1.
Horace was mine I have his brother up for sale soon but with a maple neck, still from 1973 though. again
First refusal please!
 2. I emailed the seller, and yep, it's the usual "it's in the Shetlands" line... Same old photos, and same old serial number. http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopi...=2&t=376613 What's the old line? If it seems too good to be true, it probably is....
 3. I had one of the Hofner Icon range, which I bought in the US for a good price. It was absolutely fine - not having played a "real" one, I couldn't tell you how it compared, but to my ears it certainly sounded the part, and it definitely looked the part, too. Just looked a bit like a toy on me, though (I'm 6ft 5 and 17 stone!). I flogged it to someone on BassChat - they could probably give you a better appraisal of it....
 4. Horace makes anything look cool...
 5. Yeah, I read an interview with Horace Panter, and he said he bought himself a Thunderbird as a 50th birthday present to himself. Sounds nice!
 6.
I spent a long time playing this bass last night and have just spent another half hour with it. Its just lovely and I'm really not sure I should sell it. So, much as I would like the cash, I am withdrawng the bass for sale for now and seeing how I get on with it. As I said in an earlier post, I have a history of falling for Jazzes and then re-considering after comparing with my Precision. However, this one is certainly the nicest Fender Jazz I have ever played and I want to be sure I am not making a big mistake by selling it.
I'll give it a week
 7.
Superb, and proof there's good music out there still to be had. Agreed on the great tone also, took an old 67' Hofner Club bass into the studio a while back with flats on it and it sounded so great on record. I like some modern basses, but there's nothing better than a cool hollowbody like a Hofner.
Thanks for the replies. I've now got terrible GAS for one of these! I've noticed that there's a Contemporary series Club bass for £450 or so.... wonder what that's like? :-)
 8. Love this track, and especially the bassline, however I'm not sure what the bass is. Could be a Hofner Club bass? You get a good look at it at 03:10. Awesome tone, IMHO.
 9.
160gb Hdd 2.4ghz dual core Processor 2gb Ram Had this around 2 years now I think, its performed perfectly, but I have no internet at mine and never use it now! Which may be surprising as I'm a network manager haha. It has the usual issue of 2 slithers of the plastic having split off at the front inside where the top bumper strips close down and another little bit at the top missing near that bumper, if you google it you'll see most do it. This has firewire unlike the new ones and I used this to record, have logic for sale separately. I will get better photos this weekend hopefully! Just bought it a new (used) genuine apple battery to replace the original which had just died With box and disks!. 435 quid.
Just one thing - I had the exact same problem with my MacBook, and mentioned it in the Apple store. They took it in (despite it being 2.5 years old and out of warranty) and replaced the case and the keyboard free of charge. I ended up with effectively a brand new machine.... might be worth a try.
 10.
I need something with a skinny neck and lightish - so i am thinking Jazz bass / aerodyne etc I am liking white basses and block inlays & definitely only 4 string beyond that as a newby like electrics I will no doubt try trade and try again until i find something that suits!
Hiya You might want to have a look at a Lakland Duck Dunn. It's basically a Precision with a Jazz neck on. I had one and sold it, cos the thin neck didn't work with my big hands, but they're lovely basses.
 11.
Go try a few old & new .....make up your own mind....its worth the effort
As everyone else said, try lots. I spent 20 years finding 2 precisions that I love (a '73 sunburst / rw, and a '75 black / maple) but I went through a lot more than that on the journey to find them. Don't automatically assume that everything from the '70s (can't comment on the 60s ones) will be great... I've played (and owned) some very ordinary Precisions from that era. Also, try a Lakland Bob Glaub. You can pick one up for £650 - £750, and they're bloody great.
If I had £1500 to spend in the current economic climate, in which a lot of people are being forced to offload vintage gear at low prices, I'd be looking out for a mid-late 70s Fender.
What Chris said... £1500 should get you something seriously nice in the current climate.
 12. Have a word with Mark at Bass Direct. When I last spoke to him, he with either just about to order some P basses from Nash, or had just done so.
 13. Just for info, my iRig despatched today, so it seems like Gear4Music has stock now. I should have it tomorrow - looking forward to it!
 14.
I have to say, I just died a little inside... it's my old bass and I loved it. What a shame... I hope the courier settles up soon!
Yeah, John and I have both been through the "died inside" phase, too.... it would have been absolutely perfect for me, and John was happy with the price he got for it. Fingers crossed on the insurance claim front.
 15. Gerry bought my Ibanez semi-acoustic, and due to it not having a case, he had to wait ages until I could get a family member to take it down to his neck of the woods. He was unfailingly patient, and a really nice guy to deal with. Tredders
 16. Absolute gent. I bought John's Bassix EUB, and unfortunately the courier trashed it on the way up to my place (no fault of John's - he packed it perfectly). As soon as I told John, he immediately refunded my money (even before speaking to the courier), apologised profusely, and even told me to keep the stand that was packed in with the bass for when I get a replacement. No fuss, no hassle, no argument, just a good guy whose main concern was making sure I got my money back and was happy. Top bloke - deal with total confidence.
 17. So, I bought OldSlappers Bassix EUB last week, and as agreed it was couriered up to me. It was delivered whilst I was at work, so I started it unpacking it as soon as I got in. It'd been really well packed in a Thomann EUB cardboard box, with double skinned cardboard inside, a ton of bubble wrap, further cardboard 'triangles' around the bass etc. Unfortunately, and despite all of the packaging, when I got the EUB out of the gigbag inside the box, there was a nasty crack running down the side of it - it'd obviously either been dropped or hoofed around enough during the journey to put a 10 inch crack down the side. I got in touch with John (OldSlapper) and sent some photos of the damage. John telephoned me straight away, immediately refunded my money (even before speaking to the courier), apologised profusely, and even told me to keep the stand that was packed in with the bass for when I get a replacement. No fuss, no hassle, no argument, just a good guy whose main concern was making sure I got my money back and was happy. John's now speaking to the courier regarding claiming on insurance, and fingers crossed a refund will be issued soon. So, even though I didn't get the EUB I wanted out of the deal, the whole experience has just reinforced that the vast majority of people on here are good guys. Tredders
 18. Another +1 from me. I bought a double bass DVD and it arrived nice & quick. Thanks!
 19.
Graham Maby. Respect.
+1 Saw Joe Jackson play live in Birmingham a couple of times. He opened one of the gigs with Right or Wrong, just him on piano and Graham Maby on bass. Fantastic!
 20.
I've got all those books except for the Neil Tarlton one, Mark. Plenty of scales for you to enjoy ^_^
I don't know why you're sounding so smug. You've got to sit and listen to me make a horrible noise with it!
