Here are the two I'll never sell: - The black / maple is a '76, and the Sunburst / rosewood is a '73. Both lovely and both very different.
Hey, Does anyone have a basstab for the Aynsley Lister Band - Soundman? I cant seem to dredge one up! I might have to work it out!!!!
Have a word with Steve Amadeo - he played and toured with Aynsley a while back....
Lovely collection you have there
Thanks mate. It's taken me about 20 years (and at least 20 basses!) to find ones I really love, which are basically the 2 P basses. Can't see me ever selling those.
Cool! How does the Lakland compare to the Fenders youve owned/played?
I love the BG! Great neck, well put together and well setup straight out of the box (although I have to say that it seems as though there are a number of people on here unhappy with the quality of their Laklands). Mine has the Hanson pup in it, and sounds and feels just like a great Precision. Sure, it's not as "nice" as one of the two "real" vintage P's, but equally it was a fraction of their cost! With the exception of the 2 Fenders in the pics, it's the best P bass I've owned - better than a '77 I owned years ago, & better than a '98 US P I sold on here last year. I've not played one of the new 2010 Fender P's, but have only read great things about them, but I've owned and played some right dogs in my time. The BG just seems comfortable, familiar and consistent (although other peoples experiences differ).
yep, it does although I should add that, wonderful that this bass is, it will soon have a new owner (as part of a trade for a genuinely unique and stunning bass I have coveted; details later this week)
Bloody hell, Clarky - I thought it was true love this time.... That Nash is lovely - I played it in BassDirect, so the incoming must be something a bit special. Look forward to hearing about the new addition...

Thought it was about time I uploaded a few pics of the current crop. From left to right, Ibanez ASB 140 fitted with a Hammon engineering Darkstar pickup and flats. Surprisingly weighty bass, and the Darkstar gives it a real 60's / 70's thump. Next up is Bruce - '76 Precision in black / maple, all original with the exception of the nut. Absolute beast of a bass, very clanky with extremely powerful (original) pups in it, which do that Foxton / JJB sound perfectly. Then we have Horace - '73 Precision in classic burst / rosewood. This is the latest addition to the family, and is in amazing condition for its age, with only the rear top horn showing any wear. Even has the original foam mute under the bridge cover. All original except for a replaced pot. Lovely B neck profile on this one, and classic Jamerson tone (when someone with any ability plays it). Strung with TIs at the moment. Oh, and for the eagle eyed amongst you, I know the ashtrays are held on with non-original screws - I only popped them on to take the photos. Finally, on the right is my Bob Glaub. Amazing bass for the money - lovely neck profile, very easy to play, and great sounding - sounds more like a Precision than most Precisions I've owned. Also strung with TIs, and I'm sorely tempted to pick up another BG and leave it with rounds on, to save taking the vintage P's to less salubrious gigs....! Shameless pic of the 2 basses I will never sell! Don'tcha think they look good together? Cheers Tredders
Costello - Pump It Up
Great bassline - just learnt that myself. Currently learning Millionaire Waltz by Queen - nice party piece when played at full speed. Edit: Looks like this bloke's nailed it.

