2.
I thought Hipsway were great! Did they not evolve into what is now Texas?? BB
They where mates of my current band members or something. So where "The Exploited" of which there is a good story... when they appeared on TOTPs they got nabbed as they where all on the doll at the time
 3.
Anyone know what happened to that Jaco fella?
He's.......... oh, nevermind.
 4. Well thanks to the power of t'internet / myspace and simply asking Mark what it was.... Hutchins Chandler.... new one on me!
 5.
Just took some pictures at a recent practice with my reaquired hudson PB-6! Played hard and heavy!
Get your hair cut and get a proper job etc etc.....
 6. Aaargh.... this is getting very very cheap and I'm about 45 minutes from Paisley. Beads of sweat are starting to form.......
 7.
You need to think about this very carefully every day for a while. This bass will need to be your closest friend for the rest of your natural, the bass you go to whatever your emotion. The WifeBass. You will need to DREAD that day after you've lived with WifeBass for a while and you start GASing for a SpaltBass or a '64 Jazz, or a Ritter ..
What about the "TartyNineteenYearOldMistressBass"?? Ok, I'm going.......
 8. I know it sounds stupid... but if you're ordering a custom instrument how do you know what you want. I've been playing for quite a while and been through quite a few instruments and am still struggling with the idea of 5 string vs. 4 never mind all the other niceties! Surely you'd be scared that you ended up with something you didn't really like.
 9.
Well, I've just measured the actual width at the nut, and it's a touch under 47 mm, so I think it's worth a crack. If you see one of these hangers in the For Sale section in the next few days... you'll know it didn't work out. Thanks for the info, people.
I've got these wall-hangers and it looks like a clear 50mm to me.
 10. The Talk-Talk and the No-Doubt versions have lots of detail differences. Different key for a start (Eb vs. E). The original is probably a touch harder - you can't play it with open strings!. Great bass-line either way. It gets more fun right after the the bit you've tabbed of course
 11.
Either I'm going mental, my tuner has already, or the rest of guitar playing internet has been for some time. Can someone check this out for me - if you're with your bass it should only take a sec. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRYNYb30nxU Main riff - is supposed to be something like this in standard tuning
G|-----------------------------------------| D|-----------------------------------------| A|-----0-2-2--2-----2-2-0-0---0-2-4-0------| x3 E|--2-----------0-0---------4--------------|
Except... I start playing along to the YouTube clip and find I'm a semitone low. Shifting up and starting on the G sounds right to me... but the damn internet has me doubting. Can someone let me know if I have cloth ears or my tuner is f**ked.
I wouldn't always assume that a band plays "standard (A=440) pitch". Radiohead seem a good example of a band who can't afford to buy a tuner between them. Actually.... I've just realised that the song you are asking about was the first song I ever played live on the bass. Don't remember it at all now though!
 12.
Not years but months - Rancid, "Time Bomb". The last time I tried to play it I only had 3 band rehearsals to get it right and I just couldn't - had to simplify it down so much. But recently I went back to it and even though I wasn't quite up to speed, I found I was able to bluster through it OK. With additional practice I think I could nail it.
I've been trying to play "Hit me with your rhythm stick" for eight years!! I still can't get anywhere near the speed... I'll let you know
 13.
...but don't you realise that this is important in maintaining the snobbery around musical instruments and keeping the prices of the Big Brands artificially high?
In the middle of the market the Japanese (particularly Yamaha and Ibanez) have shown how it's done. Spot on quality every time for not much money. Of course, even they make just about everything in Taiwan, Indonesia etc. If you want some guy with a beard in New York to craft it by hand then you get to pay a fortune. If the end result is actually any better is, I suppose, a matter of opinion.
 14.
Hmmm don't know, close, but I'm not sure. The logo in the centre of the headstock isn't identical.
Well Muse make 'Alden' guitars which have some very similar looking basses. I guess it's one of those Taiwanese manufacturers who'll put on any badge you like if you buy a few. The "bulls horns" logo is also very similar. Either that it's something old and rare and I've just insulted the guy
 15.
How about a Muse Cleopatra?
A what?? But yes, that's the one. Well done - you win the prize that doesn't exist So... what the hell is a Muse Cleopatra.......
 16. I'm getting obsessed.... I thought Hagstrom too.
 17.
They can't be back together, most of them are dead.
Well Miles Hunt and the guitarist dude are the originals. They make a damn good tribute band anyway So... does nobody know what that bass is?
 18.
Thanks very much guys, don't seem to be getting anywhere with the couriers so I'm going to raise a paypsl dispute. What do you think about the valve thing? Am I wrong to be pissed off that its only got two valves in it?
Is it reasonable that the seller would know it only had two valves in? AND... even if he did would he know that there was anything unusual about it? It strikes me that if you have an amp and it seems to work properly then you wouldn't worry overly. Valves... it's all weird. How can an amp have "optional" valves?
 19. In ascending order... * Polite * Nasty * Solicitors
 20.
According to their website , westfields are made in bonny east kilbride near glasgow. They also make sheridan, lauren and boston brands.
It's not often you hear "bonny" and "East Kilbride" in the same sentence! I'd put proper money on it that they don't make a thing in EK. It'll just be a buying-from-the-far-east-and-sticking-a-badge-on operation.
 21.
The Wonderstuff are back together? How did I miss this? I love the Wonderstuff! Erm, they are still good aren't they?
Straight up... one of the best live acts I have heard in ages. They've been around for several years at least. Another good reason - their current violinist, Erica:
 22. Went to see the Wonderstuff at the O2 Academy in Glasgow tonight - and very good too. However, what's the mystery black bass that Mark McCarthy is playing....
 23. It *is* black, yes? The photies look kinda blue-ish maybe!
 24. I've only ever done this once and it was the drummer too. Ok, you need to (in the nicest possible way) grow a pair. Someone has to tell him. Someone be brave, draw straws, whatever. Deep breath, phone him up and tell him exactly what you told us - be honest. Don't get into a discussion, thank him for his time say goodbye and hang up. That's it, don't piss him around and don't make a big deal of it. He'll probably be upset but that's life. BTW... I was sacked once and the band "leader" sent me a one line email saying "I'm going to try another bass player". My feeling was and is that I at least deserved an explanation not some ginger coward taking the piss (you know who you are) as I certainly had not taken the piss out of him. Treat others as you would be wish to be treated yourself !!
 25. Stupid question time.... I assume that's a Stingray pickup in there? So, does it sound more-or-less like a StingRay 5?
