1. Try digging through... http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/connectors/general-purpose/headers-pcb-receptacles/ That all looks a bit ancient history but you might find something you can use.
2. You can tell by the origin of everybody above and by the fact that I have never heard of them that this must be a Laaaandaaaaan band. Yes?
3. It's cheaper, quicker and more reliable. I'm not even sure pots with a connector on them exist - although someone will be along in a minute to prove me wrong, I'm sure
4. It rather depends who your audience is. Are they likely to see the funny side or are you likely to get boo'd off the stage? I think it's a great song but it might not be the time or the place...
5. The bass player is there to make the guitarist sound good and the drummer is there to make the bass player sound good. The drummer has to provide a rock solid foundation that you can rely on. That's both keeping time and a certain undefinable air of confidence. Something like that!
6. I've found GuitarGuitar (certainly in Glasgow) to provide excellent customer service, so you should be all right. I have a little bit of sympathy - by playing the basses you are effectively making them used so you do have to act appropriately (don't come in with your best studded belt on). However, trying out musical instruments is about the only thing that differentiates a shop from just taking a punt on the internet. This is a recurring discussion of course.
7. I've never played one but I've seen some very positive reports about the Vintage basses. I can't help thinking that a used Japanese Fender might be the answer if you can find one.
8. Has someone told Dave Hall Amps then? Chances are it's spoofed mail, but might be worth them doing some damage limitation.
9. It must be an instrument you can still play wearing just a Ben Sherman shirt in the depths of Winter
10. Their last number one... Ballad of John and Yoko. The one everybody forgets until they hear it; always goes down well. "Help" is a good one too.
11. Any excuse....
12. It could Cheap enough for me to risk buying something with an undiagnosed fault, fix it, sell it and make enough for a curry out of it!! If you're interested PM me and we'll sort something out.
13. It might not sound quite right (if e.g. the power stage has any bass-friendly filtering) but you won't break anything.
14. I have this problem with the Rolling Stones. Everybody in (one of) my band thinks they're the best thing since sliced bread but try as I might I don't get it. I've never listened to Sabbath or Led Zep. I couldn't name a Sabbath song and I only know the obvious ones from Led Zep. I can take them or leave them quite honestly.
15.
Does it not all just boil down to taste? Eventually you discover music that moves you (or makes you move) and it becomes important to you. I say eventually, because when you're young that's only part of it - there's also fashion, wanting to be in a 'gang' etc. Its no less important (to the individual) for being about more than just the music, but most robust battles fought out in the playgrounds, letters pages of the NMA, forums etc are, lets face it, pretty unsophisticated ("Blur are s**t, Prince is God" and so on ad nauseum). I've reached a point where I can listen to any sort of music, work out whether I like it or not all by myself, and genuinely don't care or even think about whether it is "credible" or "authentic", "genuine" or "manufactured".
I was planning on shutting up but.... ^^ this. Same here.
16.
For me part of whether an artist is "authentic" or not is whether they have something to say, be it lyrically or musically. Led Zep took blues and gave it a bit of a twist so have more to say than Jedwood who seem to perform whatever they're given and enjoy the ride. (It's possible that Jedwood do indeed have something to say but no one has ever been able to listen to them speak for more than 2 minutes before being driven mad). Less authentic are people only interested in fame, performing other peoples material with the help of Autotune, or more modern rap that's about bling and power.
Are you suggesting that Led Zep were less interested in fame than Jedward? I don't have any idea but I don't think you can assume that. I can't believe that people pay money for Jedward's output but presumably they do and it must be relevant to them... even if they are ten years old. Can you be authentic to a ten year old... don't see why not.
17. I think it's interesting and something I hadn't really thought about before. I have been an enthusiastic amateur musicians of one sort or another for about 40 years and an even more enthusiastic listener for even longer. I've done some soul-searching and can honestly say that I've never given a monkeys about the "authenticity" of the artist. I'm rather intrigued as to what it is about the consumer of the music (for want of a better term) that makes this important. Do you guys care or is this really just an academic point?
18.
Virtual has a very specific meaning within IT, and has had for four decades. Authenticity is a bit different.
Don't lecture me about IT terminology - I am a highly authentic IT'ist don't you know
19. Why can performing simply not be about entertaining people? That is the result. How you get there doesn't really matter. Doesn't matter if you are David Jones or Ziggy Stardust. If the latter is more entertaining then who cares?
20. So Authenticity == Marketing
21.
What a terribly sad indictment of the artist. I'm so glad I'm not like that.
I never intended that to be a bad thing. What's wrong with music being your job? It could be worse, you could be sat in front of a computer all day like me
22. I use Transcribe! - http://www.seventhstring.com/ - but there are several. Sometimes just knocking down the speed a little can make all the difference.
23. Of course, I am old and cynical so I listen to music for its own sake. I worked out a long time ago that musicians are on the whole just dudes doing a job. However, they tell me that those young people really care about stuff like this. They need to *identify* with their musical heroes. Well, possibly...
