So, I ordered the iRig adaptor today...
tredders replied to tredders's topic in Accessories and Misc
Seems to be a shortage everywhere. I was in New York last week, and checked out a couple of stores online to see if I could pick one up over there. Even BestBuy was out of stock. It'd better be bloody good when it finally arrives! -
There are already a couple of threads about this, seems like people do have them but im still undecided about getting one (i have the free app already, and have brought the bass amp to go in it) or just using my Korg Pandora. Every time i go to order one from somewhere they seem to be out of stock and i dont order stuff with a guesstimated delivery time these days. In fact i was looking this morning or G4M's website but it said estimated delivery was on 7th sept. Cant see why it should take that long. Let me know how you like it. I know there have been volume level issues with some units.
Funny you should mention the guestimated delivery times... Gear4Music sent me an order update email last night, which I thought was going to be a despatch notification. In actual fact, it was a "your delivery date has changed" notification.... it's now being delivered on the 9th Sept. Hmm..... -
So, I just bought Oldslappers Bassix EUB (this one here), and luckily my bass teacher (Steve Amadeo) also plays upright, so I'll extend my lessons accordingly. However, I've only recently tried an upright, and don't have much of a clue, so was wondering if anyone could give me recommendations as to a good book or DVD for a newcomer? I'm obviously not expecting the book / DVD to replace lessons, but it would be nice to have some basic idea when the EUB arrives. Ta Tredders

This is just gathering dust (from my phase of wanting to play around with effects, before rapidly realising that volume and tone is all I want!), so I'd like to move it on. I think you all know the blurb, but I've cut & pasted a few highlights below: - "Included are over 50 stompbox, synth, and studio effects, 28 bass amp models, plus 22 cab and 4 mic models. With its rugged steel construction, Bass PODxt Live™ is ready to take years of real world gig abuse. Whether you use it as the ultimate multi-effect pedal, a direct recording miracle, a powerhouse preamp, a practice partner, or a creative digital signal processing tool, we think you'll agree that Bass PODxt Live is about the most amazing thing to happen to the electric bass since, well, since the bass amplifier itself! " All of the info, including sound clips & details of the effects and amps modelled are shown here It's a couple of years old, but has never left the house, and has only been used sparingly. It all works perfectly, there are no issues with it, and it comes with the manual and power supply in the original box. Couple of pics (excuse the dust on the foot pedal!): - From looking on eBay, the last 2 that sold (on the 17th and 30th of August) went for £180 and £182. I'm looking for £100 + postage (which is likely to be around £15). Or you can come and collect from just off j.12 of the M40 and pay £100! Any questions, just ask. Cheers Tredders

I finally found somewhere with the iRig in stock today (Gear4Music) and ordered it. Should be here on Thursday, so I was wondering if anyone here has experience with one? From looking at the comparison between the free/LE/full version, the bass amp only comes with the full version, so I guess I'll be replacing my free version with the paid one. Looking forward to having a play with this - the demo videos look very impressive. Tredders

Yep, they get to you like that. You just know it's going to always be with you, like an itch you can't scratch until you buy one, too
in my experiance theyre great for a few weeks. but after having to spend ages setting up all the dials right got abit teedius for me. played nicely though, looked rather cool. THe active preamp was ok, the 2 band eq was quite tricky for me to use.
What he said. I loved the look of my Jag, but got completely hacked off trying to get a good tone out of it. I'm a tone / volume kind of bloke, so maybe the Jag (with its multiple switches, controls and knobs) wasn't for me. I did like the neck on it, though - nice and slim and fast. I'm quite tempted by the VM Jag, though. Seems as though it potentially has the looks of the Jag, but without the complicated (to me!) electronics.

