Errrrrm, I think you might have missed the joke here. Perhaps this will help explain:
Nope..... you're going to have to explain to me slowly

*If* that's all that's wrong. If they've taken half the PCB with them then it's a 50 quid door stop. Sounds like it's worth a bit of a gamble though.

They're very good at what they do, but...... and here's the problem for me..... ask ten random people in the street who Mr. Big are and I bet you not one will ever have heard of them. I hadn't until recently and I still couldn't name a single or album by them. A muso's band - for better or worse.

Finally joining the 'covers/function' scene
thepurpleblob replied to Musicman20's topic in General Discussion
Bitter experience of lots of years in covers bands... * Don't be humpty if only two people turn up or nobody dances. Give the same performance you would if there's where 200 people going mad. * Agree with the venue how much and how long and stick to it. * Don't drink too much * Get in the frame of mind for learning songs quick. Probably only a small percentage of songs "we might do" make it to gigs. Learn to get the basics down in minutes. Tart it up later if it gets into the set. * Know when you can just busk it and know when it has to be exactly right. * Mustang Sally is harder to play well than you might think -
Is that the guy who was nicknamed "Moose"? if so ....Amen to that!! (eerr...I mean +1)
Ahhh.... I'm talking cobblers and/or trying to post before I've had enough coffee. I meant "Nelson" (real name Peter Nice I think, although it's a bit mysterious) who replaced Moose Harris. Moose played on the "classic" early albums and also deserves a mention.

I've mentioned this guy before, John Nelson from the otherwise deeply unfashionable New Model Army (go and have a listen, really).

A couple of things. Just remember that asking a shop to misrepresent the deliver (undervalue, mark as gift/repair etc) is asking them to commit fraud which at best is a bit cheeky. Shipping charges vary a lot - you should be absolutely certain that your shipping company has revealed *all* the charges to you. I got caught some years ago, "but we quoted you correctly for shipping, sir. The customs handling, storage, sorting, paperwork and ten lots of VAT are not part of the shipping". You still need to pay 'em though!!

The musical instrument retail sector is clearly a bit weird in that almost *everything* is technically ex-demo. Guitars are made out of bit of tree and there's an assumption that they are all slightly different and you want to try *the* one you might buy. I can't think of any other type of shop like that - even expensive things like new cars. In this case "ex demo" is really just meaningless marketing blurb for this week's special offer or whatever. Who cares? A discount is a discount

Bands who don't bring any backline...
thepurpleblob replied to StevieC's topic in General Discussion
I was in the Chinese takeaway the other night across the road from a local "live bands" venue (the sort of place that puts on half a dozen bands a night) and a bunch of young lads came in with their guitars. They didn't even have cases or gig-bags. I suppose you have to start somewhere!! -
I've had one for quite some years and it's always been my fall-back bass. You simply aren't going to go wrong buying a 'Ray. You've possibly just missed the bottom of the trough with prices - I saw a couple on here for £650 at one point but it's still a good saving over new. A good colour would be a wise investment. Extras like additional pickups (HH and HS), matching headstocks and piezo are rare used and command a suitable premium. The sound is quite distinctive but (like the Precision and the Jazz) sounds like a bass ought to sound and is almost universally usable. The only thing I would say (and would think about if buying today) is see if you can have a try of a G&L. This was Leo Fender's last go at making a bass and is rather like a StingRay on steroids.

Musicman Sabre 79 project
thepurpleblob replied to bassvid75's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Just to be perfectly clear, by "project" you actually mean "body" (plus bridge, control plate and some other bits of hardware). I've no idea what this is worth - this sort of stuff clearly can go for mental money - I'm not sure it actually amounts to a bass though, does it? Could someone bang a standard MusicMan neck on this, or does the Sabre require something special? -
Yeah, she's a bit special... I wouldn't be able to put any money towards the deal though so it's not for me.. I do really like these overwaters though... Just slightly out of my price range right now! Good luck with any future deals
Cheers... I'll keep it in mind if some other things fall through but I suspect the Ray'll be gone within the hour
Possible trade... My Stingray 5.
That *is* one the nicest Stingray 5s I've seen. TBH my preference would be for an HH or HS Stingray - I think I'd need a bit of cash / other stuff to sweeten the deal for a "standard" one. However, PM me your best offer (as they say on Bargain Hunt) if you are serious and I'll have a proper think.

Have you had it to bits? Is there something under the neck joint? Even if it was a 1965 Fender, I think you are going to struggle to worsen the value given the current choco-brown paint job. Get it stripped and paint it pink or something
