1. He doesn't still have it (although looking at how much they fetch now, I bet he wishes he still did!). His arsenal is currently a US Jazz & a Thunderbird (for Specials work), a jap Jazz (may be Mex, I can't remember) for blues gigs, a '73 Telecaster bass for the ska orchestra work, and the original '72 P bass used on the first album (which is bloody gorgeous and plays like a dream) for special occasions. Great bassist and an even nicer bloke.
2. That is lovely. Colour is fantastic! I've never played a CS bass - is it as good as you were expecting?
3.
I tried a friends Spirit I think. It felt very strange with no headstock and little body to speak of. My fingers didn't know where they were on the frets. The headstock must be a reference point for finger-memory.
To be fair, my fingers rarely know which frets they're on at the best of times
4. I just picked up a Steinberger Spirit (cheapie model cricket bat bass), with quite low expectations. I travel a lot with work and thought that this might be just ok for using for that. It arrived today, I stuck a new set of strings on (Bass Direct had 3 different gauges to choose from!), and had a play, and..... it's actually great! Action is low, neck is nice, and there's a wide selection of tones in there. To be honest I'm amazed at how good it is. Friend is lending me the next model up (Synapse) when he's back off tour, so I'm looking forward to trying that, as I hear that there's a big difference in quality between the Spirit and Synapse. If there is, I can't wait!
5. Splendid chap. He saw my wanted ad for a 'cricket bat' bass, and kindly pointed me towards an eBay "Buy it Now" bargain, which I snapped up instantly. Nice thing to do - good guy!
6. This gentleman bought my Shuker P bass from me, and it was a very smooth sale indeed. Courier was no trouble - it was totally hassle free selling overseas. Nice guy to deal with - recommended.
7. Anyone else noticed that there's a whole host of nice stuff for sale on here around £500? I've got a few quid from another sale that's burning a hole in my bank account, but for once there's way too much choice... Just a few at random, all under the £500 mark: - 1. Black Jack Casady with case 2. Red Hot Rod Jaguar 3. Eden ultra compact combo 4. Lakin 44-51 50's P bass 5. Lakland Skyline Hollowbodies x 2 Additionally, I've been offered a lovely Steinberger Synapse (which as I travel a lot with work, appeals a lot). Anyone got £3000 they can lend me?!
8.
I think I own that bass now. Took a little getting used to & a change of amp it helped the sound, but I agree with Anzoids comments above about the sound. The balance & weight are so good, my Jazz bass is now the one of the two the feels slightly uncomfortable on a strap, & I've been used to that one for 10 years! I'm more than happy with it to be honest, as it's very easy to play & has great tonal range. I don't think they are available new any more though, which if that's the case, would be a shame.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sounds like it's a good one!
9. Suspect that I already know the answer to this, but I'm after a cricket bat bass, so if this is still available (either from the original seller or from whoever bought it), let me know? Cheers.
10. What are your thoughts on it now after having it nearly a year? I'm interested, as I'm looking for a cricket bat bass, and this is one of the models I'm considering...
11. Have a word with Jon Shuker. Your specs were pretty much the same as mine and he built the beauty in my sig. You won't be a million miles away on price. Link: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/169068-nbd-shuker-precision-with-jazz-neck/page__fromsearch__1
12.
Can't compare it to a Bob Glaub unfortunately as I've never played one... the neck is quite narrow (40mm) and not very chunky, more like a 70s than a 50s P. .... ok I just compared the specs - it's got the same fingerboard radius (10") as the BG but is a bit deeper at the first fret .87 compared to .76 of the Glaub
Thanks
13. What's the neck like on this? Is it similar to the Bob Glaub? Specifically is it quite flat & narrow like the BG?
14. Lovely bass, and some great playing. Sounds ace with those La Bellas on...
15. Very nice. You couldn't have fitted a couple more pickups in there then? ;-)
16.
It was this Bass that inspired me to get my Shuker , thank you Tredders It also inspired its design ...
Ah, very cool - glad to hear it! Any pics of yours?
