1. I read a lot of threads on here and there's a lot of chat about finding "your sound". I don't have one. Am I ok? I turn up at a gig, set everything in sight flat. I have a listen. If there are any odd resonances or other oddness in the room I try to dial it out then off to get a diet coke. That's it. I'm weird aren't I
2. Within certain boundaries gear is neither here nor there. It's a bass. They all sound the same to the punters. Your time is better spent playing the thing. As a comparison... my day job is in software development and I honestly couldn't care about computers. I get the minimum I need to get the job done and be usable and keep it until it breaks. It's not about the equipment. Buying and selling gear is an interesting hobby in itself but it's got almost nothing to do with playing.
3. It is an inescapable fact of musical performances that a significant percentage is looking the part. I don't, by the way
4. About 1:30 in Locked out of Heaven, when she goes 'Oooh'. Just sayin'
5. Thanks guys. Pretty sure I'm there now. I didn't even know there was a Sex Pistols version. Off to YouTube....
6. Some farewell tour.... that's going to be a weird one. Nevertheless, hoping I can get tickets.
7. I know you'll be nervous - it's no use saying relax. However, if you're still up tight after the second song then it's probably not the band for you. Do not be afraid to walk away - it's not a job interview. The other thing I would have said, is to make sure you really have the songs down but it's probably too late for that. If they've asked you to learn some stuff and you haven't then you're off to a very bad start (I've seen this more often than not in an audition situation - it's amazing)
8. Ahhh.... as you were. This is because I *was* listening to one of the live versions. It's a lot more twiddly (for want of a better word) that the original. The original is within my limited powers (I think). Cheers
9. Before I go mad, has anybody got a decent transcription of this old Who classic. I get the basics but there's some bits and bobs in there I really can't hear. Any donations gladly accepted
10.
Unfortunatley, there is also a glut of numpties looking to form bands in the Glasgow area!!
That's me
11. We've been auditioning a new drummer and it's all a bit weird. They could all play well enough, but I suppose it came down to things like percieved committment, interest in the type of music we play, actually having some transport to get to gigs (!), answering texts in less than two days. Stuff like that
12. You either like the look of the Bongo or you don't, I'm not going there, but it's a very good instrument. It's actually a really ergonomic design, it's lighter than the Stingray and it's got an even punchier output - especially on the thin strings which can be a bit of a weak spot on the 'Ray.
13. Met up behind a martial arts club (as you do) to seal the deal for my two Ashdown cabs. All as arranged, cash paid. Thoroughly nice bloke. Well recommended!
14. The boring old Stingray. Stylishly functional
15. I sympathise, but the other way. I've never been able to get the hang of a pick. No matter what I do, after a few notes it just slips out from between my fingers onto the floor. Mystery!
16.
Do you get the opportunity to leave feedback if the transaction isn't completed?
As a seller you can't leave negative feedback. It's been like that for a while now.
17. ok then - second chance offers... http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/second_chance_offer.html NOT outside of eBay.
18. It's all here..... http://pages.ebay.co...-practices.html closely followed by.... http://spd.ebay.co.uk/RBASellerHub
19. Just in case nobody has said it and to reinforce it if they have.... Single cut basses - all of them. What were they all thinking???
20.
Not now Kato...... http://www.facebook.com/TheVibeBand That's 5 minutes of my life I'll never have back....
I particularly enjoyed the photograph of our man and Liam Gallagher. It doesn't even need me to attempt a smart-arsed comment...
21. Well (not arguing).... 1. I didn't play back in those days (even though, yes, I'm old enough) 2. It's not quite the same as do you knowingly download something for free rather than press the "buy it now" button. FWIW... I'll argue more than anybody that the crap being given to people for downloading a couple of songs is disproportionate but songs don't cost much online anymore and at least some of it hopefully finds its way back to the artist.
22. Don't forget that if you go to a gig (or listen to a recording) there's thousands of pounds worth of digital trickery and a sound engineer between you and the real musicians. I'm not sure where you draw the line.
23. If you want to get hold of some music to learn for a covers band that, presumably, charges money then I don't see there's much of a question here. It's less than a quid a song!
24. One spot of research later, I give you..... http://vibedeck.com/thevibe
