1.
still cant believe iv not had chance to get down there when i live about a mile away!!
Me neither, and I'm about 15 mins away. I need to remedy this real soon...
  2. Bought these recently from Old Man Murphy, with the intention of fitting them to my Stingray, but I've now traded it, so the strings are surplus to requirements now. OMM had used these for less than an hour, and I've not used them at all, so they're pretty much as new. Cut & pasted from the original ad: "TI Flats (43-100 gauge) 34" scale. Selling for £32.70 rom Stringbusters. Yours for £22 inc delivery." Looks like these have been cut for a 2+2 or 3+1 headstock, so will be fine for a Ric, Corvette, Stingray etc, but not for any 4+0 headstocks (i.e. Fenders). Cheers Mark.

  4. What everyone else has said really. Try a few out and see which you like best. There's a good comparison of a few different P basses here

Hi all Looking to move on my Stingray. It's a black & maple, 2004 model, with the 3 eq. It's in good nick, with the exception of a dink on the top of the headstock (shown in pics). It comes with the Musicman hard case, although this has a dent one corner (which doesn't affect the protection it gives). It's a lovely bass, and plays and sounds exactly as you'd expect it to, but I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that I'm a passive bass type of guy! I'm looking for £700 for this, collected from near j.12 of the M40 (nr Gaydon). I'll post at cost, and I also travel a fair bit with work, so could potentially arrange a meetup depending on where work takes me in the next couple of weeks. Tradewise, I'd be looking for a Lakland Duck Dunn or a P bass with a slim (Jazz style) neck. Any other questions, just ask Cheers Mark.
  7. Good choice - enjoy it! I got my CIJ 75 Jazz from John @ FarEast, too. Great bass and great bloke to deal with. Now, try it with some TI flats!
  8. Specials - Little Bitch. Working on my octaves, and this gives a nice workout!
  9.
Haha. I don't know who he is, but those are some tasty reggae lines.
That's Dave Marks, bass genius! www.davemarks.com. Contributor to BGM, and also on here. Or it's Wolverine, one or the other...
  10. I love that bassline! Sounds great to me. What's the setup for recording?
  11. Ok, I've made my mind up now. I'll have the '71 Rosewood please. Have it wrapped up and send to me as soon as possible. And what Silddx said above - good bassline holding down a song. You can keep your "bass-as-a-lead-instrument" noodling as far as I'm concerned.... people that do that are just frustrated guitard-wannabees

Right, having stuck some new strings on the Ray today, I've decided to hold onto it for the foreseeable future, so this is now withdrawn.
  13.
regarding Nash, not yet - I am hoping to show it to a potential buyer at the weekend. If I'm completely honest the Nash is every bit as good a bass as this old Fender, it just doesn't have that 'aspire factor' that comes - to me at least - with a true vintage Fender (in this case, one that has been around for nearly 40 years). I can see why Nash basses are so uniformly lauded on th'internet and played by the likes of Rob Trujillo. We'll see what the other BC'er thinks ...
Good, I hope it gets sold this weekend, cos it's giving me terrible GAS....

    Bump for the hat-wearing Stingray!
  15.
For the first time, I've just got 1 bass, having sold everything else a while back. I'm on the lookout for something to go alongside my Ric 4003.... Have checked out a new MIA jazz (priced around £800). I had a Geddy, but couldn't go with the neck, so this might be a compromise? However, I've noticed a few used Stingrays on the 'bay, for between £7-800. Active isn't normally my thing, but when they retail over a grand, I'm starting to think I'm missing out! This is the trouble - go with what you kind of know, or do something different! I do love the jazz, but it is a little......obvious. The Stingray has always intrigued me, I had a passive copy some years back. Any pros/cons for either side?
Where abouts are you? I've got a 75 Re-Issue Jazz and a 2004 Ray if you're anywhere near Warwick and wanted to try them out side by side.
  16.
I have found that if I have a completely mint instrument (especially an expensive one like my old Shuker JJB) I am so OCD about keeping it fresh and shiny that it actually takes away some of the enjoyment of owning and playing it as I become paranoid about damage. I guess this probably goes back to the pro musician versus dabbler/hobbyist thing, to some extent, as I think of basses as things of beauty and objects to desire. If I was gigging night after night I guess the condition of my basses (and my attitude) would be rather different.
I'm totally with Clarky on this one. In fact, I just sold a minty '62 re-issue P bass, because I held my breath every time I got it out of the case. Sold it, and just bought a well used one to replace it - now I'm much happier! The funny thing is, the basses I've bought brand new, I've been paranoid about marking. The ones I've bought 2nd hand, and have obviously been well played but looked after (and the fantastic '76 P bass I bought from Thunderthumbs is an example) I'm not that fussed if they get marked.
  17. Bought a set of TI flats from Nick. They arrived next day. Top bloke to deal with - cheers!
  18. Gary is an absolute legend! Just bought his CIJ '62 P bass, and it arrived the following day, meticulously packed, and actually in better condition than was described. Lots of friendly emails telling me when it had been posted etc, too. Fantastic bass. Fantastic seller. Hope to deal with you again in the future mate Mark.
  19. That's gorgeous Clarky. Did you sell the Nash in the end?
Hey dude. Would you take a Peavey T-40, Aria SB II Elite or Hot rod Fender P-bass in exchange with cash adjustment to suit (my way ofcourse)
Hi I think I'm just looking for cash or a Duck Dunn for this one. Thanks for the offer though. Mark.
