolutely correctly but I changed it myself to a black graphite nut as, at the time, I thought it looked better in black. I have checked the neckplate and serial number with Fender and believe that it is absolutely accurate for a ‘69 USA Precision Bass. I hope this answers your questions. You are more than welcome to inspect this bass guitar which is located in North Yorkshire.” I think the seller genuinely believes it is the real deal.
12. It looks very shaky to me, the ill fitting nut, the uniform direction of scratching to the neck plate, the incorrect truss rod adjuster etc etc. the whole thing looks like an amateur attempt to defraud, what worries me is the description from a seller with 100% feedback across 1900 transactions, he suggests he knows where it came from and where it has been for 22 years plus, either this is a very early attempt at a dodgy precision copy and the seller and his father were genuinely had over or it is a blatant lie
13. Looks good, might be interested in the SVT 7 Pro
14. I have an amp for sale on Ebay at the moment, I have listed at £100 start price I have been offered £500 in PX from PMT but they don't have the amp I want, I will withdraw it from Ebay on Saturday evening if it hasn't attracted any bids, I can't run the risk of it fetching nothing, I sold a Peavey Firebass head and Peavey Black window loaded 4x10 and 1x15 stack a couple of years back, the amp was basically new...I let it run thinking it would hit the £500 mark in the last few minutes...it didn't and I ended up getting £220 for the lot...the guy who collected it said it was the best bargain he had ever got....so I don't think it is necessarily true that items find their true value
15. I had to lend my back up bass to a support band who thought they had had theirs stolen from the back of the car when loading out from the previous days festival....he looked after mine really well...it subsequently turned out that he had got totally hammered at the previous days festival and had given the bass to his girlfriend to look after...she took it home with her and forgot to mention the fact the following day!
16.
I found no difference really - but then I'm an 'everything-on-full-all-the-time' kind of guy.
Exactly the same for me, I fitted a set of Lindy Fralin's at the same time, still don't like the sound of the bass
17.
How aboot this https://www.youtube....h?v=70aANO8GPm0 It get's a mention here: http://www.premiergu...retboard_Design
I quite like that idea but I bet it has a big impact on the sound of the bass
18. Our drummer was admitted to hospital with heart concerns earlier in the year, then I broke my arm......your not our guitarist in disguise are you? No you can't be you didn't mention your singer being seconded to Japan for three months taking us out until Christmas. It's ok we already have 24 gigs booked in for next year. Don't worry you will get gigging in the end
19.
call it steve
That's my cat's name, he says it's taken
20. Sigue Sigue Sputnik.....saw them at Coventry Poly on their first tour.....they were not very good, I remember Tony James threatening to bottle a girl because she shouted out she loved him! Still listen to a few songs off the album every now and then....have fun
21. https://soundcloud.c...emo-by-yodaclub Hi guys after a year or more in the making (we have been busy writing and gigging as well) we finally have our first demo track done, I think this is the best original stuff I have played on in more than 30 years of playing. Please have a listen and comment if you see fit, if you like it we are on face book and are working towards 100.000 likes this year......we are currently at 125 so we have a way to go Rog
22. "Big sound....what more could you want"....err well a price that is not more than a new one would be a start!
23. I knew nothing about it just told Mrs2611 about it as it is one of her favourite albums... I am currently wearing one of her shoes as a hat
24.
Practice , practice and even more practice .
As above, I have learnt to do some for our band, once I knew the bassline so well that I couldn't get it wrong then practicing backing vox was a bit easier, however there are still some songs that I cannot play without a pick if I am doing backing vox!
