I think this business of the buyer paying for return carriage is unreasonable. I have bought an item of e bay that is not as described, doesnt work, and is uneconomic to repair. Im happy to return it to the seller but why should I be out of pocket for an item i bought in good faith as in good working order?
You shouldn't but the world doesn't go around like that. You are mostly, now, in the business of minimising your losses. It's like car insurance. You still don't want to have an accident as you don't get paid for all the grief, time and lost value now your car is damaged-repaired.
This was one of my reasons for buying in the first place. However all the feedback is for smaller items like books and DVDs and suddenly in the last week they seem to be the bass specialist (6 instruments sold or for sale). It's a fair amount of 100%'s so I readily accept this as genuine BUT the fact remains that I've been sent a fake (knowingly or otherwise) and my £25 for next day specialist Royal Mail delivery got me a Royal Mail 48hr stamped box. In terms of why we've gone from an honest seller dealing in small items a year ago to what I have now, I can only speculate. I don't want this current situation and nor did I invite it.
I actually meant, why have *you* not added negative feedback which might warn others?
Hi. Would you be interested in a swap on the Yamaha, have a 1979 Aria RSB800 or a 1980 Ibanez Roadster, both vintage 80's passive basses for trade, Cheers
Thanks for the interest but no thanks. I am really trying to downsize. I would really only consider exchanging both for another interesting bass. I'm not really GAS'ing for anything at the moment - but never say never
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/06/eb...s_neg_feedback/
That article as about stopping negative feedback for buyers. Again I might be missing the point, but this would be negative feedback for a *seller* which is allowed, surely?
At present EBay haven't withdrawn the seller. Anyone smell a rat with this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Precision-Bas...%3A1%7C294%3A25 Did I hear someone say "Squier"? 4th bass sold in recent weeks having never traded in them before!
So, unless I am missing something, why no negative feedback?
Has anyone used Mono Straps? http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...no_STRAPPS.html
Oooh - they look really proper

I suppose I'd better fly the flag for Overwater. 24 frets and lots of versatility. They always seem to have some to sell off the shelf as it where. You should be able to buy or negotiate under 2 grand. They do turn up in shops and you can always drag yourself over to Carlisle.
Who would have thought it. The G&L has to be one of the most underrated basses on the market. They are not just Great they are AWESOME. You can get P Bass, Jazz and Stingray on Acid from it and for a ridiculously low price. One Bass, all eventualities. You don't need to swap Basses mid-set. I have exactly the same one in Blueburst/Maple and it ain't going anywhere. I'd keep the G&L and ditch the Yam Good luck with selling whichever one you decide.
The TRB was actually my first bass so I am a bit emotionally attached. If nothing comes along I will keep it but I now have an Overwater Perception which is a different matter altogether. The Overwater needs to earn its keep

Buuurmp... Had a surprising amount of interest in the Yamaha but bugger all for the G&L. Of course, it's really the G&L I want to move on. Nobody interested at all?? These are great basses. I'm just looking at creating some space to stop the wife growling at me. So, literally, anything interesting.... (light) combo/cab/heads.... effects, keyboardy things. Try me

Thanks for all the suggestions. I now have a list to go and taunt the rest of the band with.
Marcus, Victor and... Someoneelse presumably.
Ahhh.... Wikipedia helped me out. Hadn't heard about this. One bass player in a band is usually more than enough, surely? -

