Hello everyone, Before I take my amp to a repairer I wanted to bounce my problem of you guys. I own a Trace Elliot AH300 GP12 Combo, awesome amp and I have had it for over 10 year with no issues at all. Now I have no sound whatsoever, but seems to be getting signal from the bass as the gain light is working when I play a note. I have changed the fuses but as soon as I hit a note with new fuses it goes poof again then no sound at all, I have replaced these twice and same thing both times so I am assuming it is more than a fuse issue. Would love to hear some advice or possible answers to my problem, I am hoping it could be a quick fix but I fear I may have done some serious damage, please help! Appreciate the feedback guys, cheers

Can I use an 8ohm and a 4 ohm cab at once?
Sounds like there is a problem somewhere - maybe with the amp itself if both cabs are "farting" at low volume. Could it be the bass? Does it have an active circuit and if so, are the batteries fresh?
A friend of mine just mentioned the same thing, I might try replacing the batteries next time Im in the jam room, I will also try another bass and see if I have the same problem. -

When I get back to the rehersal room I am going to try tuning to drop d and see if its the fact Im in C that is causing the problem, though I dont think it should matter that much, My M9 is basically brand new too so I really hope its not an amp issue, 75% of the time it sounds badass, its only on a certian few notes that it breaks down, for example just playing an open top string quite heavily it doesnt like it -

Yeah tried the Trace prior to buying the 1000w fender, it was breaking down too even at low volumes and I guess at 8ohms its only recieving 450w. I have tried dropping the lows right out and it stills farts and carries on -
At 2ohms (you'll be at 2.66) the M9 puts out 900 watts, so your cabs should ideally be rated to handle 600 watts (4 ohm) and 300 watts (8 ohm respectively). EDIT: Your reply to Liam makes my post redundant
So ideally it should be ok to run the above mentioned cabs together at 2ohms? Im just a bit hesitant to try it! -

Ok kool, I have a Fender Rumble 410 1000w 4ohm, plus a 300w Trace Elliot 1048. My M9 is 900w and using the Fender cab alone is still farting out the speakers, I am tuned to C so im wondering if its the tuning thats causing it to breakdown, it does it even at low volume:( -
Hey there, This may be a silly question but Im wondering if I have a 4ohm quad cab and a 8ohm quad cab and my Mesa M9 has two speaker outputs is it possible to use both cabs at once? The mesa m9 has a switch on the back that is switchable to 8/4ohm or 2ohm. I havent tried to run both cabs yet, just wanted to ask the question first so I dont damage anything? Appreciate the feedback. Cheers.

Well I have gone ahead and purchased the Fender Rumble 410, I feel at the price I couldnt go wrong and it seems to have better than average reviews. If it turns out that Im not a fan I will look into another option. Thanks to everyone for their comments and advice, I appreciate it! Cheers

Good points on both sides, I am pretty set on only having the one cab though. I lugged 2 cabs around for years and Im pretty well over it! My rack case, a single quad cab and my Guitar case is generally what I am aiming at, I play gigs quite often and rehears 2-3 times a week, that equates to a sh*t load of gear handling, Im getting to old to have the biggest stack of the gig too
I have a Hydrive rig with the 4 x 10 cab and LH1000 amp- really reaaly loud and clear - easily enough bass for anyone- a bit modern sounding- powerful tweeter ( I switch it off as seems to scoop the mids a bit too much. ) Used my LH1000 with an old Peavey 2 x 10 rated at 375W with no problems whatsoever- 4 ohm cab. LOUD enough for anyone. Cab worth about £30 and ancient.
After researching more on the Hydrive its only an 8 ohm cab, Im really chasing a 4 ohm cab to save on using two cabs but thanks for your thoughts

So I am reading pretty good reveiws on the Fender Rumble 410 1000w @ 4 ohms and retail under $500 bucks, anybody had any dealings with these cabs?
A Trace 410 is a very loud cab, IMO don't mess with it and save that money until you get enough to buy the Powerhouse 610. In the meantime listen to Mr Foxen's advise, there's no problem in running the amp with that cab, you just need to EQ it so that you don't damage your cab. Cut the 33Hz slider completely and maybe a bit on the 80Hz too, if you need bottom get it on the 180Hz, it'll give a tighter and controled bottom. Don't go too crazy on the Bass knob also, i had a Walkabout and it pumped serious bottom so i never had to go past 13o'clock on the bass knob and cutted almost everything below 50Hz on the parametric. If you set your EQ right you'll have more than enough power handling on your cab to be loud on every stage you can think of. A word of advice to the population, if you say you can't be loud enough with any Trace cab (one of the oldies) then you must really should think about seing an ear doctor...
Thanks for that advice ghost bass, will definatly try it out and let you know how it goes.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Hartke Hydrive 4 x 10? seems to be the resonably priced for me, but if need be i will have to save my $$ for a little longer to get a Eden or Ampeg, essentially I would like the Mesa 6 x 10 Powerhouse but that is way out of my budget at this point
Can't see your current cab is going to be much use.... it is way underpowered. That is not to say it isn't usable but it is only a stop-gap. Nothing in the cab that will suggest replacing the units is a good idea, either, IMO. To use anything near 900, you will be looking at two cabs, generally, anyway. I'd prefer something more modern..as opposed to modern sounding, but you could look an Eden or SWR 410 from their pro range... or Ampeg. They seem to be available for decent money...
So if I was to say add a 15" cab would that suffice? And if so what watt rating should it ideally be?

Thanks for the advice Mr F,
Do you play a five string? Humans ears don't work that low anyway.
Yes I play an ESP F205 tuned to c but rarely touch the top string ( low b that is..

Thanks Mr Foxen I will give that a try, Although I do already have that pulled down quite low, btw the lowest slider is 33Hz. So do you think If my amp is set up right my 300w cab should be able to handle it?

Hey guys, Ive recently purchased a Mesa Boogie M9 Carbine (900w), Im super impressed and got it at a killer price hence why I went for the M9 over the M6 plus it has the option of on board compression and 9 band eq. I am using a Trace Elliot old school 1048H Cab rated at 300w. The cab is obviously not built to handle 900w that the Mesa is putting out as it breaking down and farting even at low volumes. Im looking at staying with a quad cab for transporting purposes, I guess im after some opinions as to wheather I upgrade to 4 x 250w drivers, if so which ones would be recommened, as opposed to upgrading to a 1000w cab, and again what brand of cab would people recommend in that regard? Im looking at the Hartke hydrive 1000w quad cab, are these a reliable option? I have also had a few people tell me I dont really need a 1000w cab to handle to 900w, is this true? Im a tad confused as what I should do. Appreciate any feedback
