1. I think you can just look at this forum to see that a great bass doesn't have to be an expensive bass, there is a lot of love on here for Bass Collection basses and Squire VM basses, personally I regularly gig an £80 battered half to death, Squier Mike Dirnt Precision, brought purely because a few people on here raved about how good they are....they were completely correct, it is as good and giggable as any of the far more expensive basses I own, in fact on two occasions only someone has come up after a gig and said "wow your bass sounded awesome" both gigs were with the Mike Dirnt Squier !
2. I am looking out for a used Fretless sunburst Stingray / Sterling but I don't want to spend a load of money on one, I have looked at the Sterling CA34 but it doesn't look like there are sunbursts in the UK at the moment
3. We played a wedding anniversary last year and the couple wanted "You Spin Me Round" by Dead or Alive, I worked the bass line out on bass but couldn't get it to sound right so I worked it out on my Micro Korg, I played it on the night it sounded great and I really enjoyed it, I now try to work out all of our original song bass lines on the synth just to see how they sound
4. They interviewed a doctor on radio 5 the other year who was very successful at getting people to quit smoking, his biggest tip was "don't use patches or any Nicotine replacement tools, Nicotine is what keeps you addicted, so you decide to quit smoking all filled with will power, you stick the patches on so the craving goes away, 3 months down the line you ween yourself off the patches only to find the cravings return but the will power has long since gone" I guess it does make sense if you think about it. For me I quit cold turkey about six years ago (or three more basses ago ) Just give up for a while you can always take it up again in the future if you so desire!
5. I have already made the seller aware it is not genuine, he has not removed it, I have also reported it to Ebay and they have thus far not removed it either
6. I had a package delivered last week, left with someone down the road who I don't even know and to top it all not even a card through the door, it was a good thing my neighbour was honest otherwise I would never have seen it.....I assume this was the new 3rd class mail system where they just drop the package off in the general postcode area and walk away
7. I have just installed a set of Fralin 5% overwounds in my Jazz bass, they sound fantastic, I was looking at selling the bass as I just couldn't get a sound I liked from it, the Fralins have transformed the bass, it has more power and bite but has a proper full range sound to it. I highly recommend them
8. I think the defret is a good idea (I have actually been looking at a Musicman Sub and a defret myself purely because there are no affordable fretless examples out there at the moment) I already have a plain board fretless Precision but I recently played a lined fretless JD Custom bass and was amazed how much easier the lines actually make it even though the way to play a fretless properly is by ear rather than looking at your finger positions. I say go for it
9. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gretsch-Anniversary-Special-Limited-Edition-better-than-new-/221548011330?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item33954a5f42 I am not normally big on gold guitars and actually haven't lusted after a six string for a good few years now but boy did that change when I saw this!
10. I got through to Golden [s]balls[/s] ears but then my head fell off
11.
Jeez - 1st World Problems or what???? You got a free album and to the best of my knowledge no-one has died because of it. What are you going to do when something REALLY horrible happens to you Like a Cliff Richard album appearing on your phone
excellent
12. I have already messaged the seller to tell him it is not a genuine neck, he came back to me saying he would remove the listing, then put it back up as a USA neck again...negative feedback just waiting to happen if someone buys it
13. Perfect storage for the good old 7" single, 200 to be precise
14. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Musicman-Ernie-Ball-StingRay-5-String-Bass-/121431335939?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c45df2403 Just seen this on Evilbay, I didn't know they used a 4 bolt neck and bullet truss rod?
15. We play 2x45 plus a couple of three encores, most pubs pay £250 for that round here, we did a working mens club this year that demanded 3x45 for the same £250, the place was always empty anyway...after the last gig there this year they said "can we book you for three gigs next year"....we politely declined
16. It should be a decent playing Japanese made instrument, I bet it will be a bit of a heavyweight though
17. The lovely Mesa Boogie 1516E and what looks like a Trace Elliot Twin Valve is exactly the same set up I gigged for years and hence reminds me of exactly why my back is burgered
18. I worked with them when they played the Roadmender in Northampton back in 1986ish when they had their original singer, they were the only band I worked with that beat me on the Pool table, cracking bunch of guys from memory
19. I always rehearse the set at home on the day then have a short nap to ensure the practice session has sunk in.....I read somewhere that it is a great learning technique....I think the chap that wrote it was also selling snake oil.....but you never know!
20. Hi and welcome, from a personal prospective from your list I would probably go for the Musicman Sub as it has a good tonal range and a decent sized neck but, for the price of a new Sub, you would be able to pick up a good number of higher quality second hand basses i.e a USA Musicman Sub, Mexican Fender Precisions or Jazz's, Japanese Bass Collections and Ibanez Soundgear basses yo name but a few, I would visit you local music shop and play what you like to look of, decide on a style you like and are comfortable with then possibly look for a used one.....bear in mind you will also want an amp of some kind as practicing with an unplugged electric bass is hardly inspiring
21. I love to try new things, I come from a punk / indie back ground, I can do that with my eyes shut but I am drawn to anything that expands my musical knowledge and ability (except slapping I have to draw the line somewhere, I am crap at it anyway)
