New Fender Signature Bass - Justin Meldal-Johnsen RW Mustang Bass
Byo replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
£500-650 is the going price for a CIJ Mustang Bass, I wish I could find a 70's one for £700! The prices on offset Fenders guitars are going up a lot lately. I'd like to put the JMJ sig up against my CIJ and see why it's worth that extra bit of cash. I do dig it though and probably get one in the future anyways. -
SKB Bass Safe / SKB44RW Assemble! Two basses in the bass safe
Byo replied to biro's topic in Accessories and Misc
For the most part, yes. If you get two gig bags, go for the thinnest so you have enough room. The basses won't move around as much because they'll be jam packed so no need for the extra padding and they'll be protected from sharp impacts in the same way by the shell. If you're going to put other stuff in the case, make sure you are careful about sharp corners/edges and make sure the gig bag zips don't get caught between the shell and the instrument or you'll end up with a zip shaped indentation in the finish...as I did.
Thanks for the info Kiwi! I highly appreciate it as there is no genuine info online about fitting 2 basses into the case. -
SKB Bass Safe / SKB44RW Assemble! Two basses in the bass safe
Byo replied to biro's topic in Accessories and Misc
I have used a Mk 1 bass safe with a Levy double gig bag and it depends on the overall thickness of your basses. Anything with a radiussed top won't work so forget Warwicks, Spectors and anything semi hollow. Standard Fender type instruments with flat tops and hardware will just about be OK. The thinner the gig bag, the better for fit. Normally I go with a guitar and a headless/semi hollow bass in a double gig bag. But on one occasion I wrapped a reliced guitar in microfibre towels (which can be secured with velcro cable ties) with a bass in a gig bag and it worked out really well.
Thanks for the info Kiwi! Did you find that the 2 instruments were safe enough that way? I am looking into fitting a Jazz Bass and a Mustang Bass into the SKB and flying with it... I guess I will only know for sure once I get it and try to fit both basses. I think that the MkII differs from the MKI in the locking system only IIRC. Cheers! -

Hi biro, I am looking at the same thing atm as I also read that somebody fitted 2 basses into the Bass Safe but all I read online is that only 1 fits. Have you managed to fit 2? Cheers, Byron -
Bought a pedal from Phil, great comms and super easy to deal with. Deal with confidence, he is a great guy!

To even out volume I would suggest a compressor or maybe a bit of EQ to adjust certain frequencies in either of the styles that you play. A pick takes away some low end from your tone but gives you more mids and attack in the high end spectrum, fingers normally tend to roll off highs and give you a rounder tone. At least that is the way I have always felt it. As others have mentioned before, check other pick choices and see what works out for you as it will make a massive difference in sound. I find that even a simple switch between Tortex 0.60 and Tortex 0.73 my tone characteristics alter drastically and affect on how I approach my playing and that is in the same model, the moment you move across series and manufactures things get very interesting.

Radial StageBug SB-2, super small passive DI that is affordable and will do what you need. I have one and it has saved my bandmates a few times now in live situations when we needed and extra DI for keys, synth or an acoustic guitar. The SB-1 is the active one that needs phantom power to operate and is a good alternative if you are using a passive bass only, without any pedals or a preamp.

It actually looks better than the Tech21 and the Valeton IMHO. Would be nice to see a Bass version with a twist as I am not interested in Tech21's bass offering.

Over the years I have played some TE amps as backline and have always had an amazing sound on stage. I like hitting the amps front end hard with a P-Bass mainly to get a rockier tone and with the TE's it is like heaven. I am also toying with the idea of going for a TE amp for stage use so let us know how it goes!
I'm not sure why I'd buy this over a £500 MIJ other than paying a £350 premium for the colour?!
+1, I have a CIJ Mustang and it is a lovely bass -

I'll stick to my CIJ Mustang bass for now... love the colour though! I thought they would have gone for a Jaguar bass with the P/J setup (but Troy Sanders has a Sig model) or maybe a J bass with the white Dimarzio's that he played in NIN, or even a long scale Mustang. -

It is always a pleasure doing business with Chris. This is the 3rd neck I have bought from him (he's my Official Parts Supplier now... ). Great guy, great comms and sells great gear, what else can you ask for?

Got a funky looking p-bass body from Tom as a test bench for some of my mods and ideas. Great to deal with, excellent comms and easy transaction. He supplied a tracking number and the body was well packed. Will certainly deal with Tom in the future if the opportunity arises.
My brother in law travelled to Norway for a gig recently by air. Both on his out flight and his return flight, his electric guitar got trashed by ground staff. Luckily he's handy with a soldering iron and managed to repair it before the gig. My niece, who has her own band, had the same experience when she travelled to Australia for a tour this May. It was in a professional flight case but somebody still managed to do serious damage to it. Luckily she had her dad with her (my brother in law) as her guitar tech and he managed to put it back together. I'd hate for my pride and joy to be damaged by neanderthal like, ground staff. Good luck......you'll probably need it.
Thank you for sharing your stories Gjones. That is the main fear... I don't know what I would do if one of my basses comes with a snapped neck of bashed body... especially just before a long recording session. On the other hand, Janek Gwizdala in one of his videos talks about not having any issues with flying around the World with his Fodera into a SKB Bass Safe, which essentially is a hard ABS shell that fits your gig bag into it (which does not look very safe to me...). I have started to contemplate the idea of just getting quality backline (2-3 basses) and avoiding any possible issues.
Hi Byo I have a Fusion double gig bag and it's excellent - there's a review here somewhere. I also got lucky on eBay and won a Scott Dixon built Fender case. It's the same basic construction as their normal cases but the inside is a bit more basic, with simple dividers rather than the locking sort they do now. I'm in York and if you wanted to borrow it, or check out the Fusion case, let me know! Cheers ped
Wow Ped, that looks amazing. Deffo is perfect for touring. Thanks for offering assistance! BChat love all around! I have until Feb next year to figure out a solution...
Might be worth keeping an eye on eBay for second hand flight cases for other things, big keyboards, cabs, stuff like that jumps to mind. Then you could foam them out within an inch of their lives. Will be expensive to get on the plane though I think.
Great idea, I have also seen some people use riffle cases (which seem to be pretty robust too).
Get a proper flight case. £500 is nothing to protect your musical children.
Haha! Absolutely!

Billy Sheehan has been running his bass in stereo for 30-odd years (or more) and he gets a massive tone. Not a big fan of RB as it all sounds a bit the same to me, but on the technical side I am big fan as it takes a lot of "cojones" to pull-off the playing, signal switching and singing all at once.
-
Really nice! Not a big fan of the headstock design but the body looks amazing with the contours and the added magnetic pup.

Chris was amazing. I posted on the Wanted section as I was looking for a Boss DD3 and he offered me one at a good price. Comms were great and clear. Deal with confidence! Will certainly deal with Chris again in the future if the occasion arises.

The PD7 is the first effect pedal I ever bought and I still have it. It was my main drive for a few years too and used to pair it with a Darkglass B3K (1st edition). Awesome sound and extremely underrated. My sound was setting to OD, gain to around 9-10 o'clock, a little Bass boost and a tiny cut on the highs and it was an awesome OD with a P-Bass. Nice to see that I am not alone!
