Nah, I'm still holding out for your JJB
You know you just need a picture of your US work of art and you can play this one without the museum archive gloves :)
That's too close to the truth to be funny!

Anyway, the '62 is back from the setup on Saturday, & will be freshly strung with TI flats, so I'm planning on giving it a good seeing to (oo-er) over the weekend and see how it plays.

  2.
Right... the gorgeous white Jap Jazz is on its way.

I'm far too excited for Thursday morning when the lovely DHL man brings me my new baby!

Impulse buying - gotta love it.

Shame that I've had to borrow £200 from the father, looks like I'm going to be working overtime to get him paid back. Or, I might sell my Squier Vintage Mod to one of you guys? Failing that, to eBay I shall venture!
Did you order the one from Far East then? Looks lovely in the pics.

  3.
After losing out on a MIJ (Salmon Pink) '62 Jazz Bass on eBay last night (probably to one of you evil people) due to being caught out by £1 in the last five seconds, I've decided I really need one in my life.

Would anyone be willing to sell one, or know anyone who wants to sell one, or even any local stores* that are selling one?

*Preferably NOT to be imported in from the US, or Far East - because I haven't yet got the balls and confidence to buy from abroad.

If anyone can help me with my new lust, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!!
I got my '75 CIJ Jazz from Far East Guitars. No hassle, no importing, sent from the UK. Just checked the website, and there's a nice white / tort one on there for £550 - '62 Reissue

  4.
As of today, an Oly White '75 Jazz RI.

    Just like this one...

Edited less than 10 minutes later to add...

Or maybe an Oly White Jaguar a la Barry Adamson. :)

    I'm so fickle...
All basses look great in Oly white! I'm pretty much GAS free after this weeks spending, but I'd love a Jetglo Ric, Shuker JJB or battered 60's P bass (like the one I've been whining on to FunkMunky to sell me for the last couple of months!).

  5.
The only place I know of is the Virgin Megastore in The Mall of the Emirates which stocks Yamaha instruments. Oh wait, there's also an instrument shop in Madinat. Everything is grossly overpriced though.
Yeah, that's the only one I could find when I was over there. Wasn't cheap, either...

  6.
Long live the Precision! Some fabulous bits of kit on here-Mark, your two are cracking, especially that '76 black/maple, which is just gorgeous. How is it for weight?
I've just stuck the '76 on the scales, and it weighs in at 9lbs, which is slightly lighter than the Jazz and 'Ray. Feels pretty substantial, but much lighter than the old 70's P bass I had.... that was like wearing a tree trunk!

  7.
Flippin 'eck you are a lucky chap! That Jazz is as nice as your Ps - I've never seen an Oly White 75RI and it looks great contrasted with the black s/p (the Jazz equivalent of the P I just sold to Gareth/MusicMan20)

    Any more you're hiding? :)
Thanks! I love the Oly White / black combo, too. Here's the last of the (current!) four I have: -

  8. Thanks for all the comments. Have to say, I'm well chuffed with both of them. I (almost) wish that the 62 was a bit mojo-d, since I hold my breath every time I get it out of the case. The 76 is great - already well used, but lovely neck and sound, and I won't be too worried if I dink it. They both sound very different...

Regarding some of the comments above, the flight case is indeed great - it's a Castle case (http://shop.castlecases.co.uk/index.php?cPath=35_113) and retails at £172.50, inc P&P. Before seeing this one, I wouldn't have considered spending that much on a case, but after seeing the quality of it, I'd heartily recommend it. Bloody heavy with the P bass in there, though...

And yes, I did polish them before taking the pics :). They won't stay that way for long, though.

Both are booked into Peter Allen's workshop (http://www.guitartechnicalservices.co.uk/) next Thursday for an MOT and setup, and I ordered some TI flats for the '62 today, so he'll fit those at the same time.

The most amazing thing is, I think I'm virtually GAS free now. Well, apart from a Jetglo Ric, and an EUB, oh, and if a "real" vintage P came up at the right price....

  9. Well, as I was saying in Part One, less than an hour after I'd made payment for the '62, I receive a PM from Thunderthumbs. He sent me a set of pics of his '76 Precision in black and maple! Agh - I'd just spent up all my spare cash on the '62!

Well, you can probably guess the rest :) This also arrived yesterday: -

Absolutely fantastic bass - can't tell you how happy I am with this. Sounds great - I've been hammering out Stranglers and Jam tunes on this since it arrived! Pete was a top bloke, too - delivered it to my door during his 650 mile bass-selling and buying tour of England yesterday!

  10. Well, I'd flogged a couple of basses on here, and had some serious GAS for a Precision. In my Wanted ad, I'd listed a number of basses, but the top two in the list were a US '62 Precision Re-issue, or a 70's Precision in black / maple. I'd been looking hard for a couple of months, and eventually saw a US '62 Re-issue on eBay. Contacted the seller, got lots of pics, and to cut a long story short, this arrived yesterday: -

Mmm, came with a nice Castle Cases flightcase - top quality bit of kit!

And inside was this beauty: -

It's a beauty - a 2009 model, with all of the case candy included (strap, lead, ashtray, tags etc). Even had the plastic cover on the scratchplate. It could do with a setup, but sounds massive, and I got it for what I consider to be a really good price. The finish is gorgeous - it's almost too nice to risk taking out of the case and playing. Almost!

Now here's the thing. Literally an hour after making the Paypal payment for the '62, I received a PM from Thunderthumbs on here.... Due to the limit on the number of pics I can post in a single message, you'll have to see Part Two for details :)

  11.
Well......got home just over an hour ago. What a very, very, very long day! Been on the road since 7.30am, and been driving for most of that. But.......it's been 1000% worth it.

Got her home and immediately played her (it must be a 'she' :)).

And what a dream to play. Just feels right straightaway.

Andy....I know how you feel. I also delivered my Warwick Thumb to joe_bass today, and I can't deny there was a little something inside me that was sad to see it go, as I've owned it for 18 years. But like I said at the time, it's not been used in anger for at least 2 years, so better to go to someone that'll give it the use it deserves.

Once again, thanks for making it easy for me. And I promise I'll look after her.

    Cheers,
    Pete.
Blimey Pete, you delivered my P bass this morning, and also the Warwick Thumb, and then picked this up? You must have racked up some miles today!
