    Low passing at 80hz & it loses it's tonal charm? That's weird. You could split your signal, keep the 80hz filter on one channel & have a notch filter on the other set somewhere around 3-400hz to bring some tone back (play with the notch frequency to get your sound). Failing that, there's the Pigtronix Mothership or the Guyatone MOM5 for sine wave lows.

  4. Last November I called a band meeting & said to my band that we're setting a date to get gigs. We set the end of January, it came & passed so that's why I called my band meeting & let them know that I wasn't happy. I then met up & let them know that as much fun as it can be, we had musical differences & rock covers was not what I wanted to do. If you're not happy with the music, call it. Don't sit unhappy.

Dave [/quote] That's what I would do. If you're after the Ampeg sound, why not try something like a VT pedal or an amp simulator through your rig?
  6. As long as the power supply has enough amps to run all your pedals, then you can get adaptors to reverse polarity as required. For the HT dual, you could either run that off it's own supply or get a transformer to boost the Volto's output to that one pedal. Whether the Volto is any good or not, I cannot answer.
  7. Do what I did last month. Get a band meeting & be honest. Tell them it's not what you want to do anymore & offer to advertise for a replacement bassist on here. Let them know that you think they're great guys too. Another thing is, if you're getting on well with one of them, see if he wants to start a side project & take things from there. Since I left my old band (that I started) I've had 2 bands get in touch before I've even advertised!

[/quote] My point wasn't really anything to do with the videos, just about Billy Sheehan's sound. I've not been to see him for over a decade, but in the days of Talas, DLR & early Mr Big, the guitarist provided the low end. I still can't watch your videos just now, but I've always associated his sounds with lots of mids, a bit of drive & nothing to make your trousers flap. He has a completely different sound to most classic rockers IMO.
  9. Depending on your musical preferences, I'd say go for flatwounds. I'm using D'Addario Chromes just now which are quite bright still for flats, but my favourites are the Tomastik Infeld Jazz. I was weary of making the change, but I did 4 years ago & I'm confident that I'll always be a flatwounds player (unless the music calls for the zing of rounds).
  10. I've not watched the vids, but lows of any sort are not something I would have associated with Billy Sheehan. If you're using 4x10/1x15 then it would make more sense to put it on top as it has a wider dispersion for the mids & top and you'd stand a better chance of hearing it if it struggles.

  13. There's only a few decent stockists of bass gear that I know of. Kenny's Music do stock Ampeg & it's where Sound Control used to be (Jamaica Road) & there's also a Kenny's in both Dunfermline & Dundee. I don't think Guitar Guitar stock Ampeg though, but they do have good gear coming & going. Whilst you're in there, have a try of Markbass. Lozz was an Ampeg man & finds Markbass sits in the mix very similar to how Ampeg does.

Professionals have used 4x10 &1x15 for years because of false marketing & that's what they've been provided with from the Sales & Marketing department stating that the 4x10 gives mids & top end & the 15 gives the lows, which in reality it may have been true in the 50s & 60s, but it's now just purely an image thing. The people who design cabs very rarely get to offer advice to the customer (unless they own the company & have an interest in sound over sales). Check the stats for the Ampeg cabs, I bet the 4x10 goes lower than the 15. Having a 4x10 & 1x15 also means you're limited by the weakest cab. If you're bi amping then you're either gonna limit the 4x10 to go as loud as the 1x15 will allow, or you're gonna drown out the 15 with the 4x10. If you really liked the sound of the 4x10, why not try both models out & see which you prefer? & if you do need another cab, buy a 2nd.

  17. Do you mean summing as in you split the signal from your bass, put different effects on each channel & then sum them back together? If that's what you're doing & just want to record it (not play live), then you could use the 2 channels on the front of your interface & mix them in your DAW.   18. It would be easy to surmise that the combo drivers are wired to run at 4Ω, but that's not a given.
  19. First thing to identify is what the minimum ohms is for the amp in the combo? If it's 4 ohm, then adding a 4 ohm cab is going to do damage. If it's 2, then chances are the combo drivers are wired to 4 ohm & you may want to add another 4 ohm cab. Your concern about the different cabs is valid, & a matching 2x10 would be the advisable choice. But if the amp is 2 ohm & the combo wired to 8 ohm, then the 4 ohm 4x10 would mean all 6 drivers are getting equal power. If you don't go through a PA & have foldback, I'd say get the matching cab & put them vertically for improved dispersion.
  20. And once you've done the above, lower the P's pickup to quieten it down, so when you use both on the one gig, there wont be a big difference in volume.

  22. I say try the standard PSU & if it makes noise, identify that it is the PSU & replace it if needed. Some pedals will daisychain fine, others wont. I have a 1.7A wart to power 4 pedals, but the Moog LPF squeals & whines when you chain it. I have shielded it & put it on it's own PSU (which was originally for a DIY tool) & it happily plays.
  23. Everyone knows that you need bass bins for bass! Have you checked your XLR lead that you DI with & was it the same lead on both occasions? If it's not the lead, then you could tell her that every time it's blown, her vocals have been going through it too. Though this might not be the best idea for band harmony. If she doesn't want you to DI, don't DI. If her & her dad are the band leaders & giving you a hard time, find a band with musicians in it & join that instead.
  24. I've got 2 of the pedals on the list, the Moog LPF & Bass Murf. But my rarest pedal is my cheapest (probably why it is rare) & that's a PSK SDS-2 distortion. Given to me by a chap who couldn't use it on his acoustic guitar back in the 80s, it's quite a high gain, but keep the gain down & put it on a split signal & it helps make a good synth sound (in combination with the Moogs, octaver & chorus).
