Just asking because I might go down the same road soon
well its a video of the bassist from clatter talking bout her rig, which is insane! here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6HbKRkPnpA andy
 2. thanks man just found a wicked vid that explained it to time to start looking for a cool little amp. that i can rackmount above my pro 6 :-) andy
 3.
Two rigs. Or 3, the SVT 8x10 cab be run as two 4x10s. Search biamp in the wiki, although for that sorta purpose might not want a crossover, just don't worry about low end loss on our distortion.
yeh sadly i dnt have a 810 or that would be prob solved, but also how do you run them so that your signal is going to both amps? andy
 4. hi guys im a bit cross about losing bottom end when i kick in an overdrive or distotion, i still want the savage nasty distorted tone but i want a nice rumbling deep bass tone underneath it. how do you go about setting up this, i know there gonna be a bit of work but im really intrigued and wanna try it out? i use a svt pro-6 going thru a 610hlf cab and was thinking of adding a loud 210 for the effects and that? ive googled and cant find any sort of drawing that show how to do it? andy
 5.
Ampegs are weird and schematics are hard to find. Do somehting easier. And sned that SVT to me. I'll send you a much simpler 1969 Carlsbro with a schematic for it.
nah im gonna take time and find a knackered one and im thinking im gonna build a baby one first! and work up. anyone know of a place that does such things in the uk? andy
 6. ive never even done anything like this apart from in school but im thinking it be a good project for me to take my time over as long as its a bit cheaper than an already made svt? which im thinking it might not be but who cares really as it may take months! years even! also does anyone know of any smaller kits like say a 50w valve amp that can be made diy, as im gonna learn as i go, or any good books that explain amp building so i can get my head round it. andy
 7.

dam man is that a sunn too! i wanna know what two 610's sound like! andy
 8.
yea i think each 2x10 is isolated on the 8x10 the 6 and 4 are both ported
thats it! although the 4 does handle lows better than the 6, but for low mids the 6 rules! i would love to have an svt driving 2 of them! andy
 9.
true
actually yeh doesn't the 810 have a baffle system or something? all the cabs 810,610 and 410 all have dif sound. andy
 10.
4X10 HLF Classic
+1
 11.
Thanks guys very encouraging responses.Tait man that was an epic response thanks.I went for the 5 because my brother reckoned I could handle it because in his opinion I have a natural ability
i started on a 5 string and switched back to a 4er but to be honest if i needed it i'd go back to a 5 string in a moment! natural ability doesn't mean you needed to play a 5 string tho lol, stick with it tho man! 5 strings rule! as do 6 strings! andy
 12.
Just read that on the Ampeg site too. One of the heads with 2 of the cabs stacked vertically would look fantastic I'm thinking
indeed, also i keep having the urge that when i do get it ill put in on my 610 and see how it sounds lol! andy
 13.
Might have to find one to try. Mostly it'll be for practise and small gigs and also now to mic for recording (and could always mic for a bit of grind through the PA at bigger gigs). Do wish I'd tried a couple of the BA series combos they had around at the studio - very affordable.
ive read some where that geezer butler used the micro stack for recording? it you run it at 4ohms with to of the 210's i reckon it be awesome, im eventually gonna get one for practice as i want to practice with something that sound similar to my big rig sound. andy
 14.
I've just found out the little VST (Micro VR) is solid state
still sounds good though man! but is more of a practice amp/small gig amp i would love an svt if one came up in a trade for my pro-6 i'd be tempted! and 810's just rule! andy
 15. i went with a line 6 backtrack for ease at the moment, ill get something more fixed later, its not a bad piece of kit at all. heres a recording i did with it http://www.box.net/shared/csllh9061i
 16.
that would look ace with the tiny LG on top
hell yeh!
