White Farida FJB-6 Jazz Bass With Upgrades EMG BTC Pre Amp SOLD
redstriper replied to bagsieblue's topic in Basses For Sale
I have one of these basses and it's a cracker, incredible quality, sound and feel for the price. I sold a Mex Fender and a Squier CV after getting mine. This review from our own Allthumbs says it all:
Just realised - this is the same bass isn't it? Did you buy it from Scott? -
And finally. . . . if anyone ever gets their hands on a 1980 Blazer. . . . . WHAT A BASS! £ For £. . . . . You make your own mind up, if you are ever lucky enough to play one. I just love Classic Ibanez Basses! Cheers.
So true

I have an excellent 1980 Ibanez Blazer that I have been told sounds like a Stingray. It's very aggressive with tons of punch and growl, but I prefer the smoother sound of a Jazz bass for my current band. I may be up for a trade.

1980 Blazer, quite rare and only made for one year. Great vintage bass with tons of punch and growl, but not really my scene these days.
Yes it is.
I have a letter from the customs office saying that it is not. VAT is payable on postage but not customs duty as I understand it and if the item value is less than £15.00 it will attract neither. Has anyone here ever paid customs duty or VAT on anything valued at less than £15.00?
-
I haven't read all this thread, so I'm sorry if this has already been said. The postage cost is not taken into account when charging customs duty, VAT etc. Any item valued at less than £15.00 GBP is exempt from duty whatever the postage cost. Anything above that value may or may not be charged duty - low value items are selected randomly. This information was including with the last parcel of GHS flatwound strings from the USA that I paid duty on. I have never paid duty on single packs.

I've got loads of recent Tacsi recordings, but I've already been done (very nicely too). If you want more I'll upload one of our psychedelic Welsh language tracks - just give me a shout.

Warning! Postage increases for small packets with Royal Snail
I've been truly ripped off already!
I recommend Hermes as someone else suggested. Collection from your home or drop off at collection point, tracked and insured for much less than Royal Mail. -
I would keep the Trace until you have bought the new rig and gigged it.. I missed the tone of my old Trace amp when I bought a Markbass LM11 because I was so used to the Trace tone. I chose the LM11 after trying (and buying) various amps, because it sounded closest to my old tone, but comparing them side by side, I preferred the Trace. However I persevered for the sake of my back and now I love the LM11 and don't miss the Trace (or the weight) at all. I now use the old Trace head as a PA amp and it's ideal - not bad for an amp bought new in 1984. If you love the sound of the Trace and don't mind the weight, don't change it.
There's a great venue in Chester, being Telford's Warehouse - I've played there regularly since the late 90's. The owner, Jez is a great guy and his brother Damon has a couple of venues in Winsford - about 30 mins away - De Bees and a pub (can't recall the name).
How do you get a gig in those places? I've emailed Telfords a few times and never had a reply.

Excellent idea Si, I would like to be involved but I have no spare time to take part - good luck to all entrants and keep up the good works.

I have a nearly new set of Rotos for sale if you are interested - heavy gauge but not high tension, they sound similar to GHS Precision flats to me.

Recording Buffs...How Did They Get This Sound?

What a relief........ -
There are various free mixcloud downloaders available on line, otherwise follow these instructions to download without additional software: http://technolux.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/download-mixcloud-mixes-as-mp3-m4a-aac.html The Soundcloud tracks can be downloaded individually from the button next to each track. Hope this helps. Steve.

Flats - what type of music do you use them for?
redstriper replied to 4 Strings's topic in Bass Guitars
I started on flats when all basses came with them as standard and I've never felt the need for rounds in any style of music and I don't find any great difference in tone from modern amps that changes my view. I know some players think the opposite and some like both, which is fine by me, I don't like bright sounding bass - for me bass means bass and I leave the bright stuff to someone else. I do try rounds occasionally and immediately remember why I don't like them - they're horrible -
Thanks boys, (diolch yn fawr as we say round here) - glad you dig our scene There's a better recording, and also our first album here: http://www.mixcloud.com/tacsiband/ We've got 2 more albums due out soon, one all Welsh and the other all English... watch this space!

I like Musicmasters, especially the early ones - they got very heavy like most Fenders in the late 70s and 80s. I played a very nice 1976 one recently and I'd be happy to own it (if I could afford it). The intonation wasn't perfect and difficult to get right due to the shared saddles, but it's close enough for jazz It could even be the same bass - the owner is from down your way.

To promote the album, Cave performed the album this month in sequence, knowing that it would be shared: http://bigozine2.com/roio/?p=1373 You can save the tracks by right clicking the player and selecting 'save as'. -
Thats not stupid. Unless you then went on to sell the Wal!!!
I never got on with the Wal and sold it soon afterwards at a loss to help buy a house.

A Plea, a Rant, a Call to Arms, whatever ..
redstriper replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I'm as guilty as anyone else for not appreciating other artists work on here. I do listen to anything that takes my fancy and I have enjoyed a couple of things very much, but a lot is not to my taste and I'm sure that's the same for many of us. Best 3 finds for me were Kit Richardson, Hour Of The Dog and Jake Brown's version of Superstition at a college session. -
Thanks people, look forward to sharing a stage with Hour Of The Dog sometime Here's some crappy home made videos to go with the album - no nudity unfortunately:
