They ahve some nice old basses there if you wanna bring me one back?? Obviously I'll pay for it!!
Well, if I change my mind about the Telecaster and don't plan on bringing anything back with me, I'll let you know -
I'm a bit late to this thread, but if anyone is thinking of ordering some more, I'd take 2 (or 4 if it makes it easier). Cheers.
Or if you are in Manhattan and fancy a one owner 70s Ric 4001 in Azureglo!! http://umanovguitars...kenbacker-4001/ Great shop - always have fantastic used stuff and whenever I'm over (about every 3 years if I'm lucky - I'm not Richard Branson!) I try and look in. Nice 70s natural finish jazz too : http://umanovguitars...nder-jazz-bass/ Put the credit cards away.............. now!
That Ric is lovely, but is it just me or do the prices in that Manhattan store seem high, even by UK prices? $3000 (£1850) for an '82 fretless Precision? -
Tredders, take a case with you, with an old Squier/Encore etc in it. Buy whichever you think you can flog on here, when out there give the Squier/encore in p-ex (or even to a charity shop) buy said bass, bring it back - very unlikely if records show you going out there with a bass that they`ll check the exact bass & serial number - then sell it on at a profit to you, but still at a good price to someone else, bearing in mind it`s new. I don`t need a new bass, but if I were after an AV 62 Precision, a new one (ok, owned by you for a week or so) for £1000 would be a steal for me, and you`d be making nearly £300. Speculate to accumulate.
I may (or may not, depending on whether anyone here works for customs & excise!) have walked through Heathrow with a new bass following previous visits to the US, and not been stopped. Although I like your thinking Lozz, to be honest, I wouldn't do it to make a profit, but I have to say that I'm sorely tempted to pickup one of the vintage Telecaster basses whilst I'm there. The one I'm particularly interested in is a '73 model, all original, with original hard case, and it works out to be around £1100. I figure that's a substantial saving (around £650 from looking around vintage guitar sellers) over what it would cost over here, so even if I get clobbered by duty, I'll still be better off. Guitar Center have said that they'll courier any of the Telecasters to the Dallas store for me to have a look at, so their customer service is pretty good too. -
GuitarCenter will ship to the UK now as well---and last time I looked they claimed to deal with all the taxes etc up front so it should all be transparent and hassle free...
Problem is, it's a very small range that they are prepared to sell & ship to the UK. Unless their policy has changed recently, they only sell a handful of basses to International customers. No Fenders for starters, and none of their used stuff. I remember seeing that they were shipping to the UK earlier in the year and got quite excited about the prospect, until I checked it out. Shame really.
Maybe I looked on the wrong web site as I didn't spot any vintage Telecaster basses but I did spot this 65 Jazz in my fave colour combination
There were 3 yesterday, and now only 1 today. Maybe my emails prompted them to realise that they'd already sold 2 of them! Had an email back on one of them though, and it looks lovely! Edited to say: All 3 are still there - just seems as though the search system on their website is a bit random! http://www.guitarcenter.com/Search/Default.aspx?internal=1&browser=&fsrc=fender+telecaster+bass&src=fender+telecaster+bass -
Don`t be silly!!! When has that mantra "I don`t need any more basses" ever worked!! It just goes to show, we really do get ripped off when it comes to the price of bass guitars compared to the old US.
To be fair, it looks as though GuitarCenter has a sale on at the moment. Those AV-62 deals are advertised as being $990 off, so their original price would have been a bit closer to what we pay (around £1300), although isn't RRP over here about £1700 these days? I may have sent emails about 3 early 70's Telecaster basses in their used inventory.... . Let's see if I get a reply. -
I'm off to Dallas at the start of Jan with work, so just happened to be browsing the GuitarCenter website (as you do). Generally find time to pop in there and have a look around when I'm traveling over there, so thought I'd see if there were any offers on. Seems like there are some cracking deals right now. For example: - AV-62 Jazz for $1200 (£735) AV-62 Precision for $1160 (£715) Roadworn Jazz or Precision for $999 (£615) Add on 8% sales tax, and they're still great deals for brand new basses. Repeat after me "I don't need any more basses. I don't need any more basses"

Best. Review. Ever. I've actually just deleted this from my Amazon wish list on the basis of your review. You've just saved me £15. -

I just bought Pete's Takamine acoustic bass from him, and he was a pleasure to deal with. We exchanged a couple of friendly PM's arranging where to meet up, and he drove over to meet me and do the deal. Really nice bass, and a top bloke to deal with. Thanks Pete. Mark.

