1. Yeah, I posted a similar story in another thread. Really good service, and a chap who is obviously very passionate about what he does. Interesting parallel with the 'experiences in Denmark Street' thread elsewhere...
Anyone?
I'm in the same boat as you - well impressed with the specs & demo, and I'm in the market for a headphone amp, so might have to order one of these. You seen any offers on them?
3. Hi I'm thinking of selling my Trace 7210 SMC. It's a superb combo - very loud, but I've not gigged for ages, and want to try and get hold of something smaller. Anyone got any idea as to the value of it? It's in really good condition, everything works perfectly, and it's never been gigged. Thanks in advance Mark.
4. Thanks for the suggestions. Both the MP-BT1 and Pandora look interesting... I'll start having a look round for comparisons.
5. Hi all Apologies if this has been covered in the past - I searched but couldn't find anything. Anyone got a recommendation for a headphone amp? I'm in the process of taking lessons from Steve (Funkmunky) and after realising how horrible my technique is (I've got 20 years of bad habits to unlearn!), it's back to regular practice sessions for me. So, I'm on the lookout for a headphone amp that I can plug my in-ears into and pootle about with. I'd prefer something portable, which is why I'm not going down the practice-amp-with-headphone-socket route. Anyone got any suggestions? Cheers Mark.
6. These look like the dogs... aren't they silly money though?
7.
I was just speaking to a friend of mine about this today. He's got a bit of cash to burn and often pops into the bass shops in London for a quick snoop when he is down there. As soon as I mentioned the Bass Cellar he seemed to sour slightly, and told me he'd been there before but was quickly put off by the fact that the staff didn't seem interested in entertaining him as a customer. And he's a bloke of nearly 40 with a smart look, basically a walking wallet, if they took the time to talk to him. But he likes good customer service, and obviously felt that this lot, who seemed "bored and disinterested" and seemed unwilling to engage in conversation, were not worth his timr or money. I really must go there to see this for myself.
I've read this thread with horror, mainly because it's been bloody years since I've been into a bricks & mortar guitar shop, and can remember the good old days of Musical Exchanges in Brum. When we were spotty teenagers, myself and my best mate used to get the bus into Birmingham, walk across town to M.E. and literally spend 5 or 6 hours in there, just trying different stuff out (me basses, him guitars). I always used to drool over a Jetglo Ric 4001 in there, and it got to the stage where the staff used to laugh and say "your Ric is at the end of the rack, Mark, ready for you" when we walked in. To cut a long story short, come our 17th birthdays, we both walked in. Mate bought a brand new Strat & Peavy amp, and I bought a Jetglo Ric. We'd saved for the best part of 12 months to raise the money to buy those guitars. Had we been badly treated, or told we couldn't try the instruments out, there's no way we'd have bought from them... On the positive side, I was in the market for a new strap, and called Bass Direct in Warwick. Ended up chatting away for 45 minutes to the owner (?) (really nice chap called Mark), about the stock in the shop, their amps, and music in general. He couldn't have been more helpful, to the extent of inviting me down on a Saturday (when they're normally shut) to check the place out. That's the kind of place I'll definitely be shopping at in future. Oh, and the strap and strap locks I ordered at 2PM last Friday arrived on the doorstep on Saturday morning - excellent service.
8. I was just thinking that - anyone got one of the Thomann ones? I could do with a new case...
9. After years of using leather straps, I ordered a Comfort Strapp yesterday, and it arrived today. I have to say that it's great! Seriously comfy and doesn't look terrible (which was my fear when I'd seen them on websites before).
10. After 20 years of playing, I'd like some formal tuition . I need to work on my speed, and wouldn't mind attempting to learn some more funky, slappy style playing. Happy for tuition at home, or I'll bring my bass along and travel (within reason). Anyone out there? Cheers Mark.
