1. Still waiting for someone with a limelight P to upload some tones getting seriously itchy over ordering my own!
 2.
I second all of this! I love the CTM 300 to pieces and cannot wait to let it roar with my new band once we get gigging. Just need to get my flightcase sorted for it and find a way of getting it in the car alongside the ABM 610... Which should get a priority seat; my CTM or my girlfriend?
Oh it roars! It's an incredible amp! Now, let's be realistic here, your bank balance might not handle a new girlfriend
 3. Now that we've discussed the intricacies of logo usage and whether Mark at Limelight should or shouldn't use it, I think it's about time we forget all about this issue now and get back to discussing the wonderful basses Mark is producing. At the end of the day Mark himself knew that Fender logos being used on his bass would eventually pose an issue, he's now removed them from his headstocks, giving the buy the ability to add his own should he please. I don't mind having a Fender logo or a limelight one, or even having it blank, it's a trivial matter when the playability, quality and tone of the bass is the most important things to consider and what basses are judged on.
 4.
Gotta laugh sometimes(or cry maybe in this case) Loads of threads regarding amps and tone etc, favourite live sounds etc and GAS for 'insert boutique brand of the month here' but a couple of people say they were impressed by the live sound of an Ashdown rig and suddenly the amp is actually irrelevent and its all the PA... Off to bang head into wall.
Don't hit your head too hard! Don't want you guys destroying your amp making genius! As it happens I've only owned 3 amps, 2 have been Ashdowns and one was a tiny Fender Rumble series, I've played Ampeg B15s, which are exquisite, the SVT series which was a bit underwhelming but the only amp I will NEVER sell is my CTM300. It's the most amazing head I've ever used and the tone is sublime, I can get everything I want from that head tonally and it doesn't freak live and studio engineers out by having no DI! Surprised that not all your artists use the CTM, I appreciate Sir Paul's back might break lugging it about but it's without doubt the best amp tonally I've ever used.
 5. I guess from a brand building point of view, having something recognisable such as Fender will get interest in the basses in the early days, as Limelight has grown, almost exponentially of late, it's not the best practice to keep the F decal, if anything it could harm Mark's future business growth, however at the same time, having a bass that looks pretty much to a T like an actual vintage Fender was part of the allure, however I'd rather have tone and playability over the 100% authentic look. Perhaps Mark should look to develop his Limelight scrawl further? I genuinely would be proud to have my bass wearing his own logo on the front. However the sharpie on the rear of the headstock is simplicity and quirkiness epitomised.
 6. Having player a 66 P Bass and a 62 P, but not having even seen the amount of money they wanted, let alone have that money to spend, Limelight's custom relic'd vintage feel and look is one I'm highly interested in, I'd love to own an actual 1962 Fender Precision Bass but there's no chance of me having the money to buy one, so my alternative is to have something made up by Limelight or other such people, I wouldn't care if it had Fender on the headstock or not, I just want that comfy warn in feel and tone without the outlay!
 7.
http://basschat.co.u...-jazz-1960-yob/ I'm practically camped out by the front door. Delivery day!!
I'm not a Jazz bass man at all, but my word does that look exquisite and dare I say, makes me want to play one of Mark's Jazzes! I'd be camped there too, TV moved with kettle and bottle of water to top it up with right next to me as well!
 8.
Mark initially said end of June but just as an approx date but due to a bit of time away and another build taking a bit longer than expected he asked if he could move the date back a little (after asking me if that was ok :-)) to 'early July'... I am in no rush as I've got two basses to cover gig easily and I'd rather he took his time and did it properly than rush to finish it. Not too long either way :-)
Must be itching to get yours! But props to Mark for good communication and wanting to do a job properly! I'm itching like mad to get mine ordered but alas finances look bleak for the foreseeable future
 9.
There's already a NBD thread with pics that Mark sent. I'll take my own pics and post them as well. But I'm ordering a Spitfire pickguard from the US so I might wait until that's arrived first. I'll definitely do a review with sound files, though. That would be against the law as you well know!
Nice! So what you gone for then Mr Discreet? Also Skej when's your P due? Can't be long now?!
 10.
If you vote for me in the Tort Police election you can expect the freedom to express the likes of this, unlike under the dictatorial discreet regime
Yes! Voted for But alas we are going OT!
 11.
I think finding the Funk Machine might be a tall order, and (dare I say) missing the point. Sure, it would be nice to have, in the same way that Hendrix's Woodstock Strat is cool to gawp at, but the whole point of Jamerson is his musicianship and composition prowess, not his gear. The Funk Machine was a bone stock P bass for the majority of his career, that didn't ever see a string change or the covers removed. Unscrew every neck from every ropey P bass in the back of every recording studio in the land. The instrument could have been lost in an extreme weather event, it might have been dumped in a river for being 'too hot', it might have been modded beyond recognition or left to languish in an attic. Jamerson didn't need to mod the bass to get his 'sound', and arguably a number of instruments available in the '60s would have got a very similar tone. You don't need a P bass to cop Jamerson's licks as flatwounds and a foam mute will get you there on most instruments, and it is the bass lines rather than the bass tone that keep people discussing the guy all these years later. Having said that, I admire the courage and conviction of anybody who says they will go out and find a lost item when the odds are stacked so completely against them. Somebody must know where the Funk Machine ended up, even if they only know of its whereabouts during the first weeks after it went missing.
