1. Isn't Bugera Behringer? Open things up & have a look at the drivers, see what's on them. You could then buy a couple of 16Ω drivers to suit the cab volume & put them in. Or maybe a better idea, flog it & get a matching 15 to the one you have (that's if you like the sound of it, of course).
2.
No idea. The guy who bodged some random driver into the cab ssaid it's now 6ohm B-)
Fixed for you
3.
So if I were to go, other than join my band and the open mic nights, where else can I find other musos?!
Bandmix, Gumtree, the local music shops & work have always provided. My band took a change in genre from what I started it as. I called a pub meeting & they all wanted to play rock covers. Not my thing, so I left. Within 4 days I had 2 bands vying for me. One an RnB/Soul band, the other an Electronica band. The best bit was that they both got me through 2 year old adverts.
4. It's a bit like changing strings on your bass. Put the same ones on & they sound & perform the same, put different ones on & it might be better, it might be worse. You'd need to look into details of the drivers that you would choose. If you put in the same spec'd drivers as the originals, but with a higher thermal rating, then you could maybe expect them to sound very similar or even the same.
5. No. The cabinet doesn't have any power. If you're replacing drivers, make sure that the cab is of a suitable volume (litres) for the drivers you intend on putting into it. Why would you blow up your 2x12? C4?
6. The wattage of an amp doesn't mean very much on its own. There's been many bands gigging with a 200w amp on big stages throught an 8x10 & I've gigged with 30 watts at my disposal in vlage halls. As long as you can move enough air & get a sound that you like.
7.
I do find it bizarre really, when I started I thought about 200 trace elliot watts would be all I would ever need.
It probably was & still is, had it not been for that damned gas!
8. What Jack says. That way you get a driver closer to your ear & better dispersion for the rest to hear you.
9. I was looking at the CZ synths last month. They bring back my teenage memories. The 101/1000 was the same synth, just small/full key versions. Cheers. Now I'm gassing for a CZ.
10. I've got the 2x10 version. I made a top for the amp so I can slide the amp out & use it on its own.
11.
here's the proof it was only 5 years ago I fixed it up... http://www.talkbass....o-watch.558473/
That manky in just 5 years??? You're only digging a hole for yourself!
12. The wattage thing does show that watts have not a lot to do with how many decibels you can make.
13. The downside that I had with a compressor sustainer was the increased noise floor. You need a clean set up, which might involve spending a bit on good patch leads & PSU & making sure that your shielding is good too.
14. Now I know why some players wear silk gloves!
15.
I've never been able to get my Ebow to work reliably on a bass.
I couldn't either, but one of my friends uses his efficiently (I suppose it's practice & patience).
Thanks for the steer, but I live in the 'frozen north', and opportunities to try stuff just don't come up. I may need to take a punt on a Soul Preacher. RK
Might be worth trying the second hand effects forum on here, that way you wont lose money if it's not what you want.
16. Try a compressor (or ten) before you buy one. Your other option is an Ebow,
17. It would most probably be cheaper to replace the EQ unit with a better quality one (depending on how much the EQ unit costs, of course). Preamp idea sounds like a good call, but if you like the sound you have/had, then it's not gonna be the same. It would give you a wider range of tones, but how often are you gonna change the amp settings at a gig?
18. What about the MarkBass TTE or the Multimark? I've never tried either, but worth chucking in the pot of gear to try. The LM II/III are great amps too.

loud enough?
Many thanks for all of your advice. It's my 1st gig and I guess that it's just nerves and me worrying. I will probably see how it goes before upgrading. Being a tightarse I could try and talk the band into upgrading the PA.
Don't worry about it & enjoy the gig. My first gig was through a Carlsbro 90 watt head into an unknown 15" cab & it was fun (that was about 30 years ago ). I now gig with a 2x10 combo & have no probs being heard.
20. This thread might be of interest to you... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/230948-ios-for-the-gigging-bassist/
21.
thanks! really appreciate it.
I've had a look... There's not a trim pot inside. It would be worth finding someone else with one (even a shop) & comparing yours along side to see if there's a volume difference as I've not had any volume issues. Have you tried it on its own?
22. What he says ^ You're not gonna want a high gain dirtbox for most of that stuff. I'm auditioning for a Funk/RnB/Soul band tonight & I'm using a Moog for some low overdrive (I've got a high gain & filter for when I want to drop some dubstep in the middle of I'll Be Around ) I've heard good things about the VT Bass (& the Behringer copy).
23. You can put it in my house if you like? Sorry.
24. There's every chance it could be the 2 8x10s were causing the problem, cancelling each other out maybe?
