1. Back in the days of Musical Exchanges in Birmingham, a chap was part ex-ing an early 60's Hofner President against something more modern. M.E. were offering him £125 for it, so I offered £150 and walked out with it. eBayed it a couple of years later for £700... I do have a problem with buying stuff from BassChat and selling it back to BassChat for a profit, though. I'm not knocking anyone who does this, but I don't feel comfortable with selling it back for more than I paid for it. Is that just me? Outside of BassChat, everyone is fair game for my profiteering though!
  2.
I just got this Nash from BassDirect, arrived yesterday http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...sh_63_Jazz.html
I played that in BassDirect a couple of weeks ago. The neck's not at all like a typical Jazz, is it? It's a beauty...
  3.
Yeah that's the one. med red plate with fingerpull holes. I think you put a fingerpull on, didn't you Mark? Gets in the way a bit if you do any of that newfangled popping stuff but looks the business
I just laughed at the thought of me playing pipping stuff! Roots & fifths, Si, roots & fifths!
  4.
parcel2go has a limit of 500 i used interparcel to get the 750 i needed for a recent consignment
I've just contacted Parcel2go (via their Live Chat) to get a quote for collection of a bass and a combo, and was told: - "Unfortunately we can only cover items up to the value of £1000. Unfortunately for guitars, we can only offer cover up to £150 for damage" So, beware if you're thinking of using Parcel2go for any bass worth more than £150....
  5.
hmmmm....that's lovely. is that one of the CIJ's as well. i've been thinking about a p-bass recently.
I think that's my old one. It was a CIJ and was lovely. Sold it last Sunday to a nice chap on here for £450, only because I'm in the process of buying a '73 P bass in the same colours. I got it from OldGit - he has some nice stuff.
  6.
"Japs" are great, but you can't compare them to US Vintage series. The difference between japan '62 and us vintage '62 is like difference between fender mexican standard and american standard, as I said - cheaper are great, but US are superior. REMEMBER - You always get what you pay for!
That's not the case in my experience. The US 62 RI I had wasn't great... the neck and intonation were terrible when I received it, and my luthier said that it wasn't any better put together than regular Fenders. Conversely, the 2 CIJ models I've had have been great. Maybe I just had a bad one, or maybe it was down to expectation (I expected a £1500 bass to be quite special, whereas I've only ever been pleasantly surprised by the CIJ models). The only real difference between the US and CIJ '62's I've owned were the finish - the US had a nitrous finish. and was a nicer lump of wood.
  7.
+1 on all of the positive comments, however the Interest Free is on 'quality' instruments not on amps etc, shame or else I'd have walked away with a tonnage of Genz Benz gear. If you're buying a higher end bass, game on!!!
It might be worth speaking to Mark about that....
  8.
If you can find one, I'd be the first of many to suggest you seek out a Fender 'non-export' CIJ 62 P bass if you are particularly looking to save some pennies! Unfortunately now that Japan has had it's knuckles rapped, it's harder to get hold of new ones - but second hand ones come up on the forum every now and then. Indeed, I have a 70's US Vintage reissue P Bass of the 'non export' variety and it was about 500 quid to import about..well.. 3 years ago now. Big difference in the price of the US sort.
What Dood said. Have a word with Si (OldGit) - I've bought a couple of CIJ 62 Reissues from him for good money, and they're excellent basses. He often has a couple of nice CIJ basses for sale.
  9.
Get thee behind me, satan! Cheers, Rob
Yeah, and Clarky's just said that Mark's stocking Nash basses now. This is going to end in tears...
  10. I love BassDirect. Reminds me of the good old guitar shops of my youth. You only have to look at the other threads on here to see how wrong most / many other guitar shops get it, but Mark's at the other extreme. You can go in, try any of the lovely basses or amps on show, and speak to someone who is clearly passionate about what he does. Oh, and dangerously, he's introduces a 12 month interest free credit scheme.... Oh dear.
  11. Couldn't see a thread for Shaun (Lojo), so thought I'd start one. He just bought my CIJ '62 Reissue Precision from me, and drove up all the way from Surrey to meet me close to my place. Really nice guy, lots of friendly PMs whilst we were discussing the deal, and paid cash. Would happily deal with Shaun again - people like him are the reason I love BassChat so much. Enjoy the bass mate! Mark.
  12.
Bloody hell that was quick. What's the incoming one?
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...pid=844562
  13.
Apologies to all those who contacted me with trades etc but this is now sold pending payment. Thanks.
Come to Daddy
  14.
How long is "a while" on planet Tredders then?
Oh, a good week or so at current rates. Anyway, both are now sold. I've now sold 3 to raise the money for the next incoming... If this one comes off, expect lots of pics in the Gear Porn forum
  15.
