2.
I would have thought most of us would treat equipment with care. Maybe some people are less trustworthy however I assume all us northern bunch could vouch for the trustworthy members and likewise. I know Nick (Doctor of the bass) who lives southwards and would trust his recommendations and so the network expands and so on. Like i said you don't have to be involved, The thought of carriage costs or lack of case on an instrument could make or break a deal, or provide they buyer/ seller with the confidence of safe delivery. Just a suggestion.
I'm not saying for a minute you wouldn't treat stuff with care but accidents happen. Who would be responsible? Realistically, you have to think about these things.
3.
Hey So as some of you guys/gals know, I have had a somewhat awful and tricky journey to buying a new Fender Jazz USA. I have decided to go for the White with Tort guard and maple neck. Such a nice combo. Given up on PMT, and Reverb kept quoting me different prices! Any decent Fender stores who can do good prices? As in I order and they match (or closely match) someone like gak.co.uk. I absolutely refuse to pay more than about £30-40 over a website. Simply because Ill have to travel anyway! Or pay shipping anyway! GuitarGuitar have offered me a good price...anyone used them? Its the Newcastle branch (an excuse to go up North and party as well ) They also replied quickly and promised it would not be a demo like PMT! Also, Nevada music have offered me the same price. Dont know what those guys are like. Any shops about? Tried Electro PMT and Reverb so far. Electro are my normal store but they cant match internet prices of £829...which is a shame. I know retail has gone up...but come on every shop should be gagging to sell in this climate!
If you want to pay web prices then buy it off a web vendor. It's cheaper because they don't have to heat the place where you stand to argue about the price :-) Obviously you should haggle but you can't get high and mighty about paying amount x over the web price. It is, as the marketing folk say, a different product. Guitar Guitar are IMHO perfectly ok to deal with. At least the Glasgow branch is.
4.
Anyone interested in our own distribution network? I travel a lot around the North East, go to the Cotswolds a few times a year and travel to London/ Edinburgh occasionally? I would be more than happy to have a bass dropped off at my home or place of work and collected at my destination? I know this could logistically be hard to achieve but might be worth setting up a thread that would allow the registering of travel details and obviously you dont have to subscribe? Anyone else interested in trying? Just a thought? Dave
Yeh - your dog chews it. Then what? It's rapidly going to need insurance and all sorts of stuff. They call that CityLink
5. Bump...... probably leave it after this. I'll be in Loughborough (lucky me!!) for a few days next week if that makes any difference to anybody in that neck of the woods.
6.
Status S2 Classic 5 string. late 80s. If you go to the Status website, this bass is virtually identical to the one shown when you click 'S2 Classic'. Original case. This bass is in MINT condition. Serious offers.
Unless I'm missing something... the S2 Classic page has a whole list of different instruments.
7. Really just to do the "me too" thing. It won't get better it'll get worse if you don't do anything and, trust me, back pain can be incredibly bad. See a physio and/or go and do Pilates or whatever but do something.
8. It's complicated.... I think for a lot of stuff the E string sounds better than the equivalent notes on the B string. The B string is ideal if you want a big rumble but often you don't. So in some songs I play from or onto the B in others I'm chasing up and down the E string (or whatever). Either way it sounds crap because I'm doing it
9. I buy new strings. Am I missing something??
10. Weekend bump..... Just a reminder.... * Only *really* interested in trades. Everything's for sale for the right money of course * Anything decent with 5 strings, fretted and widish spacing seriously considered. Cash adjustment either way (not much from me to be honest) possible. * Preferably within vaguely sensible driving distance of Glasgow (M62ish up probably) - hate posting, too stressful. Had a couple of interesting offers but all from more South than a very Southern thing. Value wise.... I've seen these go for cash from between £800 and about £1200. This isn't pristine so it won't be worth anywhere near the top end but you can see the sort of cash value I'm thinking about.
11. I know I keep saying this and maybe I'm being stoopid, but it occurs to me that you sound like the dude out of bloc party by hiring an expensive studio with good technicians who know their stuff. Even bloc party don't sound like bloc party live. OK... he uses an Ashdown ABM-500 and one of their 8x10 cabs but it's very unlikely that makes a jot of difference to the PA sound when you hear them live in a huge room. I don't want to sound patronising but I just think it's comparing apples with oranges. I also suspect that getting close to that sound has more to do with technique than anything else.
12. I've got one of these and they are dead good. The sound is, for want of a better description, BIG. Blows the socks of a Musicman - if you like that sort of thing
13. Curry Mile..... my fave is "The Spicy Hut". Beware the rubber chicken however :-)
14. Did somebody mention curry??
15.
Idle curiousity here, nothing more. Does your drummer slow down? Or speed up? Or do they keep consistent near-perfect timing?
No comment However, it's one thing I am fascist about. Both drummers and bass players have to be able to keep time. Never mind all that fancy solo stuff if you don't come back in on the beat then you're sacked!! I've played with some amazing drummers but they go and do some wild fill and come back in half a beat too late. It throws everybody off - not good.
16.
PM sent...
PM replied
17. Nice bass... if it had another string etc.... Anyway, have a bump on me
18. Sunday night bump. Still looking for a decent five string. Really anything nice considered. I have some more pictures on my Flickr account which are a bit better... http://www.flickr.com/photos/34523097@N03/...57615763182518/
19. Caveat - I'm certainly no expert. However, that's my experience of 15 inch speakers. They sound great on their own but can lost in the overall sound. I now have 10s (a 4x10 and a 2x10 also Ashdown) and, while it doesn't sound so good by itself, the overall band sound seems to be better. Hardly scientific though!!
20.
Over the last couple of years I've started to lose my interest in playing music I still love listening to music but I pick up my bass less and less every month Has anyone on the boards had this same lack of interest?
I wouldn't get up up tight about it. Maybe you'll get it back, maybe you won't. I used to be a keen cyclist and then I discovered cake and sitting on my arse all day. Things change!!
21.
Isn't this a bit sexist?
I know - saying her TRB-6 was the same colour as his was a bit close to the bone......
22.
Hey guys, do you have enough time for practicing as well? I feel sorry that my ad took so much time away from so many people.
Oooh... harsh
23. It's strangely disturbing... I would say that I have always taken a keen interest in theory and harmony, yet I read this and appreciate that I understand so little of it. Back to playing 8th notes on the root I suppose
24.
She is Hot!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyRqQwdN-Lw...feature=related
I couldn't see her behind that TRB6 This is gospel is it not? I don't think you can call gospel singers hot!! All the same, you make a persuasive argument
25.
i don't suppose you fancy a 2008 American deluxe Precision ? it's a 4 string though.
PM'd. I've had one or two very tempting offers for this which I'm seriously thinking about. In most cases the issue is remoteness of me from all the action and trying to organise a meet up. Just to say thanks to those who have shown an interest and I am trying to get back to you all with something sensible (yes/no/where/when ). In the interests of laziness (mine!) if there is anybody else interested nearer than Brighton it is still available but probably not for much longer.
