1. What everyone else has said. Si is a proper gent, and I've dealt with him on several basses. Every time has been a pleasure, and he's a thoroughly nice bloke to chat to as well. Such is my faith in the man, I think I bought my last P bass from him before I'd received any photos or details! It was a case of "I've got a '62 Jamerson that you'll love". I bought it on Si's recommendation, a day later it was with me, and it's a fantastic bass. Thanks mate
2. Now sold. Faceman has a new bass Thanks for all the interest and apologies to the other potential buyers who just missed out.
3. Unfortunately, my buyer for this has also pulled out... not having a lot of luck at the moment! Anyway, second time lucky: - I'm looking to sell my CIJ '75 Re-issue Jazz. I bought it a couple of years ago from John at Far East Guitars, and it's a beaut. Immaculate and sounds exactly as you'd expect a Jazz to sound - nice, warm and fat right up to slapping delight! It's been professionally setup (by Peter Allen), has brand new TI flats fitted today, and also had additional shielding fitted at the time of the setup (CIJ '75's seem a bit noisy as standard). Comes with a Fender strap and gigbag. These seem to be around £700 from Far East now, and the strings and setup cost me another £120, so I'm looking for £550 collected from the Warwickshire area. However, I do travel a fair bit with work, so may be able to meet up elsewhere. If you want the bass shipped, it will be done at cost. I'd trade for a Lakland DD or "nice" P bass, with £££ coming from me. Any questions please ask Mark.
4. Still available. As per the original post, this doesn't have a case, so will need a meetup. Therefore I can't ship abroad
5.
You passing by Kent anytime soon?
I'm in Tilbury next Wednesday (5th) if that helps?
6.
Even I'm tempted !!! :brow:
You know it makes sense.... I'll take the DD, you take this and a wad of cash
7. Unfortunately, my buyer's had to pull out of this one, so it's up for grabs again... I'm selling my lovely Ibanez ASB 140 semi-acoustic I bought from Steve Norris on here. He imported it (they're not available in the UK), and fitted it with a Hammon engineering Darkstar pickup (see here for info on Hammond).. It's in great condition & is fitted with flats for that huge authentic vintage tone. Fantastic looking and sounding bass, but I simply don't play it. Hope Steve doesn't mind me using his pics for this. The Ibanez doesn't have a case, so it'll need a meet up. I'm just off junction 12 of the M40, but travel a fair bit with work (actually, way too much at the moment!), so it's possible we could meet up. £250 collected for this one (It's worth more, but I bought it from Steve for £250 so will sell it on to fellow BC-ers for the same amount). From a trade point of view, I'd be interested in a Lakland Duck Dunn. Or a nice Precision, both with me adding £££ for the right bass. Any questions, just let me know. Cheers, Mark.
8.
Cheers guys, food for thought I really want this bass, can afford it and would keep it forever ........... However, as you say, it would be to nice and pricey to take to many places Which is why at present I only play my perfect mapleglo Ric in the church, and gig my MIM P in front of the party booze drinkers
You should definitely try a Jap '62... they're a fraction of the cost of the American versions, and are quality basses. If you're ever near j.12 of the M40 (between Leamington and Banbury), you're welcome to pop in and have a coffee and a play. I've got a '76 P bass (which is like a boat anchor!) to compare to...
9.
The new price on these 62RIs is massive, but they sound like the biss Anyone know if the Jap ones compare, new they seem to be equal to an MIA std P?
I had an American '62 RI a couple of months ago, and it was lovely. Beautifully put together, and massive sounding, although it needed a pro setup cos it left the factory setup like a dog! However, I flogged it after 6 weeks , as it was such a piece of art I was terrified of dinking it. With the nitrous finish, you only had to look at it, and it chipped! I'm not sure it was worth the £1500 list price, though... I missed it, and recently got a CIJ '62 RI from OldGit (cheers, Si!), and I have to say it compares really really well. From a body finish perspective, the US was a nicer piece of wood, but the Jap pleasantly surprised me - it's a nicer bass than a couple of mid-90's P basses I've owned in the past. If anything, I actually prefer the neck on the Jap, too. It's a bit slimmer than the US one, which suits me. I've used it at rehearsals and it does everything I want from a P bass - sounds nice, sits in the mix nicely, and does everything from the treble-cranked-up Greenday P bass sound, right through to the typical Jamerson fat Motown sound we all expect. Just need to find some ashtrays for it, and stick some LaBellas on and it'll be perfect....
