1. Got this a couple of years ago, and it's hardly been used (let alone left the house or gigged). Nice rich sounds either acoustic or plugged in. Just had some new Elite Phosphor bronze strings on it, too. Not a mark on it. Excuse the quick & dirty photos (not to mention the dust on the bass!): These are £255 at Thomann (see http://www.thomann.d...nez_aeb8ebk.htm), so I'm looking for £125 collected from near Gaydon in Warwickshire (j.12 M40). I don't have a case or bag for this, so would prefer not to ship it - might be able to meet up as long it's not miles from home. I'm always open to trades - I also have a Zoom B3 (http://basschat.co.u...de-zoom-b3-psu/) and a TC Electronic BG250 combo (http://basschat.co.u...250-1x15-combo/) for sale too, so would trade all 3 for a bass - 4 string only, pref passive. Let me know if you have something in mind. Any questions, just ask.
2. Sounded good to me! Looks like it was an enjoyable gig.
3.
Yes, good call. Not really my place to shout about which songs to do as I'm only depping, but I will mention it to the guys. They have just added Night Club though, but that was only on Tuesday so a bit late in the day for me. I was quite hoping I might be able to persuade them to do Time For Action (Secret Affair) but that hasn't happened yet either.
I was just about to say "it only needs Nite Klub now" and lo and behold it appears! Great set list - I'll come & see you if you're anywhere near us.
4. That's a great price and is identical to a JV I (foolishly) sold last year. Best P basses you can buy outside of custom shop or decent vintage ones, in my opinion.
5. Ah, that's my old bass and it's lovely. I had it with TI flats on and it sounded just like a P bass should. These JV basses really are as good as their reputation suggests.
6. That's really very cool. And one of my favourite basslines ever...
7. I keep getting drawn back to this... I owned a BB1100s a while back and it was a great bass. Everything I read about the BB1200 tells me that this would a fantastic instrument, and that tone in the last 2 YouTube videos is just awesome...
8. I've bought and sold quite a lot on here, and every transaction with the exception of one has been great. Mentioning no names, but I was selling a bass at a very good price (as I was just about to buy something else), and had literally 5 "I'll take it" PMs within an hour. As ever, I worked down them in line, and got back to the first person telling him it was his (and sent a it's-sold-but-I'll-get-back-to-you-if-it-falls-through message to the others). So buyer tells me he doesn't want it delivering, he'll pick it up, but can't get round for a week (despite living 30 mins from me). I hold onto it, and sure enough he arrives the following week, plays the bass, loves it, but instead of handing over all the money, tells me that he's bought £100 deposit, and will get the rest of the money to me the next day. As I still have the bass, I'm ok with this, although the ongoing delay is a bit of a pain. Next day comes, and I hear nothing. I send a PM and get a reply the next day, saying he'll pop down with the money "tomorrow"... You can probably guess the rest - after several false promises, he says he can't complete on the purchase (we're talking a £500 bass here, by the way, not several thousands). Naturally I'm a bit non-plussed with this, but as I'm out for dinner with the family at the time, I send a reply back telling him I'll refund his £100 later that evening. Within an hour, I get a notification on my For Sale thread along the lines of "you owe me £100, and although I don't like airing dirty laundry in public, I will do if you don't pay it back now". Sigh. So, not only did I lose 4 other buyers, not only did I hold onto a bass for a couple of weeks longer than necessary due to a time waster, he then had the audacity to try to make me out to be the bad guy on my sale thread. Knob. Incidentally, I subsequently chatted to someone else on here about time wasters, and the very same guy had done exactly the same thing to them. Luckily, the person in question stopped being active on here, otherwise I'd have had no problem in outing them.
9. Just to resurrect an old thread, H and the band played the Godiva Festival in Coventry this weekend. A few clips below: -
10. Just in case you're one of the 3 people in England who I've not shown these photos to, here's my before & after '73 Telecaster which Uncle H sorted out for me: Before After
11. Get well soon, Howard. One of the good guys.
12. That looks really nice - the relic work doesn't look too contrived. Have to say, I keep looking at the Pino-like P bass on Classic & Cool, but I've never played a Limelight, nor do I know anyone who has. Do me a favour and tell me that the Jazz plays like a dog? It'll save me from buying another bass I don't really need if you do
13. That's bloody lovely. It's not helping my VM4 GAS at all though...
14.
Add anything from Bruce Foxton of The Jam to those,
Beat me to it - was just about to suggest Tube station (live version).
15. I love a happy ending Nice to see the old thing restored to its former glory, and even nicer to think it's going to get some use, too. Thanks for the donation, Dan - all worked out well.
16.
That's a thoroughly decent thing to do, I commend you.
Don't worry, normal (grumpy) service will be resumed shortly...
17. I've got a GP12 SMX sitting in my music room. It works perfectly, but on occasion, after about 15 minutes it starts squealing (which unbelievably sounds even worse than my playing). Doesn't happen all the time, but it makes you quickly rush for the power switch when it does... I've just done a quick google, and it seems as though it's a fairly common solder problem on a smoothing cap, so easily sorted out if you can use a soldering iron (or a cheap fix by an amp tech). Exactly the same as the one just sold for £275: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/222757-trace-elliot-gp12smx300-head/page__p__2354286__hl__trace%20elliot__fromsearch__1#entry2354286 Here's the deal - if you want to come and collect it, or arrange a courier (it's pretty heavy), you can have it FOC. Then, if you're happy with it, bung some money (maybe £50?) to the donations section of Bass Chat. Sound fair? (Just one condition - if it becomes surplus to requirements in the future, you donate it on to someone else). Let me know Mark.
18. Another great experience with Andy - it's the 3rd or 4th time I've bought from him, and it's always a pleasant experience. This time I bought a cracking TC combo from him, and as a bonus, I now how enough bubble wrap to last me until 2019! Thanks Andy - always a pleasure mate!
19. I just sold my OTB / Aguilar rig to Jay, and it couldn't have gone any smoother. Nice guy - paid instantly, and arranged a courier to collect everything. Painless and pleasant from start to finish - deal with confidence, he's a good guy.
20. Another great deal with John. I bought his old Fender Bassman rig off him, and just as before, he went out of his way to make it easy. Top, top man to deal with. Thanks again, John.
21.
This may help......... http://www.whosample...lim/Praise-You/
That website is genius! I can feel the next 3 or 4 hours of my life are going to be spent there!
22. Someone please buy this before I do something daft...
23.
Heavy? You're kidding, right? It's practically hollow. It's far and away the lightest bass I own. But yes, if it's old school you want, the Jack Casady is hard to beat. The varitone gives a few extra tonal options, can't speak for all of them but mine is well finished and screwed together and it looks the absolute nuts, especially in gold - although I think they've just released a white one, if that's your thing.
Mine was 8.5 lbs, which I thought was heavy for a semi-acoustic bass. It's way heavier than any of the other semi-acoustics I've owned (Hofner President, Hofner Violin, Hofner Club bass). Sure, it's not 70's P bass weight, but I was surprised by the weight for a semi.