I am absolutely seething after dealing with Interparcel. I've used them lots of times before and they've generally been ok, but I will never use them going forwards. Sold a bass and booked collection Wednesday. Paid additional insurance, and it all came to just over £35, so I wasn't using a super-cheap option. The bass needed to be in London by Monday at the latest, since the buyer is on holiday from then onwards. We were on holiday from Thursday, too, but neither was a problem seeing as I'd booked a Wednesday collection. Just to be double sure, I confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that collection was going to happen on that day, and Interparcel rang the driver, and confirmed he was on the way. Needless to say, the courier didn't turn up, and of course, Interparcel's office closes at 17:30, so it's now Thursday, and we've had to delay leaving for holiday until I knew what was going on with the bass. I called Interparcel at 08:30, and they basically told me that the collection was cancelled on their system yesterday morning (they have no idea why), and that it would have said that when their colleague called to check yesterday afternoon, so they don't know why I was told that the collection would definitely happen. So, the girl yesterday basically told me that she'd ring the driver to check, put me on hold for 2 minutes, and then said "yes, he's on the way". Nice. So, I accept that problems occur, and the true measure of a company is how the problems get sorted out. Interparcel's suggestion was that "there's nothing we can do apart from re-booking the collection today". I repeat that we were due to leave to go on holiday at 7AM, and that I've already wasted 2 hours trying to sort out their problem. Her reply "Sorry, but that's all I can do", and adds that even if I do rebook, she's unable to even tell me whether it would be a morning or afternoon collection. So I'd waste an entire day of my holiday. She then helpfully suggests that we go on holiday, and I leave the bass on my doorstep for the driver, and then adds as an afterthought "but if it goes missing, you wouldn't be covered by insurance". Perhaps not, eh? Her next inspired suggestion is that I drive the parcel to the Nuneaton depot, which is a two hour round, in the opposite direction to where we're heading for holidays. I tell her that's not really an option. "Well, there's nothing else I can do. Do you want me to cancel the collection?". I try to make her understand that this is Interparcels problem to sort out, but it clearly doesn't register. I ask if the bass can be collected from our holiday address, and she says "I suppose so, but it'll mean rebooking it, and there may be an additional charge that you'll have to pay". Fantastic (and I'd be delighted to pay some more money for this sterling service), let's at least check that option, remembering that the bass needs to be in London for Monday. I provide the postcode (for the place we've owned for 12 years, go to once a month, receive utility bills at etc), and "it's not showing on our system, which means we can't collect from there". I give her the address of the Sainsburys store just down the road "ah yes, it's found that, do you want me to book collection from there instead?". I say yes, and point out though that the driver will need to call my mobile when he arrives, as it'll take me 2 minutes to drive down there. "Sorry, but the drivers won't do that. You'll need to wait at Sainsburys for him to turn up, and we can't promise whether it'll be a morning or afternoon collection". So the proposal is for me to wait on a Sainburys carpark for 8 hours, on the first day of my holiday, on the off chance that the driver turns up, all the time remembering that the cock up wasn't down to me in the first place? Not really a great suggestion. To cut a very long and boring story short, the solution is for me to take the bass on holiday with me, drop the family off in Dartmouth, and then drive the 90 mile round trip to the depot in Exeter, so that the bass is delivered on the day I promised the buyer. Wonderful. You can imagine how much I love Interparcel right now...
can you tell me the weight and neck profile please? Cheers Pete
Hi Pete It looks to be 1.625" at the nut, so the same as my '73 P bass. It's quite a slim neck, but doesn't feel as skinny as a Jazz, and is very fast. On the bathroom scales, it comes in at 9.5 lbs. Hope this helps - any more questions, fire away.

A few people have asked about trades. Whilst I'd prefer to sell it outright, my usual list of trades would be as follows: - 1. Fender Pino 2. Fender Telecaster bass 3. Custom Shop P or J bass 4. Thunderbird 5. Ric (preferably Jetglo) 6. Bravewood / Nash relic 7. Vintage Fender P or J bass I've got £££ to trade up for the right bass. Cheers

Traded my Bass Buddy for Brian's DHA VT2-Twin pedal (and a bit of cash), and it couldn't have gone any smoother. Nice bloke to deal with, and the pedal arrived in double quick time & was like new. Thanks mate! Mark.
Bump because I have just had a look at your Shuker 2012 custom P. I would just like to state implicitly I hate you . If it had a brown tortie plate I am afraid that would have been the final straw and I would have had to set the Exocet Wife-ile onto you. Good luck (again), Karl.

Interested in any trades Mark?
I'd love to be sensible enough to say "No, I'm going to sell this and take the cash", but as ever, I'd consider trades! Having said that, it'd have to be something really interesting (and I can add £££ for the right thing), as I'm only really selling this to reduce the number of basses I have
