1. Hi all Thinking of selling my P bass. It's a 1997/98 USA model, which I bought a couple of years ago from OldGit on here. It's butterscotch in colour (or "custard" as OG called it!), and has a rosewood fretboard. It's got a tort scratchplate on (with a small part which just bloody snapped off as I was unplugging it to take pics!). I've got the small snapped-off bit, as well as the original black scratchplate, too, which will be included. Last year, I got a SD Quarterpounders professionally fitted, which has provided a better range of sounds, and I've also got the original Fender ones, too, which will be included. Comes with a Fender hardcase, as shown in the pics. Oh, and I've just put some fresh Rotosound flats on it a week ago, too. One small issue is the marking at the back of the neck. I've taken a macro photo of this, to highlight it. It was like this when I bought it, and absolutely doesn't get in the way when playing, but I wanted to highlight it anyway. I'm thinking of listing this in the For Sale section (or trade against a vintage P Bass or something else "nice"), but I have absolutely no idea what it's worth. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Oh, and no "Hmm, it's worth about £50, I'll take it off your hands" type posts - I may look stupid, but I'm not quite that dumb. Well, maybe, but you know what I mean Cheers Mark. 2.
That sounds ideal, with a chance to try it out 1st
Yeah, but I think I *need* a proper vintage.... sigh
3.
I've played a 73 P for a short while. My 62 AV Re-Issue is truly a great P bass, others have said it's the best P they've played too. Personally I'd find a good AV in a shop and pay more. Sorry I can't offer a more direct comparison. Under a grand is good, is that including duty and VAT?
Thanks for the reply - I know it's always down to personal preference at the end of the day, but just wanted a general opinion... The grand is based upon me picking one up in the US. I'm supposed to be off there soon with work, and we also have a Christmas trip to Boston planned... Mark.
4.
bump in case anyone missed.
Still got this?
5. Hi I accept that there are good and bad examples of both 'real' vintage and brand new basses, but generally my question is this: - Since playing Funkmunky's beautiful '69/'70 P bass, I'm rapidly becoming obsessed with finding something very similar (or steal his, whichever's easiest ). My question is, how well do the new Vintage series P basses stack up against the real thing? I've been looking at the '62 re-issue, which I could get from the US for just under a grand. Is there a big difference? I know it's all down to personal preference, and it's probably a stupid question, but some thoughts from anyone who has played or owned both an old P bass and one of the new reissues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Mark.
6.
Great clip... thanks for posting it! What a nice man. I wish he was my uncle.
I was thinking the same.... that guy makes me want to go out and buy a Lakland
7. Thanks chaps. I been in GC before (albeit in Grand Rapids when I was there on business), and loved it. Came back with a set of pickups for me P bass and a Hofner Icon! Glad to see that there's one in Boston, too, so will make a trip into there. That Daddy's place looks great, too, but a little out of the way. I somehow doubt that Mrs Tredders will share my enthusiasm for traipsing around guitar shops....!
8. Wow, so many to chose from. Here's a random selection (from looking at the "Most Recently Played" section of my iTunes: - Rescue Me - Fontella Bass Son of a Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield Bernadette - Four Tops Eton Rifles / Funeral Pyre / Tubestation / Malice - The Jam (in fact, pretty much any Jam song!) Substitute / Won't Get Fooled Again / The Real Me - The Who La Femme d'Argent - Air Barbarism Begins At Home - Smiths Bed's Too Big Without You - Police Mark.
9.
Harmony Music is the only one that I know of S.P.
You git! I actually clicked on that then
10. We're off to Boston over Christmas and the New Year, and I thought it would be rude not to investigate what guitar shops are out there... might cure my Ric gas whilst I'm out there...! Anyone know of any? Stores with second hand stock would be particularly interesting. Edit: Just found this place... looks nice www.bostonguitar.com Cheers Mark.
11. I bought a comfort strapp with Dunlop straplocks on for my 'Ray a month or so ago. You don't really need both, and in reality, it's a bit of a struggle to get the straplocks onto the strap. I've since bought another comfort strapp for a different bass, and didn't bother getting straplocks, and the strap on its own seems secure enough... Mark.
12. Sorry - been away at short notice with work, so not had the chance to dig out the bits & pieces yet. I'll definitely do it over the weekend, though. Good news is it looks like I'll be in Farnborough on the 6th Oct, so if you're around, we can meet up then. Cheers Mark.
13.
Sounds pretty brilliant. Cheers! The aerospace business park is just around the corner from the college so thats pretty much perfect from that standpoint. Just let me know when you've had a look. Thanks again! Ben.
Cool - I'll dig everything out tomorrow and post a list. Got 2 or 3 guitar stands, too. Any good?
14.
Hey guys. Recently I started work at Farnborough College of Technology, at which i'm working as their audio technician responsible for radio, theatre and recording studio departments - just my kinda thing! Budget at the college is pretty tight (its a kind alternative college - one that offers many a second chance if they haven't the best grades from school, and has a nursery for if students are young and have kids...) and I was wondering if anyone in the area had any bits they could afford to donate to the school. The music tech department has only 3 amplifiers - a Roland Cube, Marshall MG30 and an old Torque PA/Bass/Keys type 20w combo. I've had to bodge some absolutely ancient monitors and desks into workable PA for each classroom, and we also only have 2 basses, 2 electric guitars and 2 drumkits - but with 20+ students in some of the classes its just a bit limited and is tough for the students to work around the supplied kit. If anyone is wondering 'is this legit - is this guy just being stingy and trying to con us out of kit' kinda thing - please contact me on my work account - [email protected] or on my work phone number:01252 405555 I think my office extension is 2276 - its MCA tech office. Not really sure what im expecting people to offer, really if anyone has any amps/pa that just about work/easily repairable... even if they sound awful... or workable basses/guitars/acoustics they don't need and aren't likely to profit from please get in contact. It'd be much appreciated. Cheers, Ben Jordan
I've got a few things that I could sort out. A small bass practice amp (Peavey I think - it's been in the loft for ages), and some effects pedals. I think I've also got a Boss bass multi-FX in the loft too. I'll take a look for it all tomorrow and let you know. We've got an office down in Farnborough (on the Aerospace park), and I'm generally down there at least once a month, so could easily meet up. Let me check what I've got and I'll get back to you tomorrow. Mark.
15.
Hi, I am selling my Comfort Strapp Pro Bass Extra Long. I only bought it back in June from bass direct but I have gone back to my old Fender strap. £17 which includes delivery.
I'll take this please - PM sent. Mark
16. I'm assuming that as you've not replied to the couple of PMs I've sent, and also the thread reply here, that you've either changed your mind about selling this, or you've sold it to someone else? Could you let me know either way please? Mark.
17. Do you mean that it comes with 4 strings on it, and 3 spare? Or just 3 on the bass?
18. Just bought a Korg Pandora from Floyd. Really quick sale and the Korg was exactly as described. Top bloke!
19. Rotosound Jazz bass flats - also cut for a P bass, less than an hours use. £12 I'll take these please. Let me know how much for postage. Cheers Mark.
20. Did you get sorted on this mate? If not, you looking to sell it? Cheers Mark.
21.
I have somebody who contacted me a week ago who definitely wants this amp, problem is we are both on holiday for another week. If he decides against it in the meantime , I'll give you a shout.
I think we're both back from holidays now - give me a shout and we can arrange a meet up? Sent you a PM. Cheers Mark.
