1. What Owen said. Personally, I like a genuine worn bass, so buckle rash, worn off paint and battle scars wouldn't bother me at all.
  2.
If I were a big fan of them/their work then yes. Other than that, no, wouldn`t matter to me if it were once owned by a very famous, high-street-known name, wouldn`t be interested.
This. It would have to be a bassist I really liked. I've already got a couple from one of my bass heroes, but he's a mate so I suppose that doesn't count! I noticed that the all the exhibits from the Jam: About a Young Idea exhibition in Liverpool are being auctioned off at the end of the residence there, and apparently 4 of Bruce Foxton's basses are part of the auction. I'll be keeping a careful eye on those, although I suspect they'll go for far more than I can afford. Especially since the article says that they're expecting Rick Buckler's drum kit to fetch £20-25,000....
  3. I resisted the temptation to add Mustang Sally... Added a few of my faves, including Millionaire Waltz by Queen, which used to be my preferred warm up. Can't for the life of me play it now, though. Clearly the version on Spotify isn't at the original tempo. Ahem.
  4. Best combo ever. I'm tempted to buy this as a spare...
  5.
I'm an Oilers fan through and through. Now I will troll you mercilessly. You're not a Flames fan per chance?
Leafs. I know, I know....
  6. Welcome. I love Canada. Just tell me you're not an Oilers fan
  7.
Did he get his original (1st album) P Bass back?? in the 90's his interview stated it was stolen, which the Tele Bass was bought as the replacement.
Yes - I played it a couple of weeks ago . I didn't think that one was nicked though (although I could be wrong). I know that the first Tele bass was stolen from a Coventry Specials gig, and then the next one had a neck like a banana. He's swapped the neck on the current Telebass (used in the Ska orchestra) with a Squier Telebass neck, as it's slimmer. The original neck on that one was like a railway sleeper!
  8. Quick update: The courier is booked to arrive today, so I'm waiting for DHL to appear. I'll PM to tracking number to RhysP. It's been booked with a 24 hour service, so should arrive tomorrow. Big thanks for Chris (Beedster) for offering to pick up the courier cost - cheers mate!
  9.
I'm currently helping with the setting up of a music/recording room at the autism support centre that I attend. I've given them an acoustic guitar & some bits & pieces but your bass would be very useful for them if nobody else wants it. Unfortunately I'm in Cardiff so I wouldn't be able to pick it up from you, but if nobody near to you wants it & you're willing to post it that would be brilliant.
I know I said I'd leave it until Sunday, but my best friends son is autistic, so I have an affinity here. RhysP, drop me a PM with your address, and I'll happily send it over to you mate. Hope it'll be useful to you.
  10.
Fantastic offer, I'd happily pick up the courier fee if it finds a good home which can't collect Mark, don't see why you should get all the glory
Chris - thanks, that's very good of you, and I'll definitely take you up on that. Appreciated
  11. If you're interested in this bass, please take a look at this post: - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/290171-free-to-a-good-home-steinberger-xt2-spirit-bass-case-new-strings/ Cheers!
  12. So, I bought a Steinberger XT2 Spirit a couple of months ago. Cost me £175, and I added a new set of Steinberger strings for £30. I liked the bass so much, I've just bought the big brother model (Synapse). Both are great basses, and the Steinberger Spirit is a proper bargain when you take into account the price. I recently gigged it at a quiet sit down gig, and it didn't let me down. So, here's the deal - I've met some really cool people on here, and have been given tons of great advice, had laughs, and bought and sold a lot of nice stuff on here. Being on other forums (fora?) has made me realise what a good place this is to hang out... I was listing the bass for sale (for £150), and the link is here: http://basschat.co.u...nd-new-strings/ However, I'd like to donate it / give it away / call it whatever you like. I'd really like it to go to a good home, rather than someone who already has 5 basses and just fancies trying this. I'd also like to donate it to someone who's not just going to sell it on eBay for £200 after a month too! Sounds corny, but it would be nice if this went to someone who really appreciated it. So, if anyone works with a charity (I donated a little amp a while ago to someone who was setting up a musical therapy room, but can't find the messages that relate to that), or knows of someone who wants to get into bass but maybe doesn't have the cash to buy a bass, then please post on here. I'll leave the thread active until Sunday night, and then we'll see if there's any interest. I reserve the right to choose the recipient (assuming someone wants it!), and hopefully someone will get some use out of it. Happy for people to PM if they'd rather not post circumstances etc on here. Collection would be nice: around Warwickshire is easy for me. However, I'll pick up postage costs if necessary.
