1. The LMII is a combo head (LMIII - combo head II). There's a few MarkBass amps of a similar size that you could use, or even some others fit (I've seen an Aguilar in the 2x10 combo). Edit to say, the only difference with the combo head is that it doesn't have a lid on top, so to use the LMII, you have to remove the lid (it's a flat plate on top, you don't remove the sides).
2. The smoking ban only relates to lit tobacco, so don't use tobacco in your smoke machine. Smoke machines don't set off alarms unless you use an extreme amount in a confined space. If you use a decent fluid, they have no smell or have any effect on people other than visual, though if the fluid has glycol in it, then it could affect some people with asthma. Fog or mist machines are usually the safest option. If a venue asks you not to use one & you really want to, then ask them the reasons why not. Google is your friend when it comes to finding out more. It's then down to which kind of smoke/fog/mist you make & what you use.
3.
Should I have opted for the 4 Ohms then, do you think? I didn't want to limit my expansion options when browsing!
Nope. The extra couple of DB from the 4 ohm version isn't worth heating your amp up for.
4. It should be plenty loud enough, but that depends on the efficiency of the cab & if your guitarists are musicians or muppets. Watts don't make decibels. If the 8 ohm version ain't loud enough, then the 4 ohm one wouldn't be either.
5.
Thanks for the advice Yeah think it's either the b3, or the boss limiter enhance, tuner and bass overdrive.
Try the pedals before buying. I made the mistake of thinking that I needed a compressor & whereas I used compression in the studio, never liked using a compressor pedal live.
6. Bump
7. The SR1000 has been my main bass for over 20 years & fitted in with everything I've played starting with metal, through various forms of rock, then to folk & jazz & finishing on a bit of electronica. Although I've given up playing bass, it's the only bit of gear that I'm not selling.
8. Best advice is to get a multi fx unit until you know what pedals you're gonna use. After you get used to which fx does what & what ones you like/need, it'll save you spending money on light up bricks.
9. I can package & have it delivered for £25.
10. Bump with a couple more pics...
11. I thought sails were triangle (or even square), not cone shaped.
12. Bump with a pic of the backplate.
13. Parallel gets my vote. I used my Bass Murf to split the signal. The good thing about the Murf is that it's splitting frequencies too, so if any fx are sucking lows, you can retain the lows on a channel. It makes a good overdrive too.
14.
...two speakers might cause more turbulence and shift more air than a single speaker with twice the travel. Maybe it won't reach as far but it will spread more.
Sounds political to me.
15.
The experts and pundits will rip into this, I don't doubt, but, for my tuppence-worth, I think it's the impedance change that gives the extra watts (and so volume...). It will only be really applicable to ss amps, as you intimate; valve amps won't give more power per se, but the better dispersion will give a better 'spread' of the spl generated. An ss amp rated at 200w into 8 ohm, and 350w into 4 ohm will be able to get louder with 2 x 8 ohm cabs (and so 350w...) compared to with only one (with only 200w available...). The difference will only be a couple of db, though.
This would be right if you're using identical cabs. But if not, then it can vary greatly. An efficient single 8Ω cab (e.g. my Markbass 2x10) could be very much louder than two not very efficient cabs (e.g. my 2 old Marshall 1x15s at 4Ω). Having 1 efficient cab has many benefits. Having 2 gives you even more db if needed. It's not so much about how many watts there are, but what a cab can do with the signal provided.
16. Here's each pedal in it's glory... 17. He makes sense. No point buying pedals & find nothing in the setlist uses them.
18.
Is the head a little mark 2 in spec?
It is.
19. +1 Save your pennies a little longer. As for cabs, either go for the 8x10 or 2 4x10s. For loud guitar bands, you'd be better with 2 2x10s or 2x12s stacked vertically (better dispersion & easier to carry).
20. The downside of adding a 4x10 is the 4 drivers are getting 1/2 of what the other 2 are. I'd be in favour of another 2x10 & stacking them vertically for a consistent sound. A 15 with a 2x10 does mean unpredictable results. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good.
21. Don't get yourself so concerned with watts. Watts on a cab is how much heat it dissipates. Find an amp & cab that you like & just use your ears. If the cab farts, add another cab or get a more efficient cab.
22.
Sorry if I seem stupid, but is your location Perth (Scotland) or Perth (Australia). GLWTS mate!
Not a stupid question, I'm in Perth Scotland.
23. I never had any problems with onstage volume & I have the same combo. Played in a very loud rock band & in the small to medium venues there was only vocal PA & still had no troubles.
24. No longer playing, so this is for sale. The Mrs was actually trying to talk me out of selling it! Bought new back in 2008 & other than some cat hair from them sleeping on it, is in good condition. Includes cover & power lead. £600 Would prefer collection & can deliver/meet Tayside or Central Scotland, but will post if buyer wishes. 25. After much humming & haaing, I've decided to sell up as I'm not gonna use this gear anymore. [s]Moog MF-105b Bass MuRF with Moog tap tempo - £220 + p&p (comes with an adaptor lead that I made to switch from tap tempo to step sequence)[/s] [s]Moog MF-101 Low Pass Filter with EP2 - £175 + p&p (comes with a cable that I made for sending the Env out to any of the CV ins (or to the Bass Murf) & a PSU) The toe hook on the EP2's string had broken, but has been fixed with a screw.[/s] PSK SDS-2 Super Distortion - £20 + p&p Plastic case & worn, but does a good driven sound with the Moogs. [s]Spider Engineering flightcase with board - £45 + p&p[/s] Sold Here's some of the board all together...