11.
neither was I mate. When I first got it I had wanted a sunburst stinger for 20 years. its a beautiful piece but redundant now unfortunately. had a number of enquiries but still for sale will get some new pics up either Thursday or Friday cheers Keir
You looking for any trades on this one? Mark.
12. Hi chaps I've got terrible GAS for the black 'Ray currently for sale, and unfortunately need to sell this to buy it. It's a lovely Hot Rod Red Jaguar in excellent condition, and is absolutely cool-as. See pics for evidence. It has a ton of sounds available - just check out the Fender website or Youtube for details. I might be nit-picking, but I've deliberately held the back of the bass up to the light in order to capture some very light swirlie scratches on the back. Under normal light you can't even see them (and they exist on all of my other basses, too), but I just wanted to be as accurate as possible in my description. Aside from that, it looks brand new. The bass is 3 years old, never gigged, and has actually never even left the house. The RRP on this bass is £699, but you can get them for £649 on the net. The last few advertised on here have been for £499 and £425. Instead of the usual haggling, I'm going to set the firm price on this to £400 collected or meet up, or £425 posted. I'd really prefer a meet up, as I don't have a case for this, and could do without the hassle of packaging it all up, and praying that the courier doesn't play cricket with it (as has happened in the past!). I live just off j.12 of the M40 (near Gaydon), but can easily get over the Birmingham if this is easier. I also travel a reasonable amount with work, and often go to the office in Farnborough, so there's definitely scope for a meet up. Any questions, just ask. Cheers Mark.
13. Looks like this is now sold - just making arrangements to meet up. Thanks everyone for your interest. Mark.
14.
PM'd...
Replied to your PM.
15.
Let's have a look at the pics of the bass and case then!
Here you go - excuse the crappy pics. I'll throw in all the dust you see in the pics for free, and yes, I know the table and bench need re-varnishing. The missus reminds me every weekend As you can see, it's absolutely as new. In fact, I just peeled off the plastic coating on the pickups. If I don't get my asking price for this (or a decent trade, and I'm happy to trade up with me adding cash for the right bass/amp/fx unit). I'll keep it and stick some flats on it. Any other questions, let me know. Cheers Mark.
16. I've had a bit of interest in this, but nothing firm just yet, so it's back up for the weekend.
17.
Is the icon series the american name for contemporary in the UK??
When I bought it in the States, the chap told me that the Icon was the US equivalent of the Contemporary.... Not sure if that was salesman talk, but from playing a Contemporary in a music shop in the UK, they looked and played identically.... 18.
PM'd
Replied Mickey.
19. I bought this during a business trip to the US late last year. One of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" impulse buys. Apart from getting it out of the (nice, fittted, extra cost!) hard case for about an hour, I've really never used this. It's a US-only model, but I've seen a couple of UK retailers advertising them as "1 of only 100 in the UK", so I guess they might be filtering through to the UK. I paid $429 plus $130 for the case at a time of really crappy exchange rates, typically. I'm asking £249 plus £20 towards courier costs for this. Or, if you're in the Warwick / Solihull / Farnborough area, we can probably meet up FOC. Pics are now in post 10 below! On the trade front, try me with anything remotely musical (or even, non musical!). Cheers Mark.
20.
That's an Epiphone ET-280, built by Matsumoku in Japan around 1975. This one looks like a great car boot find, it appears to be all original apart from missing a bridge cover, which is usual. These come up on Ebay every so often & probably would go for between £150 - £200 on there. I'd recommend leaving it stock - these are getting quite collectable & "upgrading" components (tempting as it might be) will adversely affect its future value. Jon.
Yeah, that's definitely the one. Just found the 1974 Epiphone catalogue online, and it's shown on there: - http://www.matsumoku.org/models/epiphone/c...s/1974/pg5.html Mark.
21. I've had one before, loved it, and regretted selling it ever since. KevB - cheers for the eBay link - I've not got a grand, but I've bookmarked it anyway. If I down enough beers just before I bid on it, it won't hurt as much!
