And you think you have too much gear........
Roger2611 replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
You can never have too much gear it's impossible, build extension if need be -
Don't let any guitarists see this, they always think themselves superior to bass players and I notice on the videos the guitar has no strings on it so I assume programing a guitarist is harder than programing a bass player........oh the shame of it.......still it goes to prove we actually are half way between a drummer and a musician!

Hi, As requested the following is from their facebook page, unfortunately no specific detail on the guitars. The Jets wrote: "THE JETS have their van and all equipment stolen. The well known top Rockin' band The Jets, have had a terrible end to 2012. Their Sprinter 313 lwb panel van was stolen on 21st December 2012 between 23.15 hrs and 00.15 hrs on the 22nd December. From Northampton UK. It was fully locked, alarmed, immobilised and steering wheel crook locked with flashing light (the size of a dustbin lid). The van was pulled onto a breakdown lorry, White with red lettering on the front ( possibly says something or other ; RETRIEVAL SERVICES) One of the culprits was, a white male approx 6 feet tall stocky build with cropped or shaven black hair. The Sprinter van is white with Black privacy windows fitted into the sliding door and the panel behind the driver. The rest of the window recess along each side of the van has been wrapped with black sticker, to look like the appearance of windows all along the side. It has rear mudflaps. The two back door window recesses are also blacked to look like windows. There is also a chrome security bolt cropper proof clasp and padlock just below the central sprinter badge. The three Cotton brothers had all of their equipment inside the rear compartment, which is totally separate to the front of the van which was fitted with reclining seats, none of the kit was on show to the public. The brothers would like to make other bands and businesses aware of this type of crime and the impact that it has on the lives of the victims. As most of the readers know, The Jets have been playing Rock 'n' Roll music for 37years and have had numerous hit records around the world, but this is the first time in their long career that anything like this has happened. They are devastated, as I'm sure most people will realise. This is the brothers full time profession, so this now means that until the lads get another van and the tools of their trade replaced, they are going to find it extremely hard to work and earn their living. Lights Out, who are the sons of The Jets have been able to let their dads' use their van and equipment to get them through the christmas period, but they obviously have their own shows to perform. This is a list of some of the missing equipment: 2400 watt active HK pa system in covers, Peavey 24fx mixing desk with multicore connection in flight case, 16/4 studiospares multicore and stagebox, rack mount compressors and limiters enclosed in a moulded flight box, 2 x wharfedale 15” monitors, Peavey t-max bass combo and speaker, Double bass with magnetic pick ups in a green bass bag, spare set of pick ups and strings for the bass, Fender telecaster custom made guitar in flight case, Peavey classic 50 fitted with G12 celestion speakers in a flight case, Premier 5 piece black drum kit with sabian and zildjian cymbals, various effects pedals and guitar tuners, 12 LED dmx stage lights on bars, 4 lighting stands, light controller and foot pedals etc, lighting leads, speaker connecting leads, microphones and stands, mains boards, the list goes on and on...... The Jets would like to put out a request to any ex Bass players, drummers and guitarists who may have kit that they no longer use, or have spare and may wish to sell, please contact The Jets on 01604 752800 or email them at If the kidney transplants that all three brothers went through a few years back didn't stop them from Rockin' then nothing will, even if they have to start again from the bottom !!! Even though the van was secured, alarmed and immobilised, they never dreamed that the whole lot would be dragged onto the back of a recovery/retrieval truck. ….................THIS IS A WARNING TO ALL BANDS..................BEWARE OF THIEVES !!!!!"

Hi guys, I read in the local paper today that The Jets had their van stolen from Northampton on Dec 23rd with all their gear inside, I have messaged them for a list of exactly what was stolen (I will repost with a list if I get one) but in the meantime please keep your ears to the ground for anyone selling rockabilly type musical gear that appears to know little or nothing about it. Cheers

An interesting thread but missing 1 guitar, back in the very late 80's I owned a Bass Collection SB602 (the fretless version) which was my main gigging and recording bass I wore the fretboard out quite badly and ended up having an Ebony fretboard fitted by Pete Davis of Goddfellow fame, so if you've got that one I would like it back :-) Shortly after buying the 602 I was offered it's "sister" bass from the same source my 602 came from, I became the proud owner of the only SB801 that I have ever come across, it had a quilted maple top, through neck with a standard ebony board...it was a stunning guitar. Unfortunately I found that I tended to kick the G string off the side of the fretboard (poor technique me thinks now!) so it was sold on pretty quickly and replaced with a Tune Wood Bass that I also failed to get on with. I still have some photo's of it somewhere (just to prove it really did exist) if I can find them I will get them uploaded -
Played The Cardigan Arms in Stanion last night (tiny village just outside Corby) tipical village pub with the band playing in one room and the crowd? stood in the other and neither band nor crowd should ever cross the others threshold!! Probably the hottest pub I have ever played in (not helped by the 3 par cans I used to cook the drummer (well you just have too don't you!!)) Landlord said we were the best band he had ever had in the pub (I have a feeling we are only the second band to play there) and has booked us again for next year, weird sound as half way through the second set everytime I played F# it felt like the building was going to crumble, by the time we had finished it had returned to normallity.....I have never been able to work out why that happens...any ideas? ! more gig to come this year depping on bass for the band I used to play guitar in...should be fun

I used to be an avid buyer of the old bassist magazine and still have quite a few copies which I dig out and re-read from time to time, for the last few years I have been playing guitar in a band and was buying both Guitar and Bass and the now defunct Guitar Buyer magazines, I have to admit that towards the end I got increasingly fed up with the "metal" direction Guitar buyer seemed to be going and I stopped buying it. I decided to give BGM a try and have brought 3 or 4 issues but I have really struggled to engage with them. I think the bass world is really lacking some of the big personalities of old and I also think that mainstream music is missing those equally big basslines of old (the likes of Stevie Wonder, Pino with both Paul Young and Gary Numan, the whole new romantic scene with the likes of Heaven 17 and Duran Duran etc) I maybe wrong but the bass doesn't seem to be as cool as it once was. I had commented to my wife whilst looking at a recent issue that nearly every bass reviewed was a 5 or 6 string monster offering it's future well heeled owner little change from 3 grand, something that after 20 plus years of playing to a good standard I still cannot ever envisage paying for a guitar, especially a brand new instrument! I am not afraid of spending decent money on a bass but find the high end exotica often reviewed of little or no interest and judging by the bands I am seeing they are not finding their way on to many stages. Ok so to me you have limited perzazz to work with at the moment and sometimes it feels like there is a wealth of really low budget starter (and give up quickly) basses and lots of ultra high end (if only I could get a mortgage) basses and not a lot of exciting ones in between, so what would I like to see...you cant beat a good old shootout....how does a standard stingray compare against a similar priced Ibanez or Fender, what else fits the bill, what barges it's way into the shootout and says "I might not have the badge image but I can beat you all for quality and sound" I would like to see back to back comparisons between digital amps, transistor amps and good old heavy valve amps...I would like to see recommendations about used bases and guides as to their values and finally I would like to see recommendations as to where to find those great basslines that people must still be writing. Whilst writing this I was racking my brain to think about what I really liked about the BGM's that I brought and one series of articles stood head and shoulders above everything else for me and that was what other musicians look for in a bass player, having just gone back from guitar to full time bass I found those articles really informative. I would like to fall in love with your magazine and I will keeppicking up issues and see where it goes
