1. How about adding a P Retro - they don't need any modification to fit. I've got one in my Shuker, and it gives a lot of flexibility.
2. I'd be looking right here if I were you: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/215829-shuker-jazz-4-string-price-reduction-l699-ono/page__p__2210380__hl__shuker__fromsearch__1#entry2210380 Mark.
3. I have very serious GAS for this bass... One of my 'really wish I'd never sold that' basses was a Bob Glaub Skyline, and it was amazing. I can only imagine how good the US one is like. Looks round to see what could be sold....
4.
The TC Electronic Poly Tune app
This ^^^
5. A Pino Precision, Gibson Thunderbird, Jetglo Ric, and one of the Coronado re-issues for me please. Oh, and a Fender Bassman and cab, or a nice old Ampeg valve rig. Reminds me, I have a lottery ticket from Saturday that I haven't checked yet. If I've won the jackpot, everyone on this thread can have everything on their GAS list
6. Thanks for all the comments - I'm really pleased with the results. Howard really did a great job.
All the pics have gone, hopefully they'll be back soon, sounds like a fine job!
Pics are showing for me. Anyone else having problems?
7. Looks great! Is that the model with the scalloped upper frets? (Not that they would be of any use to me. Anything above the 5th fret is wasted on me)
8.
Dookie is 20 years old next year!
Nah, that can't be right. If that was the case, it'd make me really old, and I'm still only 25 at heart! I do like the look of the white and maple one...
9.
Pics when it's done or it didn't happen
Just got it back today - have a look at the before & after pics on this thread: - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/216355-73-fender-telecaster-bass-before-after/ Mark.
10. So, a couple of months ago, I bought a '73 Telecaster bass. I'd been after one for years but could never find the right one (in the right condition at the right price). I got it from the bass player out of Marmalade, and he'd owned it for a while & gigged it extensively. At some point during its life, it had a Jazz pickup added (the default mod of the day with Tele basses, it seems). Contrary to many people's views (see the old thread for details: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1), I wanted it back to original (i.e. the Jazz pup removing), and that meant that the options were to have a veneer put on the front of the bass (to cover the routing), or have the body sanded & refinished. I opted for the latter, so sent the bass off to Howard (The Bass Doc) for his magic touch. Here are a few 'before' photos: - And here are a few 'after' photos - the bass arrived back to me today: - I couldn't be happier with the results - the bass is beautifully finished - nice even vintage looking finish, with a new pickguard specially made. Howard fitted some La Bella lights, and set the action for me, and it plays like a dream now. I can see why everybody raves about those 70's Telecaster necks now. So, just a quick 'thank you' to Howard for a great job (and for tolerating my "is it ready yet? is it ready yet?" constant emails!), and a huge recommendation for his work. Mark.
11. That's lovely Chris. The grain on the body is beautiful. Is it all original?
12. Apart from the re-fin and the jack socket, is it all original?
13. Lakeland Duck Dunn is basically a P bass with a jazz neck on it.... I also had a CIJ 70's RI P bass a few years ago, and that had a very slim neck on it - I think it might have been jazz dimensions. In the end, Jon Shuker made me my perfect bass - P body with jazz neck on (any excuse to put up a pic of it!)
14. Bought a set of Roto black nylons (oo-er) from Steve. Bargain price, superfast delivery. What more could you ask for? Thanks mate!
15. I'll take these please. Drop me a PM with payment details? Thanks Mark
16. That's my old bass. Tis lovely!
17.
Yep, its a rich man's toy, nothing more. I dont begrudge anyone who buys or wants one, but i can see no actual need for anyone to own one other than want, or can (which are good enough reasons i suppose) I bet it doesn't make you play or sound any closer to Pino than a Squier CVP, and certainly wouldn't look any different on stage.
And that's the rub, isn't it? How many of us on here can actually justify the instruments we have? I remember a topic on here about signature basses, and several people slagged off the bass player from Kaiser Chiefs for having a custom Shuker bass! Just the odd world tour, and several best selling albums under his belt, and he was criticised for his playing and the fact he had a nice bass! I'd be really interested in a blind playing & sound test of a CVP vs a Pino - I'd bet the results would catch a few of us out.
18.
I've owned quite a few Ps in my time, my current one is a 2012 with CS pups and I love it. I got the chance to play OHM's Pino (unplugged) and I found it extremely hard to put it down. It just felt right, played beautifully and I instinctively knew it would sound great plugged in. Is it worth £3,000 new? IMHO no. It's not £2,000 better than my P or a RW I also played recently. However, if one came up at the right price and I'm thinking in terms of £1500-£1700 and I was in my market for a P, I wouldn't hesitate.
And that's pretty much the conclusion I came to. If I'd been able to pick up a 2nd hand one for £1500-£1700, I'd have bought it. However, at £2500-£3000, I'd be looking at a genuine vintage P bass.
19. I also bought a laptop from Rob. Absolute bargain, well packaged, and he'd gone to the trouble of applying all the Windows updates before sending it out to me. It was packaged really well and he even threw in a laptop bag for it. Top man - credit to our little community. Thanks Mark.
20. Happy 50th mate! Have a fantastic time.
21.
I take one piggin week a year holiday in the place with no reception and this comes and goes.......................
What makes it worse is that I'd have traded it for your BG too.....
22. Pete just drove to my place to buy a pink '62 Jazz bass I was selling. Really nice guy - the perfect buyer. We had a coffee and a chat and did the deal. I'd be delighted to deal with him again (maybe if I can prise the '68 P bass or one of his Rics from him ) Cheers Pete - you're a gent!
23. This is now on hold pending funds. Thanks for all the interest.
24.
I have a pair of ibanez blazer s for sale/trade, 1 fretted and 1 fretless, both p style and superb...?
Hmm, tempting though it is, I don't think I need another 2 basses (although I don't own a fretless). I think I'm going to hold out for a while longer, thanks - I've got a few people trying to rustle up cash at the moment,
25.
Wish it was a P, but nevertheless - it looks STUNNING.
In fairness, if it was a P, it wouldn't be for sale PM's replied to. I should have mentioned I'm only interested in 4 strings, preferably passive. Cheers.