Errr.... and SMV is who exactly? -
Tim Renwick! Floyd schmoyd, he played with Sutherland Brothers and Quiver! Serious esoteric class!!
Wikipedia says.... In 1984, Renwick toured with Roger Waters during his The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking tour. In 1987, David Gilmour invited Renwick to tour with Pink Floyd as a session musician, and recordings from the August 1988 shows were released in the double live album Delicate Sound of Thunder. This makes Renwick, along with Michael Kamen, Patrick Leonard and Jon Carin, one of the few musicians who performed with both Waters and the band after their split. TBH... I'd never heard of the dude.
If you're happy with the Mesa then gigging with it on average once a month shouldn't be too much of a bind. Just get a lightweight head or combo for rehearsing - I use a digital Yamaha BBT-500H apparently made of helium- fits in a small B&Q alu toolbox - thru a no-name 15" PA cab permanently left at the reheasal room, or a 2x10 if rehearsing elsewhere. Or just DI thru the PA at reheasals?
Some of us poor people only have a poxy vocal PA. Therefore requiring a drummer defeating bass rig to compete. I'd be carrying a roland cube or similar if we had a PA!!
Blob dude. We had the same problem as our drummer can`t keep time to save his life. Get the drums to start first and then when he has got himself sorted bring in the bass and guitar. Viola!! It goes doon a treat. Better still, Use somebody, the drumming doesn`t go in time with anything else so nobody noticws you are all over the place. Of course, the drummer might not be the problem. Jez
Nah - it's the bass player. He's bloody useless.
I was fascinated by the "getting old" comment as there seems to be various cut off points on what old is on this forum. I'm late 30s too and I've read stuff where you have to be 40+ to qualify as old. I feel young but I feel old. We're in no mans land! There are others who write you off at 25. Age is only really a state of mind after all. There were always the middle aged teenagers at school and then the old fools who never learn (of which I suspect I may be turning into!) I'm all up for compromise with gear. I remember runnning up 4 flights of stairs with my giant Peavey combo back in the 90s. Sod that now! I'd rather take it a bit easier & I don't care about rock n roll credibility (not that a Peavey combo necessarily embodies that!). Amps are getting better and you can approximate a good tone on a much healthier budget these days
Old for a bloke is when you become completely invisible to teenage girls!
My gig box is one of those tool-box-on-wheels things from Halfords/B&Q/etc.
Genius!

45 years old... Ashdown ABM gear. Otherwise, I feel your pain. Literally probably. If someone comes up with a great sounding, small, loud rig that isn't stupid expensive I'm having one!!
-
Tell you what... I'll come and see you when you play Glasgow in October. I'll be on of the 50 people there :-) Hopefully more!! Can I make a couple of comments about your web site. Your "tour dates" drop menu is really confusing. It looks like it only has two options - reviews and something about Glastonbury 2000 (nearly a decade ago by the way!!). I didn't realise you actually had to click the "Tour dates" label. It's weird. People won't come if they can't find your gig listing. Also, sites that play music without asking you deserve a right good kicking.... it's rude I was listening to Bat for Lashes
-
I don't see it. You're booked to do the gig. It wasn't your idea. If only one person turns up - doesn't matter. You have to play like it was full for that one guy. Those 50 people you piss of by cancelling will tell their friends

What we seem to have established today is that every covers band in the UK plays Sex on Fire
My usual rig is a Hartke 3500 too, but with Ashdown 1x15 and 2x10. Guess we're both set for the gallows.
That's because Ashdown stuff sounds too muddy and Hartke's aluminium cones sound too tinny so they cancel each other out
Try 'Moving To New York' by The Wombats, if it's a young enough crowd they'll know it and it's fun to play. I learned it for an audition and hadn't heard it before but it grew on me.
Yes - we play that already. I hadn't heard it before another band member suggested it and it goes down really well. Makes my fretting hard very sore at the crazy speed we play it however
-
Yeh - I've been there. A couple of - what you thought where - constructive comments and the "band leader" takes a big huff. Remember, he's got a crap job with a bullying boss, his parents wished he'd been a girl, his girlfriend treats him like crap and the dog sh*ts in his shoes. Having a go at you is the only little bit of power he (thinks) he has and even that didn't work.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Kings of Leon songs always go down well. Singles from the latest album. Although they are very simple so you may not go for them.
We can't play them. We had a go at Sex on Fire and it was a disaster. Then it got worse every time we played it. When you can't even get the introduction right you know you're in big trouble.