 17.
well you can do very basic recordings with the guitar/bass/drums, amps, mics (including drum mics, unless you have an electric kit) and a DAW. i'd recommend REAPER if you're planning on using your PC. of course, you can get a DAW like the BOSS BR-1600, which i own but use more as an effects pedal than a DAW, i like to be able to see the tracks in front of you, drag them and copy them easily, theres a lot you can do much easier with something like REAPER. thats all very basic recordings, but if you go on my band's website thats all we used (and i'm only a beginner, there will be many people on here that could use the same and get a much better sounding final song), along with the help of people on basschat on this thread and this thread. have a read through them (although the second thread is specifically about overdriven guitar, it has some tips in that will help with general recording too) and have a look at this thread too if you havent already, and just have a look through the recording section to see if there are any other useful looking threads. sound on sound is a good magazine to have a look at too if you want recording advice. but i'm a beginner too so i'm sure someone who knows what they're talking about will be along soon!
yeh im not looking fo r a full band recording just maybe a couple of layered bass tracks with diff effects on em. andy
 18. ive got a normal family pc, it dell and i cant tell you much more than that!? im looking to be able to start recording small parts, and demos of songs as ive started to write a lot more and its a pain using my hand held sony recorder as it just sounds awful! im not taking studio quality but just something that i can lay down a few tracks say like 4 parts in a recording? i know ill need some software, but what else do i need? andy
 19.
Right, ive got an ashdown LG1000 which i know is 2x500 at 4ohm. I run off one output into a markbass 2x10 (4ohm version) so this gives me 500w right? Now then, i 'm planning on using a second cab (ashdown mag15) which is rated at 8ohm. If i then connect the second output from the head into this 8ohm cab am i right in assuming that this will give me about 350w? so ishould in theory be getting around 800w total is that right? I really dont understand all this watt/ohms stuff!!!
yeh thats right man you get half the power on one outlet, also if you get the 8 ohm cab just for kicks, you could add another 8 ohm cab for a comically big rig lol
 20.
I've always enjoyed playing in three piece or at least bands with one guitarist bands more. Love the the space; everything seems (to me) more defined, better dynamics. Never understood the need for a rythmn guitarist clogging things up. Having said all that, one of the bands I'm in at the moment has twin guitars... Fuzz & Octaver can sometimes come in handy as far as effects go.
we have some dual guitar parts to, plus as i think ive sadi above the rhythum is sometimes not just replicating a riff, he sometimes place octave down or up, so this is why the oc-3 looks good, ill just place higher up. andy
 21.
Are you heavier than the Who, Led Zep, Cream or Hendrix?
well we play hard rock/ metal, its just the rhythm in the solos does drop, it just missing the cut the our old guitarist gave it. check out our myspace in my sig andy
 22.
More amps. That way you don't lose anything.
if we ever got signed or had the transport i'd love to have a rig like rob from tallica, using guitars amps to cover the distorted bass! that would be wicked! andy
 23.
Great news. You think something will be missing, but it won't. You'll find that a trio will be great once you get used to the lack of audio wallpaper and background racket. I play in trio's all the time and you just have to love the space and freedom that you get. Every note you play will become more important to the number, as will every space you leave. You can fill the spaces with all kinds of stuff, pedals, extra notes, whatever you want, but none of it is needed and most of the "stuff" will detract from what you are playing. Try it.
i have practice tomoz and the oc-3 not here yet so im gonna try it i think. it would only be on some songs that the wall of noise would be missed, and there the heavier numbers in our set andy
 24.
I think a change in your playing style would be more effective than adding pedals.
yeh ? i was thinking of playing some bits higher and using the octave to create a bit of depth? andy
 25. our rhythum/lead guitarist has just left due to work commitments, we aren't sure if we gonna look for a 4th member as our practices with just the 3 of us when the guitarist missed practice were good. the problem i had was that the drop in volume when theres a solo is huge! i use a distortion on one part of our songs but im looking into getting a big muff, i dnt truely understand the sansamp? as isn't it a preamp? i want something that will thincken out my sound to fill the space that the guitar left? i know it won't sound the same but something close, im in the process of getting the oc-3 boss super octave pedal im hoping that will work a bit, but what do some of you guys use? andy
