1.
Hi all i have this bass for sale. It is a Yamaha BB605 5 String Bass in a beautiful Wine Burst color. Details below. Pictures will be uploaded when i get home from work in about 2 hours, so keep ya eyes open. Acclaimed NE-1 semi parametric EQ standard two way EQ aswell Nathen East body shape gold hardware nice chunky bridge Looking for a firm £250 pounds. Would prefer to hand deliver or you can pick up. I live in the West Midlands area. Thanks d
I really don't want to be that guy... but the BB605 does *not* have the NE-1 eq. (not what you got in the little silver box or the BB-NE bass costing several times as much anyway). This is a popular myth for some reason, put about by Yamaha themselves. It *is* active but it's a very good 3 band eq with the addition of a mid boost switch. They are actually very nice basses and to be recommended. Needs a photo mind you
 2.
+1 lots of stingrays going for only a bit above that sort of price.
+2 If you like SUBs then 600 quid and some haggling will get you a "real" StingRay (used) I strongly suspect (or pretty damn close). That's a proper bargain There's loads of other quality gear going in the for-sale section for around that sort of cash. It's just knowing what you want. I don't suppose you would be disappointed with any of the basses you mention.
 3. Mmmm.... it's under 200 quid though is it not. The "real thing" is "under 2 grand". A mate of mine has a Behringer rig and, I have to be honest, I've played through it at multi-band charity gigs a couple of times and I didn't have anything too much to complain about. On the other hand I have had some bad experiences - e.g., the rack mount tuner that doesn't hear bass frequencies at all
 4. Throw away your rig. Use the Sansamp and invest in some in-ear monitors ?? I depp'd (sp?) a couple of time with a band that did just that. No backline. It was a bit weird but strangely liberating. They did have a 7.5KW PA though - which was frightening in a pub
 5.
I am not going to say too much on this because I get irritated by anyone that advocates ignorance in favour of knowledge - it just doesn't compute.
I think that's the most sensible thing anybody has said so far. To not have the time, the inclination, the interest to learn some theory are all reasonable excuses but to advocate that having knowledge is a bad thing is nuts.
 6.
"The comedian, real name Royston Vasey, is scheduled to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court in Middlesbrough on December 16" My mind has just been blown.
Yep - that's where the League of Gentlemen got their town name from. You couldn't make it up
 7. I completely wrecked my shoulder a few years back and it wasn't funny. I sympathise. Luckily, when I went to see the doctor about it, the first thing she said was "Hey, you're the bass player out of.....", so we were off to a good start. It took me a *long* time and lots of physio (which I paid for myself) to get back to something like useful. In fact it still could be better to be honest. I think it just takes time. BUT... pain is your body telling you to stop doing something!!
 8.
I was in a car park in Louth a guy in a posh car came over a gave me his car park ticket 'cos it still had an hour left on it. I politely accepted the ticket and thought to myself, I recognise this bloke from somewhere. As he drove off I read the number plate of his car, which was something like RCB1. It was Roy Chubby Brown!
You're lucky... he's currently up on charges for beating somebody up in a car park... allegedly.
 9. Monday morning you're-probably-back-at-work-but-I'm-not-ha-ha bump! Any interest at all for trades?? As I say, almost anything considered.
 10.
I am really looking forward to the new Poirot this evening! I'm just about to serve roast beef, horseradish cream and Yorkshires. Then wine and a smoke and settle in the sofa with my queen to watch Poirot
Did you mean to type that into Facebook but did it here by mistake?? ;-)
 11.
My new made up 'stage' look... IF I had a band... *sob* I'll stop photo who**ng now
Cherry-Burst lipstick!!!
 12.
Hi Went for a job interview at the Queens hotel Dundee when I was 15 (now 55) and met Fleetwood Mac who were sitting about in the room I was waiting in. They gave me a fair bit of teasing about being nervous about the job but seemed a fine bunch. Regards Jim
So, did you or Fleetwood Mac get the job?
 13. I have not got a clue about singing. I've never done it, I don't know how, I don't know where to start. This is something of a regret. I actually intend to take some lessons in the very near future - I think it will do me lots of good.
 14.
I played bass in Bloc Party, what a bunch of bell ends.
Mmm... I think you may have mentioned your dislike of them before... once or twice.... My wife thinks they're great. I dunno why I married her!!!!
 15. I was at a funeral last year and J.K.Rowling was one of the other mourners. Yes - I have friends who live in Morningside. I'm sorry :-(
 16.
and as a aside...joss stone vs. dusty ? i find it hard to see why anyone rate joss stone over dusty's version, but there you go.
It's not a race They're both great but Joss really does nail it.
 17.
Sorry, don't mean to hijack, but that Joss Stone version is superb!!!
Hijack away - I was like, "wow!". I really need to see that girl live. AND she looks amazing... how irritating is that!!
 18.
Which version? Aretha Franklin or Dusty Springfield? The arrangements are slightly different. TBH it's not a toughie - you should be able to blag through it after a few goes (my ear is not brilliant & my reading is non-existant!) Pete.
I've only heard Dusty Springfield's version (and Joss Stone which is even better). You're quite right of course - I'm sure root-fifth-octave will save the day (again!) It's one of those days. I got stuffed with bloody "Black Velvet" as well, for a series of "what the hell was that chord" moments when I was expecting once-through-and-I've-got-it
 19. So... I said, "yeh, I'll learn that for Tuesday". Without listening to it. Yes, nobody told me :-( Any assistance much appreciated. The actual dots would help the most. My reading ability is slightly better than my ear.....
 20. There's no escape-a-bump!
 21. What sort of value is in this? I really haven't got any idea what would be a comparable trade.
 22.
I'm quite surprised by some of the snobbery on this thread,
It's probably all my fault. I did rather couch the question that way although - honest guv - I didn't mean it like that. What the hell do I know about bass playing - I'm sat in my spare room reading Basschat while they're out traveling the world doing there thing (capo or not).
 23.
Just remember it's rock n roll so there are no rules! I saw a great picture of Paul McCartney in Abbey Road studios with a capo on his Hofner bass - I don't play as well as Paul so can't stand in judgement! I wouldn't use one on a bass personally because I know the neck well enough now but I figure if good players wish to then there is no harm in it.
Yeh - I guess if I had just learned something complicated with lots of open strings and then it got transposed I wouldn't be so proud not to say "pass me the capo". Preferable to looking like an idiot and mess it up.
 24.
I know that, but that's just the way my brain retains the songs.
I've actually heard it said.... and I think it's good advice... that when learning things like scales, intervals and arpeggios, always visualize them in terms of patterns on the instrument.
 25.
ever considered the viewpoint that knowing theory may well cloud your judgement, cause you to overthink things and base your lines on what your told sounds right, rather than what your ears thinks sounds right?
That's just silly. The first thing you learn (well maybe the second or third) is that many aspects of music are either very difficult to explain without recourse to extremely nasty theory or *just are*. What sounds good must always be the ruling factor no matter what depth of theoretical knowledge.
