If it's deep bass tone you want, I recommend the 3015LF driver instead of the 3015. I have 2 very light and small Flite cabs, one loaded with the 3015 and the other with a 3015LF. The 3015LF sounds deeper and a little quieter, a very smooth old school tone. The 3015 is more middy and modern sounding and the two cabs sound great together with my LM11.

Get on FB Jake - just about all local events are posted on there. Add me as a friend and I will link you to some venues and promoters.

Hi Jake, There's loads going on round here, but you've got to dig to find it. Caernarfon is not exactly the home of live music and Bangor is better with loads of bands and a decent live scene. Are you on facebook? If so, make friends with some local promoters and you will hear of plenty of gigs and jam nights - my band's page is http://facebook.com/tacsiband It will be quiet gig wise now until the Spring when things start to liven up again, with parties and festivals in the mountains and gigs at Hendre, Cobdens, Cell B etc. Oh and croeso y Cymru.

An excellent example of a fender Jazz bass with upgraded wiring to USA standard. Made in Mexico in 2010 and hardly used, complete with original Fender gig bag. There is some very minor buckle rash on the back and a very, very slight nibble through the laquer on the back of the headstock, otherwise it is perfect. SOLD
I'm thinking of the Maruszyczyk Elwood jbass as my next purchase.
Have you played one of these? I like the idea of them with the chambered body and choice of scale whilst keeping the Fender vibe, but I'd be wary of buying without trying - is there a UK stockist? Sorry to hi jack the thread - I'll get straight back to playing now
IMO that was relevant when the bass track you laid down was recorded through a tin can, copied onto a terrible music format and played through a crap hi-fi. These days, where everyone has access to some seriously high quality audio, and many like myself invest hundreds of pounds in precision engineered devices to listen to it through, if the bassist was playing on a rusty stringed piece of crap through a cardboard box amp, with all of the 'feel' in the world, it'd sound like crap and you'd laugh at the record, let alone ever buy it. Therefore I think that statement is completely irrelevant to today's world.
I couldn't disagree with you more if I tried The 60s recordings I love touch my soul more than anything 'these days'. Music is about so much more than audio quality and I don't find any significant improvements in the past 50 years anyway - in fact I can't listen to a lot of modern recordings.

"Bass players call from all over, wanting to know what type of equipment I use, what type of bass, what kind of strings-- things like that. I'll tell them, but that's not what's important; it's the feel. The strings don't make the sound, it's the feel. It's all in here, in the heart." - James Jamerson, 1979

I think playing harder might increase growl and possibly raising the pup. I'm no expert though cos I mostly prefer my sound growl free.
Steve, I'd love to believe me, but that damn long drive almost took the life out of me. I'd love to catch up again with you guys, for sure. Who knows perhaps you might visit London in the future?
Well you did come the long way round on the busiest bank holiday weekend of the year We'll certainly try and catch up next time we're darn sarf - might try and get to see Pino at Ronnie Scotts......
It was true in the 1950's.
It was impossible in the 1950s because they weren't invented until the 60s and they were scarce even in the early 70s. The original Fender basses were designed for flats but the only one in their range now supplied with them is the Pino signature Precision - all the vintage series should come with flats to be period correct.
-
Fran you must pop in again soon and bring the Fenders next time - that new Jazz is my dream bass and the perfect partner to the Precision

It's all true - John is a star. The wiring harness he supplied for my MIM Jazz bass has transformed it's tone. High quality components, super tidy work and next day delivery at a very reasonable price - what's not to like?
So Steve, do you want me to send you some foam mutes? You'll be surprised at the result specially when playing "reginald"
Yes please Fran, I have used foam before and it works a treat, but Rosy's getting sick of me tearing the furniture apart I'll PM you my address. BTW I'm going to get the old Jazz bass sorted as you suggested while using this new one for gigs. -

Just fitted the harness with the 2x 0.047 caps and 250k pots and I'm well pleased There is still plenty more top end than I need and the controls are much smoother than the originals. I tried both the Wizard 84 and the stock pups and decided to stick with the stock ones. They actually sound very similar, but the 84s are just a bit harder and more modern sounding. My thanks go out to KiOgon who put the harness together for me, it has improved both the feel and tone far more than the cost (£29.50 inc. next day delivery). -

Got the new harness with 2x 0.47 caps today, but not had time to fit it yet. I'll try it with the original pups and the 84 and report back. I might just buy that paper in oil 0.1 cap and try that just for fun too Thanks for the link BassHertz, it's amazing how these little things affect the tone so much - I would never have believed it if I hadn't heard it. -
One day maybe roundwounds will be hard to find in shops? jeff
Like it was when I started playing and all basses came with flats as standard. God I'm old.
Oh Steve! Harsh tut tut....
Sorry Fran - I'm sure you are never surly, I was just trying to give the guy a break, but your right you can't blame a place for the way some of it's people behave. We've even got some right miserable gits round here
He's gonna be a tad surly now and again because he lives and works in London which makes you miserable by default :-)
Good point.

Thanks again Dan:- I'll try the 84 now - only got a neck pup, but that's all I mostly use anyway. I ordered the harness with 2 0.047 caps so I can easily remove one if there's not enough treble.
