1. Thanks for all the kind comments. It is a very special bass, and I won't be the least bit bothered if I end up keeping it. Be nice if someone on here gave it a home and regularly played it though
2. NOW SOLD - THANKS FOR ALL THE INTEREST. Bought this from JohnBiffa on here 3 months ago, for a 50's project that never got off the ground. John commissioned it himself from Jon Shuker, and waited patiently for 12 months for the build to happen. It's an absolute beauty, and plays and sounds like a dream. It's a typical Shuker bass - really well put together, great sounding and great to play. However, I'm between bands right now, and 6 basses seems a little excessive It's a 51 Precision in period-accurate off white, with black pickguard, and a gorgeous maple neck. Just been fitted with a new set of flats for that authentic retro sound, too. Oh, and I paid for a pro-setup 8 weeks ago, so it plays as good as it looks. The SD pickup works really well, giving a surprising range of tones. It's on Jon Shuker's website (under the P bass gallery), and here are a few recent pics: - It comes with a decent quality gig bag. Looking for £[s]800[/s] £750 collected from j.12 M40 or my office in Solihull. Postage will be at cost, but I would prefer a meet up. Cheers Mark.
3. I bought this a month or so back from here, but I'm just not going to use it as I thought I would. Phil Jones Bass Buddy, in immaculate condition. Comes with power leads, fitted carry case and manual. Works perfectly. I've nicked the following pics from the seller, but it's in the same condition as you can see. I've literally used it for about an hour since getting it. Full spec is on the Phil Jones website http://www.philjones.../products/?id=2 Looking for what I bought it for £150, collected from home (j.12 M40 - between Leamington & Banbury), or my office in Solihull. I'll post at cost. Will also trade for anything interesting - effects, partial trade (with me putting cash) towards a 4 string bass or EUB. Try me with whatever you've got! Cheers Mark.
4.
Wonderful thanks - will have to use proper pc tho Can't see profile pics on iPhone except very tiny anyway - does it have a black guard ?
Yep, it has a black guard. It's the original one, too. As someone said earlier, it's not uncommon to see black guards on P basses from this year. If you want any detailed pics, let me know.
5. I've got a 73 P bass (in sunburst, obviously!). It's the one in my profile pic. Let me know if you have any specific questions or want any detailed pics taking.
6. I bought a couple of books from Stevie. Nice smooth deal - books were a bargain and they're like new. Good guy to deal with. Mark.
7. Just bought a Phil Jones Bass Buddy from Steve. Nice and easy transaction - it arrived in a day and it's in great condition - exactly as described. Cheers mate! Mark
8. I managed to buy back my old Jack Casady from Gareth, and it was another easy and completely painless transaction. The bass was immaculate - exactly as described, and it was packaged up so well, Houdini would have struggled to get out of it! Great guy to deal with - thanks Gareth. Mark.
9. Subscribe to this guy on Youtube. He's got nearly 900 songs on there - just him and his acoustic guitar. Just add bass for instant rehearsal experience. Apart from the fact you can turn his volume down without causing an argument! http://www.youtube.com/user/georgiarose16/videos
10.
Hi Mark , no delivery date yet , but I haven't asked , maybe I should ..? I don't want to seem too pushy too soon really . Yours was about 7 weeks wasn't it ? Pretty fast ! I'm not expecting that speed , but I hope it's not the 2 years that giblett123 ( Chris ) waited
Mine was 7 weeks, but that was down to Jon already having a completed body in the exact spec & colour I wanted, which was massively lucky. I just had to wait for the neck... However long it takes, it'll be worth the wait
11. Can't wait to see some pics of this as the build progresses. Make sure Jon sends you pics as he goes along. Have you got a delivery date for it?
12. I'll take this matey. Will drop you a PM. Mark.
13.
the mudbucker-only option never really did - well, not for anything but early '70s blues rock - which is why you don't see a whole lot of folks using 'em. This bass is definitely best left as is
Or very cool ska.... Horace used one in the Specials early days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkKPG0FL4cU I'm wondering how much it'd cost to get this back to original, too....
14.
Cheers Tredders, things do seem a bit slow at the moment. As you have bought your old one back perhaps I should keep mine, what made you get hold of it again?
I got rid of mine because I didn't gig it or use it outside of the house at the time. Then as soon as I'd got rid of it, I remembered how I used to keep it in the living room to just noodle about on it if I got 10 mins spare - it was loud enough unamplified to be used to practice. I thought about getting a cheapo acoustic bass, but then realised for not much more I could get another JC. Then my old bass came up for sale, and the rest as they say is history.... Great basses, and with the hard case, it's worth £450 all day long...
15. Just buy it. Let's face it, the way you get through back line, it'll be back up for sale in a month anyway
16. I think it's a good price. If I'd not just bought my old Jack Casady back (for the same money), I'd have had this. Nothing seems to be moving at the moment...
17. Thanks HJ. Ordered a couple of Philips AT7's from Watford Valves (who were incidentally very helpful), and followed your instructions & fitted the new valves this morning. Piece of cake, even to a ham fisted bloke like me. I'm really pleased with the results - same OTB sound, just a bit more controllable and bit more variety now. Thanks for the guide - I'd never have thought of doing it myself until I read this.
18.
Pete, they were never known for their tonal versatitlity That's part of the appeal for me, less tinkering when I found my sound.
Exactly the same for me. I spent years trying to find the amp sound I really liked, tinkering with amps and pedals. Eventually I found it in the OTB, and it may be a one trick pony, but it's a trick I like!

Sold

That's my old bass, and it is indeed a beaut. Proper "blokes" bass - solidly built, pretty weighty, with a lovely neck. Oh, and Krispn is a top bloke to deal with. I'm actually tempted to buy it back...
20.
The important question before comparing the 2 products is which Fender Precision?
This. I've owned loads of Fender Precisions over the years (probably 15), and my Lakland Bob Glaub was better than most them, including a 62 American Re-Issue. However, the 2 Fender P's I've got left are pretty much perfect, so there are great ones out there, and I've not tried the more recent Fender P's, which have a very good write up.
21. Has it got dot markings on the fingerboard? The pics on the Anderton's link show them, but I can't really tell from your pics. I'm after an acoustic for noodling around on - this looks nice.
22. I couldn't see a feedback thread for Stu, so thought I'd start one. He bought a set of La Bella's from me, paid instantly, and let me know when they arrived. The perfect sale! Thanks mate Mark.
23. Nice playing on all the clips - just proves that a good player can make a relatively humble bass (the MIM) sound great... My preference (I'm terrible at identifying different types of bass, let alone different vintages) is 2, 3, 1. I've no idea which is which. One things for certain, if 2 turns out to be the MIM, I'm straight off to to the classifieds to buy one