That's great information right there, GW. Thanks for taking the time to reply in such detail - appreciate it. I've ordered the CIJ '51 brand new for £499 (which was significantly cheaper than anywhere else I could find it), so I'm looking forward to that arriving this week. From reading what everyone has put (both here and on a couple of other review sites I found), there are some popular mods to this particular model, but I think I'll leave it pretty much stock at first and see how I get on from there. If needed, I'll fit a new bridge and (probably) a Lollar pup in there, but I'll give it a blast for a month first and see what it's like straight out of the box. If it needs it, I'll get it setup by Peter Allen, and shielded if necessary, though. My CIJ Jazz was noisy as hell when I got it, but that was soon sorted out with proper shielding. Loving the cow print Jazz, BTW - very cool!
You`ll be happy with your choice, Tredders. I have the same bass and its great, with its own character. I actually sold it to a mate, instantly regretted it, so after a while, swapped a more expensive Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass to get it back. In fact, its the only musical instrument I`ve ever regretted selling, out of a significant number, which I believe is an indicator of how highly I rate these basses.
Thanks Lozz - looking forward to getting it now. Did you end up changing anything on yours? I'll (obviously!) put flats on it, but some more popular mods seem to be swapping out the pup, changing the bridge and replacing the pickguard with a 3ply. I'll wait and see what it sounds like stock, but wondered if you'd made any changes to yours? Cheers
I played the Squier recently - it was superb, so good I snagged this recently (CIJ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvc9C2wRCZg (old roundwounds) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9VtrYoRvd0 (new Fender flats + foam mute) The CIJ has a classier finish and hardware, but no real difference. The stock pickup isn't to my taste - I prefer more bottom octave - it's easy to add on an EQ, though. Get any except the Sting model with the signature slab at the 12th fret. It's just a big bowl of wrong.
Dammit, I was all set to buy the Squire until I saw your Youtube clips! Just ordered a butterscotch CIJ 51 for £499 brand new, which seemed like a great price. Should be with me next week. Cheers (I think!) for the advice.... Tredders

For a while now I've been GASing for a 51 P bass (not helped by watching lots of old Specials videos with Horace playing an old Telecaster bass). I've never played one, and I'm not sure if the non-contoured body or chunky neck will suit me, but as ever, I have little enough common sense for this to stop me buying one... So, my question is this.... would I be better off getting a CIJ one (which seem to go for about £450 - £500), or buying a Squire Vintage Modified TB for around £230-ish, which leaves me a fair chunk of cash to pimp it up if required. Is there that much of a difference between the two? I admit to being a bit of a label snob, so normally the Squire logo would put me off (pathetic, I know) but I've only read great things about these latest VM models. Anyone played both? Or even better, got one for sale Cheers Tredders
Weeks old for a big saving (more than £200) on new. RAWWWKKKKK machine par excellence (as long as you like Jazz-type necks, that is) Not just rock though - ska credibility too as Horace from The Specials plays one now:
Just when I thought I was over this, you put the Horace pics up...

Stupid question time - I've just got hold of a tort pickguard for my Bob Glaub, and came to fit it earlier. However, the volume and tone knobs aren't the usual Fender flat head screwdriver, and I couldn't see what they are. Rather than do my usual trick of blindly stripping a screw head or forcing the knob off (ooer missus), I thought I'd ask what I actually need to do the job properly! Anyone help? Ta.

TecAmp Puma 210 Combo ) = SOLD !!!!!!!
tredders replied to eubassix's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Modern, clear tone. I've found it great, but don't play with a lot of volume or bottom. Tecamp do a range of cabs that will combine (+other 8ohm cabs would also be OK). There have been a few for-sale/sold here on BC. I would think a 12 or 15 would work best. There's also a lot of comment on the Tecamp units throughout the various Cab(s) sections.
I own the 212 version of this and absolutely love it. You can get everything from very clean hi-f&i sounds right through to old school Motown thump just by using the (oddly named) 'colour' dial. I literally leave everything flat on mine, and just use colour to get the sounds i want. Best amp I've ever owned by a considerable margin... -

Well, I couldn't see a feedback thread for Phsycoandy, so thought I'd start one up. The guy's a diamond! I've just bought his 1973 Precision, and due to the 3.5 hour journey between the two of us, I bought it without trying it first. It's just arrived and it's exactly as it was described - it looks, plays and sounds fantastic, so I'm extremely pleased. Andy packed it up safely and securely, and kept in touch throughout the whole deal. Very very happy with the bass, and Andy's definitely a highly recommended seller and one of the good guys! Cheers mate! Tredders

Sold my Lakland Duck Dunn to John, and it was a nice easy hassle free transaction. John kept in touch throughout, paid instantly, and let me know when it had arrived safely. Couldn't ask for anything else. Excellent guy to do business with, and is highly recommended.

I was on the lookout for a thumb rest for my CIJ Precision, and Tim offered to send me one, in return for a small donation to Bass Chat. Really nice thing to do, and the thumb rest arrived quickly. Thanks Tim!
