Thanks for all the advice peeps, much appreciated. My Bass Collection is now in for a set up and different strings so will stick with it when she's back
Having started learning the guitar about 5 months ago I thought I'd also start to learn the bass aswell. With the guitar I can manage a finger per fret and play scales etc, but on the bass it's massively difficult to get a finger per fret. Anything from the 6th or so aintoo bad but as for frets 1 to 5 is nigh on impossible to stretch the fingers.
Is this just a right of passage I've got to go through ?
What make are considered high quality strings ?
I'm after some new ones for my Bass Collection bass and would like to get quality ones . I'm not thinking flats so a gauge for rounds good for a beginner would be cool.
Thanks all
I know there's a groove library but that tends to be examples of people's playing. Is there a section where people can post what they are listening to at the mo or is the groove library the place for this ?
It would be great to get what everybody else is listening to

They are perfectly symbiotic and playing both allows you the perspective of a musician instead or a bass player or guitarist.

Very good point there !
Can anyone point me towards a source for structured online lessons for bass beginners ?
I know there are a multitude of online lessons covering most subjects but I have found I learn much better if I follow a structured path/course. Are there any out there ?
I'm asking from the point of view that can they both be learnt together from a beginners point of view or am I best learning one or the other to start with ?
As I'm new to the bass can kind sole explain how a bass amp differs to my standard Blackstart amp. What's a good make for a beginner bass amp bearing in mind I like 70's funk, jazz funk, Jamiraqou etc ?
Cheers
Hello everyone. Am new to all this and have only been learning guitar for about 2 months so am very much a beginner, and as for bass I've not even touched one yet !
I really love 70's funk and jazz funk and am always drawn to the bass line . I hear bass players go on about getting into the groove and I sure wanna get into this ilusive groove so any pointers or advice in helping me to break my bass cherry would be greatly appreciated.