10.
What a difference some decent strings make! I put some temporary new EB Slinky strings on the AV 62 Precision last week and they were not only too harsh, but had far too much tension as well. I received my DR FatBeams this morning and popped them on, did some slight adjustment of string height and the difference is astounding. I avoided the temptation to go 40-100 like on my Jazz and went for the 45-105 set. (Some of you will know well that DR strings are compression wound and feel a little softer than some other brands. DR 45's feel more like 40's and 40's feel more like 35's, etc.) The bass now has a massively rounded bottom end to the sound, but the same overall crystal-like clarity. Seriously impressed with this one!
Funny you should say that as I was going to go out and get some new strings for my '62 RI tomorrow. I was planning on flats (as usual) but keep reading good things about Fatbeams. What are they like? Are they low tension? I'm after a sort of traditional Motown sound.... Cheers Tredders
11. What everyone else said, really. I bought a Comfort Strapp from BassDirect, cos my '76 P bass is a bit of an anchor. Works really well.
12. What Clarky said. I'm GAS-ing horribly for a Nash 60's P bass right now...
13.
congrats, I really want a 3TS 62 (supposed it will have to be RI!) with flats, so nice to hear you where sold on one had you tried other 62RIs and not liked them as you state or was it other types of P, also was it new?
If you're in the market for a 3TS 62 RI, drop Simon (OldGit) a PM. He gets in Japan-only P basses for decent prices. I bought a gorgeous 3TS '62 from him last week, and can't tell the difference between it and the "real" US '62 RI I had last year. Well, apart from the price of course He might even have one for sale at the moment.... Cheers Tredders
14.
White 75 Jazz - paging Gareth/Musicman20!!!!!
I was just thinking the same thing... would go nicely with the matching Precision
15. Both now sold - thanks for all the interest Right, these two are criminally underplayed, so I'm going to move them on. Besides, after going to Bass Direct for the first time the other day, I've got terrible GAS for about 27 things at the moment! First up is my CIJ '75 Re-issue Jazz. I bought it a couple of years ago from John at Far East Guitars, and it's a beaut. Immaculate and sounds exactly as you'd expect a Jazz to sound - nice, warm and fat right up to slapping delight! It's been professionally setup (by Peter Allen), has TI flats fitted, and also had additional shielding fitted at the time of the setup (CIJ '75's seem a bit noisy as standard). Comes with a Fender strap and gigbag. These seem to be around £700 from Far East now, and the strings and setup cost me another £120, so I'm looking for £550 collected. Ibanez now sold = Also up for grabs is a lovely Ibanez ASB 140 semi-acoustic I bought from Steve Norris on here. He imported it (they're unavailable in the UK), and fitted it with a Hammon engineering Darkstar pickup (see here for info on Hammond).. Hope Steve doesn't mind me using his pics for this. However, the Ibanez doesn't have a case, so it'll need a meet up. I'm just off junction 12 of the M40, but travel a fair bit with work (actually, way too much at the moment!), so it's possible we could meet up. £250 collected for this one (It's worth more, but I bought it from Steve for £250 so will sell it on to fellow BC-ers for the same amount). 16. I'd be up for that. I went along to the W&T bash, but due to work commitments couldn't stay too long. Be good to meet a few more BC-ers.
17. I was just about to say that I'll be there (albeit very briefly, as I have to now drive to Glasgow tomorrow PM for an early Monday meeting, thanks to my flight being cancelled), but OldGit has beaten me to it. Bit of a shame to actually meet people from the forum in real life, as they'll find out that (a) I can't actually play like a genius combination of Jamerson / Entwistle / Bruce Foxton / Macca, and ( I don't actually look like Brad Pitt...
18. The new Birmingham venue for lessons is fantastic. Dangerously close to PMT music (just over the road), and the studio is great, so it makes a fab musical afternoon. Oh, and lots of free parking outside, too. Nice to crank the bass up to gig levels without worrying the neighbours as well!
19. I always use Peter Allen, just outside Warwick. Fantastic service. http://www.guitartechnicalservices.co.uk/
20. That does look really nice, doesn't it? Not much money either... £259 at GAK. Would make a nice cheap gigging bass.
21. Which model is it? This one.... or this one? VB-99 Cheers Mark.
