1.
I'm not talking about playing new songs and refining them, I mean jam sessions that just meander aimlessly along just so that some guitarist can do a 20 minute solo
That sounds like it's only benefiting the guitarist & the rest of the band is making it that way (including you). A jam session is what you make of it. Either stop listening to the guitarist & listen to the drummer & get a groove going, or listen to what the guitarist is playing & take the good bits & turn them into basslines. Get off those root notes from time to time!
2. I've had many songs start from what was a jam. Someone comes along with an idea, whether it be a chord sequence, a riff, a bassline, or a melody & we just mess around with it.
3.
I really don't know. It's in the TC Electronic design for their heads only.
Interesting. The only thing that I could find from TCE's website in relation to the actual wattage of the amps is that they do state the BH500 as a 250w head, the RH450 & RH750 as 236w heads & the Blacksmith is 924w. Though it doesn't say anything about cabs increasing the wattage.
4. Okey. How does that work? Given that all other cabs do not dictate how many watts an amp is other than by the impedance of the cabs.
5.
The TC E heads run on the wattage of the cabs. Hang on it will sound crazy at first. Example, the RH450 head has a max. wattage of 800 watts. The BC410 cab is 500 watts max. The BC212 cab, and or BC210 cab has a max. wattage of 250watts. Add the 500 watts of the BC410 to the 250 watts of the BC212, or BC210, and you have 750 watts, 50 watts less than the 800 watts the head is capable of @ total output. OR, Take three BC212, or BC210, or a mix of three of these, multiply the 250 X 3 equals 750 watts. Still 50 watts less than the total of 800 watts allowed. This does mean however, two BC410 cabs shouldn't run from an RH450. The two BC410 cabs will equal 1,000 watts, 200 watts over the Max. 800 watts of the RH450 head. This is shown in the specs of the RH450, Power module rating. It's also in the TC Electronic support, on it's site that explains all of their design for cab combinations. The cab combinations are meant for ONLY TC Electronic applicable heads.
?
6. +1 & I'd go octave>dirt>dirt>filter>dirt>compressor>tuner. But that would probably change depending on how each pedal affected the next & what sound I was going for. If anyone tells you that it needs to be in a specific order, then don't listen to them as they probably know very little about effects. If you have a specific sound that you're trying to achieve, then we can give pointers. But choosing a pedal order is 1/2 the fun of having pedals (I'm re routing mine as I type).
7.
As far as I know it is advertise as 500watt. The only thing I don't get it is when 3x BC cab is attach how the watt will be distributed.
I think it's either the cabs don't actually run at the stated Ωs or the head runs lower than 4Ω (or maybe a mix of both).
I've been reading a lot that the BH500 is 500 TC watts, which is actually around 236 watts rms. They have some circuitry that makes it sound like 500 watts ( whatever that means )
I know the RH heads are 236w. 500w doesn't really have a sound though & for the amp to go twice as loud as 236w, it would need to be 2360w. I'd imagine a 200w Orange head into an 8x10 can sound a good bit louder than my Markbass 2x10 combo (which is rated @ 300-350w at 8Ω) due to more drivers potentially moving more air.
8.
You be fine mate using the BH500 with tje BC212. Is loud enough already. Of course if you crack everything full on you can do more harm but you shouldn't need to do that anyway. 500watt at 8ohm you get around 300watt of power.
Is the BH500 a 500w head or is it TC watts? That's a genuine question as I don't know.
9.
Cheers everyone! I think the BH500 is looking like the most likely purchase right now. The 2 x 10" & 2 x 12" BC cabs are 250 watts @ 8 ohms, whilst my Warwicks are 300 watts @ 8 ohms, so I can use the BH500 with just 1 cab without the fear of blowing the speaker by accident. If I have the urge to go for a full T C rig, I can do it at a leisurely(and cost effective )pace! Thanks again folks!
Don't assume you can't blow a speaker if the watts match. If the band's too loud & you can't hear your rig, then you turn it up, then it can do damage.
10. I was gonna suggest any good walwart like the OneSpot or the Godlyke, but they're about the same price as the Diago. Mind & get yourself a daisy lead too.