I think what you say in the second paragraph is what they aim to do, just find out what happened and obviously if they can get it back then why shouldn't they?! Agreed about his tone, which is why the programme will be about him as a person, musician and everything. It looks to be a great idea and one I'd love to see actually happen!
 12. So browsing the inter web tonight and have come across a kickstarter project by this name. It's aimed at producing a documentary about Jamerson and his life while also hunting down THE FUNK MACHINE! Now I for one LOVE this idea! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1687370072/james-jamerson-and-the-legend-of-the-funk-machine Mods a sticky might be worthwhile here?
 13.
Im with you! Tort on this would look amazing... ;-)
Yeah, why not, let's tort this bad boy up!!
Correct (even if you are a clever dickie with your acutes or graves or whatever they are ).
The wonders of an iPhone aha!
 14.
Gross! That's obviously an abberation. No, it isn't. I'm afraid not. No! Sorry, Karl - you lack even the most basic Tort knowledge and wouldn't make the Tort Cadets, let alone Tort Police! OK, everybody move along - there's nothing to see here...
Time for the public to rise up against the oppressive tort police! Vivá la revólution!
 15.
It's all subjective and down to opinion of course, but technically LPB and tort is illegal. Why do you think Fender never offered this colour combination (except for special orders from people who had no taste)?
Tort Police have spoken however rules are there to be broken and broken they will be! Maybe I have no taste or maybe it's the start of a new fashion
 16.
LPB good... tort good... but not together. The LPB and rosewood 70s vibe demands a mint or parchment pickguard.
While that looks amazing, I still love the look of the Tort and LPB, it's different but in my opinion looks awesome! Especially with the chrome hardware!
 17.
Close... tort is a possibility. But so is LPB. I'm just not sure...
When I order my P based of a 62 spec, I'm thinking LPB with a tort guard both aged but not beat up! Obviously with the obligatory chrome wear and the thumb rest as well as a lovely RW board!
 18.
I've just bought one, after 3 years of harassing the owner!! Playing it today, it is definitely more responsive, and brighter toned than my other P's. I played another one late last year and that was also much brighter. I took pot readings on that one, which I will find, and i'll do the same on this, once I've finished noodling, and dribbling on it!!
I need to meet your mates! You always seem to have some of the best basses! Now it's pics or it didn't happen Enjoy!
 19.
Hi I'd like a more gritty tone. I think I would get this from a valve amp but I'm aware that they can be fragile- can someone tell me what to look for ? Do I need particular controls to drive the valve, do I need a particular kind of valve? Will a valve DI, or decent MFX unit do the job ? Do I just need mild overdrive from my zoom B2.1? fairly clueless on this topic. I've currently got a zoom b2.1, a precision, and a hartke hydrive 2 x 10 (which I find a bit "polite") - it has a sansamp patch but I dont know if this is realistic. thanks for your input
Ashdown CTM15. Best small valve amp out there, bar none. It's also gig-able with a good cab, which you have!
 20.
I've just spent a couple of hours playing it tonight. It sounds great but I noticed that the output was incredibly low compared to my P's, and I couldn't figure out why... until I put flats on it, and BOOM! My God, what a glorious noise. Fat growl! I dunno what kind of rounds it had on it, bit there can't be much metal in 'em. This bass is so well put together. If I can sweet-talk Mrs. WoT I can see myself keeping this AND getting a maple-neck P. It's and absolute monster, and it feels like an old friend already. I've re-made the video with an additional three clips with the flats on. Sorry it's repetitive. I have to bring attention to the slide around 4m12s. And that's with flats on it.
Cracking tone! Loved the flats on it but it sounded almost as good with the rounds! Out of curiousity what flats are they?
 21. The Jack plate has the serial number on which can be checked over at Rickresource.com To be honest Rics are hard to copy properly and Rickenbacker restrict sales of parts quite heavily, it's very unlikely to come across a fake with ric parts etc.
 22. Gotta WOT, it sounds amazing! Hoping the P's sound even better!
 23.
He's back on the 23rd and is despatching my YOB Jazz on the 24th. I hope.
Ah that's fair enough, bet you can't wait! My 21st can't come soon enough now! Providing the sound clips and reviews from people continue to be extremely positive!
 24.
Fortunately Mark doesn't accept credit card, otherwise I'd have that burgundy mist jazz bass in my mitts right now, and be paying it off! ;-)...When he's back from hols he's hopefully going to start work on one of these for me http://www.frettedam...der-jazz-bass-2 :-)
I do believe he is back from Holiday now, but I agree with that Burgundy mist jazz, I'd love to have it, even if I dislike Jazz's! Looking the shade of the LPB from that 66, it's utterly gorgeous!
 25.
Just do it! ;-)
Haha I'd max it out after having bought a new car last month, and for now that's not a good idea aha, think my parents are gonna buy it for me as a 21st birthday present along with the rest of the family. But certain I want a lake placid blue with tort guard and chrome hardware and a RW board all very lightly relic'd!
