1. It is 10x the wattage, but loudness isn't measured in watts, otherwise I'd have a rather noisy kettle. Watts are not the deciding factor in volume, it's the cab & efficient drivers that make most of the difference. So look for high SPL levels & a good xmax.
2. Having the very MarkBass combo you're looking at, try one. They're not shy on lows & quite possibly the loudest of the combos (those B&C drivers have a lot of travel). Some folk find them a bit too clean sounding, but a sansamp or similar can easily change that. I tried dozens of rigs before getting mine.
3. Not rock by any measure, but there's Nerve (JoJo Mayer, John Davis & the Japanese guy). Ultraista are also a worthy listen.
4. John Davis (of Nerve) uses a Moog MF-101 (along with a few other pedals. You'll want an OC 2 or similar to get the sound started & some dirt after that). I know Shep's tried just about every LPF there is & was hoping to reduce the size of the pedals he uses, but hasn't found a replacement for the Moog. The Moog is fussy regarding power. I have it on its own wart & in some places I'll get a very low background noise (some places nothing). You don't hear it when playing live though. Yes it's not a cheap pedal & you then have to buy an expression pedal (or 2) to go with it, and it takes up a good bit of space, but there's nothing else that sounds like a model D filter.
5.
True. Can't remember the last time I wasn't playing DI into the desk myself, so really should have thought of that before posting. But my original point stands nonetheless. Do people in this thread really think that JPJ only uses TC equipment because they pay him to? FFS ...
That's a possibility. Given he'll have good monitoring, it won't make a jube to his sound if he uses TCE, Carlsbro or Kampera. A DI from before the back line & the sound engineer can make him sound how he wants to.
6. There's been countless times where someone has said "that's a classic xxxx tone", only for it to be something completely different. The sound of a bass varies greatly from where the tone & volumes are set, which pick ups are used & where they're set, what strings are on it (& how long they've been there), what amp & cab are being used, what the settings are on the amp & what the sound engineer/producer has done. And all this before any effects have been taken into account. Sounds like a Jazz to me too. Probably with a good EQ to get that lovely boom.
7.
Trace specified two 410 and two 115 plus a bright box to get the most out of their 600w offering. Monster! Great sounding but you'd need a transit van plus a roadie to move it! Compare that to todays market..
It makes me wonder if the person stating the required cabs to get the best from it was from sales or marketing.
8. It's the other way round. It's a 1/4" jack & a Speakon-1/4" combi. You can either daisychain the cabs or use both outs on the head. It makes no odds. Output? I guess you mean how loud it will be? The amount of decibels depends on the sensitivity of the cabs. 2 cabs will move more air than one, therefor two shall be louder.
9. Isn't all these watts subject to what the cab can do with them?
10. We used to cover White Rabbit in one of my old bands. As usual, I'll start on a composition. One of these might get completed!
11. It's a very mid boosted sound & it sounds like there may be slow chorus on it.
12.
so im thinking G n T with slimline is sugar free right?
Whisky (by the pint if you like). That way, if you spill it, it's going to clean things.
13. Good to hear all is fine. Now you need to get liking the non sugary beverages.
14.
.....it looked like the solution was to basically submerge it in alcohol as soon as possible......
I think that's what the problem was, although it was a weak alcohol. Could Special Brew be the fix?
15. Moog Bass Murf. The only pedals similar are the Moog Murf & Midi Murf. Mines reluctantly for sale, but I've not got it advertised on here yet & if you were to buy it before I get the ad up, I'd donate to BC to cover the ad (& there's still more ad's to come).
16.
+1 Articulates what I've been trying to say without being too offensive, thank you.

I like your qualification of the level of acceptable offense.
I don't offend easily as I know sometimes trying to say something that's meant to sound honest can be easily taken the wrong way. It's not music itself, it's how I engross myself with it that's the issue. I liken it to smoking only as the feeling of breaking away from a habit & how I feel a mix of freshness & sorrow. I know that I'm doing the right thing, but there's a part of me that feels sorrow that I'm missing out on something.