Mark! Goodness you are the bass owning equivalent of Perter Stringfellow. Just hang on to one for a bit and develop a deeper relationship will you? Is that three or four of mine you've had now?
Si, it's like a disease. Just when i think I'm sorted, something else comes along, and since my strict 3-basses-only rule rapidly became a not-so-strict-7-basses-rule, i figured i needed to thin some out Anyway, the next one that I've got my eye on will definitely, honestly, really be the last one i buy for a while. Possibly. Ahem.
  16. PMs responded to. Thanks for the comments, chaps. Tenners are in the post to you
  17. As a previous owner of this bass, I can confirm that it's a real beauty. Easily the nicest looking and sounding Jazz I've heard, and Seb's a top bloke to deal with. You won't regret buying this one!
  18. Both basses are now sold, pending payment. Could have sold them 3 times over - I knew i should have asked for more Hi all Couple for sale in an attempt to raise funds for a vintage P bass.... First up is a 2007 Lakland Duck Dunn (Skyline). I'd been after one for ages, figuring that it'd be my perfect bass; the combination of P bass tone and Jazz neck would be absolutely perfect. However, after owning it for 2 weeks, I've come to the conclusion that I actually prefer my Bob Glaub - go figure! This is immaculate, not a scratch on it, and comes with the Levys Lakland padded bag. It plays like a dream, and sounds just like you'd expect it to (there's a load of sound clips on Lakland's website here.). I've just put a set of new D'Addario chrome flats on it for that typical Duck Dunn sound. This one has the Hanson pickups, and is fitted with black Dunlop locking strap nuts on - I'll include the strap parts with the bass. I got it for a good price, but I'm not looking to make any money on it - just to recoup what I spent, so it's up for £630 plus the actual cost of shipping. You can come and collect it from near to j.12 of the M40, or I might be able to meet up, depending on location. Hell, this might even become a collector's item since the Lakland takeover / sale Second up is a CIJ Japan-only '62 Precision Re-Issue. It's a 2002 model in Jamerson colours, and I've recently fitted a vintage thumb rest to complete the look. I've recently had this professionally setup to a medium action, and have also put D'Addario chrome flats on this one, too, so it's got that typical Motown sound to it. It's got a few dinks on it, and I've deliberately photographed these in detail to show them off. They're on the back edge of the bass (about in line with the jack socket) so they're not noticeable from the front, but I wanted highlight them anyway. Having owned this bass and also the £1500 American '62 Re-Issue, I can tell you that there's not a massive amount of difference between the two I've owned (apart from the price!). You can see why Fender kept these for Japanese markets only! I've only had this for a month, and again it's suffering from underuse due to my current Bob Glaub love-in (does that sound wrong?!?). Again, I got this for a decent price, but I'm just looking to recover my money on it. Bearing in mind that I just spent £65 on a pro setup and new set of flats, I'm looking for £450 for this, plus actual cost of shipping. Again, you can come and collect it from near to j.12 of the M40, or I might be able to meet up, depending on location. Any questions, fire away. I'm flying to Germany later on today for a meeting, so may be offline until late tonight, but will respond to any questions then. Cheers Tredders
  19.
Any idea how much they want for it? I can't see it listed on the PMT web site. And OTPJ Krappy have already been mentioned at least twice on the first page of this thread.
I didn't notice, to be honest. If it's in line with their other bass stuff, probably well over the odds!
  20.
PMT in Brum currently have the Sandberg 2 string.
Yup, it was still there last Monday when I popped in.
  21. Sold my 75 RI Jazz to Seb. Really nice guy - we exchanged PMs and then spoke on the phone to do the deal. Seb even booked the courier and kept in touch via text. Nice easy sale, and one of the good guys. Enjoy it Seb - hope it gigs well tonight! Mark
  22.
Sold to the lovely man in Warwickshire. Cheers Mark.
And I'm absolutely loving it, Dave! Thanks again - great bass, great seller
  23. Just bought a Lakland Duck Dunn from Dave, and it's been a great experience from the start. Lots of friendly communication, quick delivery, and the bass is absolutely immaculate. Top bloke - would happily deal with Dave again. Cheers mate! Mark.
  24. Musicman20, did you get sorted in the end? Reason I ask is that I have a spare Comfort Strapppppppppp that you could have a try of. If you like it, we can sort a price out. If not, just send it back, but at least you'll have an idea as to what they're like. I personally love 'em!
  25.
Definately look into the Lakland Skyline series. In my opinion they are the best for Fender style basses, for playability, sound and quality (and i work for a Fender dealer!)
Have to say that my favourite Precision is my Bob Glaub, too. I've got a Duck Dunn incoming (can't wait!), too, based upon the quality and playability of the Bob Glaub. The thing that did it for me (and maybe I was just lucky) is that the 3 Bob Glaub's I've played have been almost identical in quality and tone. I wish I could say that about all of the Fender's I've owned....
