You can't remember if you gave someone £375 cash 10 months ago (wow) - that reminds me, you owe me £500 from last year I doubt the customer would ask for another cheque if you already gave him cash, because most people would remember doing that. You can cancel your original cheque through your bank, but there's not much to do about your memory.

Who do you contact to get a gig there? We've been trying to bust out of Wales for a while, but got no contacts over the border so any help is much appreciated. The music is original and people seem to like what we do, we're happy to do support slots but we don't do cover versions. You can check us out here. Thanks, Steve.
I got my son (at age 9) one of these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp...scale_ebass.htm 29" scale, and an unbelievably low price (cheaper than a Sue Ryder ). Yeah, it's not a Fodera, but it's perfectly ok and will keep him ticking over until he can manage 34".
I've got one of these that I bought here recently, very nice too and ideal as a starter for a child. It weighs just 5lbs 12ozs and is very easy to play with the black nylon rotosound tru bass strings that the previous owner fitted. It sounds good too and it's as new in the original box. You can have it for £50 including delivery - PM me if you're interested. Steve.

I've been playing the same jazz bass for over 30 years and only recently discovered the tonal differences available by adjusting the pick up volumes. I only ever use the neck pick up and keep the volume at about 70% with the tone off for reggae, blues, soul and jazz - I turn the tone up to about 50% for funk. I play over the neck for a deep roots sound and over the pick up for faster funky stuff. I never wander further back from the neck pick up - that's for a different type of player and the jazz bass is perfect for them too. It can go from deep Familyman dub to zingy Jaco jazz with just a change of settings and playing style. String choice also has a big effect on tone and I like old heavy gauge GHS flats for everything, whereas you really need rounds (and no frets) to do the Jaco thing. I hit the strings fairly hard for a clear punchy sound and softer for a more laid back jazzy feel. I don't (can't) do slap bass and I see the bridge pick up as a 'spare' just in case the front one fails. I don't like the tone of precisions, much as I'd like to - a good passive jazz bass is all I need. Another tip to get that deep dub reggae tone is to turn down all the treble and mids on your amp. And remember - who feels it knows it.
Hi all This might be common knowledge but I've just discovered how awsome my new jazz bass sounds with the following settings: Neck p/u @ 100%, bridge @ 0, and the tone @ 0. Absolutely brilliant for reggae. Really mellow. How do you set your tone and what are good settings for different genres of music?
Try turning the neck pup down to about 70% and the tone should be even deeper and smoother because the volume also affects the tone and there are more harmonic overtones at higher volumes.

I look forward to seeing and hearing the results - will you fit period correct flat wound strings too? -
Does it sound badly out of tune or are you using an electronic tuner and going on how it looks rather than the sound? How did they manage back in the day when there were only flats and no electric tuners - what would Jamerson have done? I play a 63 Jazz bass with heavy GHS flats and I had the same problem until I stopped using the tuner and accepted the situation.

It was Alex who recommended the Eminence 3015LF to me and I can vouch for it's excellence as a woofer, but cab size also affects bass response and volume.
-
I'd recommend one of these with a replacement driver - this one to be precise. It goes pretty low with the standard driver and the Eminence takes it even deeper. I have used an LM2 through this cab and my eq on the LM for reggae is as follows: LOW - flat MID LOW - full cut MID HIGH - full cut High - full cut VLE - 12 o'clock VLF - varies depending on venue but the higher the setting, the deeper the tone. I've never felt the need for outboard EQ. I DI into the PA at bigger gigs so the above set up is only for stage monitoring, but it's fine on it's own for smaller venues.

I have a Tascam MM-1 keyboard mini mixer for sale. It's 20 channels amd suitable for anything from vocals to guitars/synths/drum machines etc. There is one on ebay now here. I paid £400 about 10 years ago and used it in my home studio - it's an excellent bit of kit, all the inputs are jack, so no XLRs required. I want £60 including postage if you're interested. Steve.

I bought a bass from Geoff which arrived safe and sound thanks to his excellent packing. He's a top chap and highly recommended - deal in confidence.

That's my old bass and you've done a very nice job there - I missed this thread when it was first posted, so well done to you. Oh, that reminds me - I always forget to ask for feedback when I buy and sell on here, so how about it My feedback is here.
Judging by what most people say, it would seem that firewire would give me better results. ............using firewire on the AMD Thurion 64 x2 with 4GB Ram, the performance is not going to be great, especially as I need to record at least 8 tracks at once.
Why not - my 4 year old Toshiba laptop is not high spec with only 1GB Ram and it records 16 tracks at once easily.
-
I'm out of touch, but I thought you needed firewire to record more than 2 tracks at once. I use firewire on my laptop with an Alesis 16 channel multimix and it records 16 tracks at once with no problems. But there were problems with the mini firewire socket on the laptop and it would drop the connection occasionally. I installed a cheap PCI card with a full size firewire connector and it has since worked fine. The laptop is a 4 year old Toshiba Satellite A110 with 1gig of ram and the Alesis mixer is brilliant, but I don't know if they still make the firewire version. I use Cubase (bundled with the multimix) and record at 16 bits for very low latency and excellent quality. You can hear some recent recordings here.

It would be very interesting to get a number of Fender basses - say 6 jazz or precision basses in a range of prices from the cheapest to the most expensive and have them all set up with the same strings, action etc. Then let players test them through the same amp with the same settings in the same room - blindfold. Those players would then be asked to rate the basses in order of preference - I would love to see the results.
if the bass is anything like their amps it crap, BIG crap
If only you'd told us earlier - it would've saved an awful lot of trouble........... and as for their motorbikes - don't get me started !!!!!!!

I've never had an expensive bass, but I've played a few without being greatly impressed. There are a few people on here who have sold their high end basses and replaced them with Squiers or similar. I don't think you have to spend lots of money to get a good playable instrument that you can get to know, (and modify if necessary) that will last a lifetime. Maybe even one of these
No what I actually think is happening here, is a case of 'you don't agree with me then you're wrong'. I don't see in any of my posts that I have given the impression that if 'you don't agree with me then you're wrong'. (your quotations, I have not said or thought any such thing). People have given their opinions, and instead of offering yours (which may be different, and I would respect that) you're are actually doing nothing but arguing with them. I don't have an opinion about this instrument and I have simply advised open mindedness and not to believe that this bass is crap just because some people here who have never seen one say so. I'm sorry if you see that as arguing, but it is just my view which I'm as entitled to express as anyone else. It's incredibily disrespectful, and you're even jumping to conclusions and now making judgments about the characters of the people who have taken the time to offer advice to the OP, just because it doesn't fit in with the way you think. I have not meant to disrespect anyone and I offer my sincere apologies to anyone who feels that to be the case - I humbly submit that you may be confusing disagreement with disrespect. Again, if you have a different opinion, then by all means voice it, but just trying to belittle everyone else's perfectly valid advice to the OP isn't helping anyone. Thanks for the advice and I apologise again for offering an alternative and unhelpful view. Fortunately we have your much more balanced and useful insights to counteract the rubbish I spout. Have you tried this guitar? It's a bit hypocritical if not. No - have you?