17. There's one thing to practice & get good at something & to ask God for help with it, but if the athlete is like me & spending all their time on that one thing & none on God, then that is putting my trust all in myself & none in God. Therefore that object is becoming an idol & taking the place of God. I might join a worship band in the future, that would depend on where I'm called to be.
18. It's not playing music that's the main issue, it's my relationship with it. Everything I do, I put music first. If I go to church I think about how the music/sound could be improved, when I go to bed I put music on, when I get spare time I play an instrument. This is put before anything else that should be on my list. It's not been a sudden or rash decision, I've spent a lot of time thinking about it. I searched for answers, mostly for answers to say "Yes, continue in the band" to put my mind at ease & let me just carry on, but everywhere I looked, I got the opposite. I scoured the web, I read my bible & still got the same. Me being selfish. It's not a vice like smoking, but it has become an addiction & to be addicted to something is to idolise it, to rely on it & to worship it. Once I've broken the addiction, then I'll consider going back to music. I may keep just my bass (pack it away somewhere), but not the rest of the gear. I know there's plenty of Christian musicians. There's a lot of good Christian bands & there's also a lot of good bands with Christian members, Fieldy from Korn, Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper (OK, I don't know any electronica Christians ).
19. I know many of you wont understand the reasons fully, but thanks for the encouraging words. After spending quite some time praying that I'm doing the right thing, I've found it's because music has always been an idol to me. One of the first things I do in the morning & last things I do at night is read about music & come on here (still doing it too!). Every spare minute if I'm not on here, I'm playing my bass or playing about with something related to music. It needs to be broken so that I have no idols. Once this has been done, then maybe music can be part of my life & not be idolised by me. Doing this has a strange feeling with it, very similar to when I quit smoking. I feel like I'm breaking free, but there's a part that is sad that the good parts shall be missed. It's not about the playing of an instrument, but my relationship with instruments. If I'm to be a musician, I'm sure it will be. I can always buy another bass/pedalboard/rig, I might come back to keys or to an instrument I've never played before like cello or sax. If it's my calling to praise God in worship songs, then most churches have their own instruments. Maybe God is just like the rest of you & hates it when I play a bit of slap bass & he's had enough.
20. OK, I know every year there's at least one post from someone saying "I'm giving up playing bass", & many probably do. So here's this year's one. I've been playing instruments since I was about 4. Started on keys, took up many instruments & settled on bass (still playing other instruments too from time to time) & I've played bass for 30 years now. But I've had a pressing on me. I'm a Christian. No big deal, plenty of Christian musicians. But over this past few weeks, I've been questioning what I'm doing. I prayed about it. I tried to find things that said what "I" wanted them to say so I could continue playing, but nothing has gotten rid of this feeling inside. Then today at work, just over the course of the day, I decided to call it a day. What's been most hard is that I'd joined an electronica band that has potential & are great fun. So if any of you are in range of Perth & looking to play electronica, there's an opening. I'll probably still kick around Basschat, but probably not on a daily (or hourly) basis. Gear soon to be for sale.
21. I'd say you're looking for more of an actual bass synth than dirt/filter/modulation combinations to get that sound, but playing with the fx on your unit should be good fun & you'll learn what they do to one another. Shep's blog is a good place to get references to what things do too. I like the bass sound. Not a bad song either. edited to change that to than.
22. Well done. Can't help but think of what the "25 ways to upgrade your strat" are? For most strat players I know, removing the strings would be 1st priority.
23. Fruit basket sounds good!
24.
BTW, you promised to commit seppuku (harakiri)! You promised!
I did.... I got better.
25.
HowieBass and others nailed it, I think. This bass part is the very essence of the whole song, IMNTHO, and without it, the song would be insufferable.
I'd rather listen to the isolated bas track from it for an entire day on repeat than listen to another 1:33 with the rest of the band!