Col - thanks for that. Sounds like the Fender is the way to go. I'll get looking! BurritoBass - I could only see one for sale on here, and it was Old Horse Murphy's, which is now sold. Searching the forum didn't bring up the other one - can you send me a link please? Ta. Cheers both Tredders

Despite being relatively GAS free at the moment, I've got a hankering for a Mike Dirnt bass. I missed out on one for sale recently, and as you don't often see them second hand, thought I'd look around for a new one. Thormann are doing the "proper" Fenders for about £550, but I've noticed that the Squier models are a fraction of the cost - £215. From reading up on both models, the main difference seems to be that the Fender has a Badass II, a custom 59 PUP and vintage tuners. With that in mind, surely I'd be better off buying a Squier and pimping it up a bit? Or am I missing something? Having never owned or played a Squier, I've got no idea of the quality of them, so any advice would be appreciated. Anyone got experience of these? For info, I'd be using it for typical Greenday type songs, so I'm not too interested in versatility - it'll just be used to bang out punky cover versions on! Cheers Tredders
Gents, I have an update: Si's funeral will be at Canford Crematorium, Canford Lane, Westbury On Trym, Bristol BS9 3PQ at 12 noon on Wednesday 1st September and afterwards at his sister's house -- PM me if you want the address. I am told that friends are welcome both at the service and the wake. Let me know if you intend to come along. It would be good to see you, and to get together and raise a BC glass to the old fella. Awaiting details for a charity for any donations in memory of Si.
At 12 noon next Wednesday, I'll be in the air on the way to New York, so unfortunately won't be able to attend. Last email I had from Si said "don't spent too much in the guitar shops over there, but I know that'll fall on deaf ears". I will most definitely be raising a glass in Si's honour at 12:00. I hope it's a good send off for him.
i was quite surprised with how well it played and how good it sounds. obvisouly im still in the process of setting it up and modding it. needs new strings but im a poor student so might have to play the ones on it for a while. just did the truss rod last night. that was the first time ive did that ever thankfully the bass is still in one piece.
There are a couple of really good Lakland Youtube vids about setting up your bass. Might be worth a look? Welcome! A word of advice - lock away your credit card right now, otherwise you'll soon find the Buy & Sell section, and it's a slippery slope from then on! You'll discover things you didn't even know you needed! Oh, and remember, a cheap bass played well always sounds better than an expensive bass played badly. I know - I fall into the latter category Tredders

Yes, that's a cracking price, assuming everything is genuine and as it should be. Edit: Beaten to it by BurritoBass!

I've been absolutely gutted by this news since I heard this morning, and don't mind saying that I shed a tear reading Rich's post above. I first met Si a couple of years ago (one of a series of sales between the two of us, which became a standing joke), and after about 10 minutes felt like I'd known him all my life - he had that effect on you. He was just such a lovely, funny, generous bloke. Last spoke to him a couple of weeks ago, and we were joking about what I was going to buy off him next. I can't imagine what his family and close friends are going through at the moment. I know it's very early at the moment, but I'd appreciate details of a collection for flowers or donations. Si, God bless you mate.

That's bloody lovely! I want..... Where did you find the info?
Anyone on here own a Nash bass? How do they compare against the Fender Road Worn? Do they justify the price? General thoughts? Sorry for all the questions! Just being nosey! lol Thanks!
Clarky's got a beautiful Nash Jazz that I played in Bass Direct. Personally, I love them - I love the look, I love the way they play, and I love the way they sound. I think you'll find divided opinions on the whole 'relic' topic though! For info, the last time I spoke to Mark @ Bass Direct, he was getting 4 Nash P basses into stock...

I'm totally with Lozz on this one (we must have had the same taste in music, mate - Jam, Clash, Pistols!) - Foxton was the reason I ever picked up a bass in the first place. Love his basslines and playing, and still find myself playing old Jam songs when I pick up the bass. However, over the last 18 months, I've rediscovered the Specials, and absolutely love Horace's playing. I knew all the songs already (all of the Too Much Too Young era songs remind me of school discos), but never really listened to the basslines. Genius. Really opened my eyes to a different style of playing. And if you've not read it, Horace's book, Ska'd For Life, is a really good read.