DownThere

Here's the full song on Soundcloud... https://soundcloud.com/downthere/onsaturday-sundaymix
12. If you was getting into that song & got disappointed that it cut off, then here's it in it's entirety (Though there's vocals to be added to the outro part)... https://soundcloud.com/downthere/onsaturday-sundaymix Hope you enjoy
13. There's been a few boards that's had lighting on/under/in them on here & I've not heard of any issues. Copper tape/shielding should be able to sort out any issues from it though. I had an issue with noise from one of my moog pedals. I took the sides off & shielded them & had no issues since. As for your UV idea, that would work. Haptix have taken it a step past their pedal board... http://haptix-music.com
14. That is good news. Now the hard bit.... Finding a decent singer that'll be a good front man & not want to take control. The hard bit is that there's loads of shower singers & not many whom are actual vocalists. So lots of sifting. Best place might be open mic or karaoke.
15. If you like the sound of your GK 15", then add another GK 15". Adding an EBS cab is like putting sugar in your coffee, you might like it, you might not, but it's gonna sound different. Mixing driver sizes is the same, but can also be unpredictable from venue to venue. If you're not happy with the GK sound, try some cabs out until you find the one that you do like & then sell the GK.
16. Following on from Bert's post, forget what you look at the bass as. It's Not a root note instrument unless you make it one. I listen to the melodies & play things that work in the scale being used. Harmonising or playing unison with a vocal part here & there is also a good place to get the creative vibe flowing.
17.
I like it! So if I wanted to explore this sort of genre further, what would I look for? Electronica is a big umbrella. How do you describe your band?
That's a good question. I've no idea. There's a few bands that have a similar(ish) sound that I can think of, but not quite the same. Ultraista, Bjork & Modeselektor are 3 that come to mind. Maybe Prog Rock Electronica?
Sorry, slight derail, but you get a rather unexpected set of related youtube videos for yours Love the track.
Haha! I never noticed that! We better hurry up on getting a decent set of songs finished to change that. Thanks. I'm looking forward to sharing the full track soon.
18. Excellent stuff! It's good to get out of the kitchen & into a room with some space. I started one of the "quit my band" threads, but it's all positive & although I've quit, I've joined another 2! lol The important part of a band is to have fun. So may you be blessed with loads of it.
19. Q tron & Q Balls are filters (auto wah type thingys). BMS is an octaver, distortion (square wave) & filter all in one, hence being bigger, with more controls & costing considerably more. So it depends if it's gonna be your only pedal... Do you want to play funk & have your bass' tone with a wah on it, or do you want to play synth sounds? There are better filters than the EH ones (subject to taste of course). My choice is the Moog MF-101. It's big, it isn't cheap, but it does sound awesome.
20. Update time... We've already made a start on the first song & it's almost finished. There's a change in the song where the bass is more synth sounding that I've yet to record & the vocalist is working on her parts to go with it. Should be finished before the end of May. Here's a taster... http://youtu.be/6zGKAbhyDw8
21. As some of you might know, I had been trying to start a band playing breakbeat, electronica, house, acid jazz & such stuff but getting stuck with folk who want to play pop rock. Finally I found a chap starting a band that was so far, him on keys & guitar & a drummer. I joined last month & just over a week ago we got completed with a vocalist. Now we have our first track almost finished (I'm still working on a more synth dubstep sound for some parts in it & there's another vocal part being worked on), but here's what we have so far... http://youtu.be/6zGKAbhyDw8
22. That's not slowed down to 33.3, that's what she sounds like now she's older.
23. Rehearsal is the best time to get the sound you want (unless you take the band home with you). Most find in a band, it requires a different sound. Teach your band mates this (especially guitarists & keys players).
24. Have you got his email? Send him a virus & see how he likes to have things complicated.
25. I think the "cutting through" definition depends on the band. If there's guitarists, you're gonna have to do one of 2 things. 1- turn the bass down on their rigs so they're not playing bass, or 2- turn up your mids & play guitar.