  13. I got this about 3 months ago, and was so impressed with it that I've since gone out and bought its older brother (Steinberger Synapse). Cracking little bass, very light and easy to transport, and sounds great. I bought it as a travel bass (I spend a lot of times in hotels with my job!), but liked the feel of it so much, I used it for a recent sit-down-and-play-quietly-in-a-bar gig. The folding leg stand works well! Comes with the Steinberger soft case, and a new set of Steinberger strings. Plays well, and is a great bass for the money. One point to mention - the tuner for the D string is quite stiff. I can move it fine, but it's not as smooth as the other tuners. Not an issue but thought I'd mention it. The bass holds tuning very well, so I've not had to retune it in about a month (not that being out of tune has ever stopped me before). Some info from the Steinberger website: The Spirit XT-2DB 4-string bass guitar is a breakthrough for contemporary bassists. It features the patented Steinberger DB-Tuner, which extends the range of the E-string from Eb to B. This electric bass also features a 3-piece, hard maple thru-neck construction with the patented Steinberger Double-Ball Tuning System that provides rock-solid tuning, stability, and tone. At only 38.50" in length, it is among the most travel-friendly and convenient full-size, professional basses on the market. FEATURES

Number of Strings: 4
Body Wing Material: Maple
Neck Material: 3-piece Hard Maple
Neck Joint: Thru-Neck
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Scale Length: 34"
Frets: 24
Neck Width at Zero Fret: 1.50"
Pickups (passive): Bridge - EMG Select Humbucker
Neck - EMG Select Humbucker
Controls: 1 - Neck Pickup Volume
1 - Bridge Pickup Volume
1 - Master Tone
Bridge: Patented Steinberger Bass Bridge with direct-pull 40:1 fine tuners and patented DB-Tuner drop-tuning system
Tuning System: Patented, Steinberger Double-Ball System
Stock picture shown below - I can take real pics later when I'm home from work, but it looks just like this one! £150 collected from junction 12 of the M40 (sunny Warwickshire) or I can meet in Solihull / Leamington / Warwick. Happy to post at cost price. Famous last words: I really don't need anything else, but feel free to let me know trades. I'm have incurable GAS so there's bound to be something either musically related, or general gadget-like that I'll be tempted with. I can always add money for the right trade (semi acoustic bass might be tempting). Any questions, let me know. Cheers!
  14. I really enjoyed that - thanks for sharing the link. Those Maruszczyk (I now know how to pronounce that after your video!) basses look and sound great for not a lot of money. I keep looking at their website and hesitating for no good reason. I think your video may push me over the edge!

Top man. Much missed. I raised a glass yesterday.
  16. That's a great price and a nice mod, too. I'd be all over this if I didn't have 2 Telebasses already. Good luck with the sale.
  17.
I do think I would get option paralysis with all the switches though!
I had a red CIJ version a few years ago, and that's the exact reason I sold it... too many options. I could get a bunch of good sounds out of it, but then could never remember how I got there! Great looking basses though.
  18. Here are my two: Both had been fitted with an additional pickup when I got them - the custard bass had a jazz pup, and the black one had a lipstick pup. Both were originally sunburst, but I had them refinished when work was done and routing filled. Whilst they're not the most versatile basses on earth, I do think that they're sometimes wrongly branded as one-dimensional. Yes, they do the whole bass-you-can-feel-in-your-chest thing well, but there are some tonal variations lurking in there.
  19. I actually bought a Hohner Violin bass about 5 years ago on a business trip in the US. 2 flights to get back to England (one small plane, one trans-Atlantic) and I was able to carry it on both flights. It was stored in the closet at the front of the plane without me even asking as I got on the flights.
  20.
What a very special gift from a very special friend. Hehe.
Correct!
  21.
Nice one, thanks tredders. Ask him about it someday, I bloody love them but they're so rare. I bagged me a Kay K162 from '59 recently and it is incredible - for rootsy Chicago blues at least.
I just texted him about the Kay - will let you know what he says. I felt obliged to mention that shirt he's wearing in the pic, too 😳 I've never seen one of those Kay's, let alone played one. Looks great though.
