If you happen to be lucky enough to own an early Fender Precision Lyte you will need to replace the battery every other month without fail, mine is fantastic is gives you precisely no warning what so ever that the battery is dying, literally plugged it in for the sound check it worked perfectly, unplugged it again, went onstage twenty minutes later played the first note and it died! (apparently it is a known fault on these basses and again apparently there is a fix for it but the guy who mentioned it couldn't remember what the fix was!) Still one of my favourite basses but I always have a spare bass close to hand if I am gigging it

I had the strangest gear failure last night, part way through the second set I noticed the E string getting louder and eventually buzzier, I had to tune it back up a couple of times...anyway on closer inspection at the end of the night the E string saddle was flat on the bass plate as both saddle screws had completely unwound....I could understand it if this were a new bass but it is a 10 year old Precision with 100's of gigs behind it and has never had this problem before.... I wonder what would suddenly cause something like that to happen? New bridge on order today

1959 Precision Buy it now £2000
Roger2611 replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Ebay are pretty good at pulling them, they are dead easy to spot.....ultra high end gear at a low starting price and strangely usually with a £24.00 postage charge for some reason. When you report them, it is listing practices, you suspect a listing is fraudulent, you didn't bid on the item...or something like that Ebay will do the rest -
Why so much buying and selling of basses?
Roger2611 replied to jakenewmanbass's topic in General Discussion
Very much as above, I am a P bass man but I like to "road test" some different basses, next on my list is a Yamaha BB 1024 or 2024, my only worry is that I might like it too much which would then bring into question whether I keep all of the P basses. I have no kids and a very small mortgage so I am lucky I can afford to rent a few basses that I fancy -
Providing you have the standard precision pick up shape, the SD will fit but you may end up having to enlarge the scratch plate cut out a little as, from experience, no replacement pickup will be a guarenteed fit

I can't remember neck dive being a huge problem with mine, I will have to check the brochure to see if it was available in Sunburst, I have a feeling they were Graphite, Red or Black but I stand corrected
-
I assume the chap knows nothing about guitar colours! I used to own one of these, it was a surprisingly good bass especially for the money they were new, mine was in exactly the same "sunburst" or Graphite finish!
As far as songs go I leave it up to the guitarist and singer. Too many bands where the setlist has caused enough problems to spend anymore time discussing what to play. Tell me what to play. I'll learn it and play it. Job done.
Surely you must draw the line somewhere? We are a punky / indie covers band, when the vocalist started pushing to do "Moves Like Jagger" I threatened to walk....safe to say Moves Like Jagger is not going to be in the set anytime soon

Welcome to the human race? It's Elo and Mr Blue Sky. Ok my go "And I'm sitting in the kitchen sink" next line, artist and title too please
-
I doubt he will get into any heaven if he is going to continue "playing" and "singing" I am sure even God would have to draw the line somewhere
Of course you are right. In my youth, venues handled their own ticket sales, or (somewhat straining my memory here) you could get them from some of the independent record shops. I'm not certain whether these shops charged a fee on top of the face value, I think they took their commission out of the face value, or else acted as agents in return for the increased footfall. Ticket-selling then was mainly a local activity, whereas now the Internet has made it global. To me, the worst of it is the lack of any serious attempt to enforce anti-touting measures. A venue is not going to implement any system that slows down punters coming through the door and flocking to the bar to buy overpriced beer in flimsy plastic glasses. I believe Glastonbury has an effective system, although I've never been. I wouldn't mind so much failing to get a ticket if I were 'competing' against other genuine potential gig-goers; in fact the competition is with loads of people buying simply to make an instant mark-up. A while back I tried to buy tickets for a one-off small gig by Robert Plant. I knew my chances were slim so I wasn't too surprised when I didn't get any. I went on eBay straight away, and sure enough immediately found a listing for a pair of tickets at twice the face value. The listing was quite lengthy and detailed, so the seller had obviously prepared it beforehand, then started it running once they'd obtained tickets. People can now become touts in the comfort of their own home! I didn't buy the tickets btw, but they went pretty quickly. Unfortunately, the chances are slim for any legislation (or even a worthwhile industry code) to address online touting. The present government will not do anything to restrict the 'free market' (never mind that it is in fact being distorted) and the industry players are doing quite nicely thank you very much.
I fully agree I see the "Rumours" line up of Fleetwood Mac are touring North America this year......They are the one band Mrs2611 would love to see, I know full well if they do come over here the greedy scumbag touts will see to it that it will be unaffordable to go.......I will start my guess at £140.00 each for tickets and once the oinking touts get in there I can see them being upwards of £500.00 a pop.......even at the start price I very much doubt we would be going

I assume it is aimed at those who haven't figured whether they play left or right handed yet......I am sure it won't have a rather limited market then! -

The Cure's Close To Me or Love Cats would have to be contenders -
Hi guys, I recently picked up a Hiwatt Hi-Gain 100 for a price it would have been rude to refuse, I always wanted another valve head for bass and thought this would do the job....it is not quite there though, I am struggling to get enough volume from it before it start distorting too much, I assume that is because it is the hi-gain version....could I re-valve the head to lower the gain channels and get more headroom? And could I change anything to make it a little more bassy? Cheers Rog
