1. If you're ever up round Perth way gigging or if my (new) band get gigging soon & head down your way, You're welcome to have a blast on my bass (it's strung with Chromes).
2.
I want to get a five string anyway, been considering a Squier VM. Got a family holiday coming up, so will probably grab one after that. Or may hold out for something a bit more upmarket. The one thing thats put me off the TI flats is that they are supposed to be low tension. I'm a but heavy handed you see..... How do they actually feel though?
I went from DR Strings roundwound to the TI strings & can honestly say that although I knew they were a lower tension, it never once crossed my mind when I was playing with the band. I play finger, plectrum, slap & tap. It's not like playing elastic bands.
3. I'd get another bass (if I could afford one). I've got Chromes on my bass, the are rather bright for flats, probably on a par with halfwounds (groundwounds). I far prefer the Tomastik Infeld Jazz flats. They're bright for a flat too, but have a much nicer sound.
4. I used to play a lot of blues rock. Used a Peavey head through 2 15" Marshalls. Then a Trace Elliott 4x10 combo & then a MarkBass 2x10 combo. I preferred the MarkBass out of all of them & still use it (though I no longer play blues rock). I'd take your bass & cab & go try some amps out.
5. Firstly, have a read through some of the technical stuff on here, the Barefaced website and Bill Fitzmaurice's forum. You'll soon find out that your assumption of driver diameter is incorrect. You'll probably find that the 4x10 is also one of the poorest cab designs made. A single 15 cab in most instances doesn't go as low as a 4x10 or 2x12. The reason? The cab. Nothing to do with driver diameter. Where are you based? I'm sure there's somewhere not too far that does stock Aguilar (I know GuitarGuitar does, as does Bass Direct). So it might be worth grabbing your bass & having a day out at a good bass shop. If I was starting again with my rig, I'd probably go for a 2x12 & if it wasn't loud enough, add another 2x12. But I'm happy with what I have.
6.
How do you know I'm not, eh?
Because I am!
7. Now had you opened that box 10-15 years ago, you could have been the inventor of Spotify.
8.
thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wodyjagitven?
9. I've got analogue and digital ones. You really need them when you're making cakes.

Go & have a listen to Our Helical Mind, Miloopa or Nerve (JoJo Mayer, JohnDavis & the other 2) & tell me again how the OC2 doesn't make good subs.
Grammar - it's the difference between knowing your pants, and knowing you're pants.
I'm slightly concerned... Why does your grandma know your pants?

Low passing at 80hz & it loses it's tonal charm? That's weird. You could split your signal, keep the 80hz filter on one channel & have a notch filter on the other set somewhere around 3-400hz to bring some tone back (play with the notch frequency to get your sound). Failing that, there's the Pigtronix Mothership or the Guyatone MOM5 for sine wave lows.
13. Did the job get filled, or has he not heard a sausage?
14. I should be able to get a bassline down for this at the very least!
15. Last November I called a band meeting & said to my band that we're setting a date to get gigs. We set the end of January, it came & passed so that's why I called my band meeting & let them know that I wasn't happy. I then met up & let them know that as much fun as it can be, we had musical differences & rock covers was not what I wanted to do. If you're not happy with the music, call it. Don't sit unhappy.
16.
Gonna hold off for a bit to see how I get on with my existing kit but I have definite GAS for the Ampeg sound. Dave
That's what I would do. If you're after the Ampeg sound, why not try something like a VT pedal or an amp simulator through your rig?
17. As long as the power supply has enough amps to run all your pedals, then you can get adaptors to reverse polarity as required. For the HT dual, you could either run that off it's own supply or get a transformer to boost the Volto's output to that one pedal. Whether the Volto is any good or not, I cannot answer.
18. Do what I did last month. Get a band meeting & be honest. Tell them it's not what you want to do anymore & offer to advertise for a replacement bassist on here. Let them know that you think they're great guys too. Another thing is, if you're getting on well with one of them, see if he wants to start a side project & take things from there. Since I left my old band (that I started) I've had 2 bands get in touch before I've even advertised!
19.
Ok no worries . but I’m failing to see your point! It's all about context init. He has as much bottom as any other classic rocker I’ve seen. all be it with loads of mid/top aswell. I could have probably found and posted Reggae bassists who use 410/115 stacks who have lows that make your eyes go blurred but what help would that be to Dave? It seemed to make more sense to me with both of them playing classic rock .. No? Personally I feel if your gonna try help someone, it’s all about context of usage, or else we’re just playing top trumps. which many people do, but that is no use to anyone! It's the same when some asks what is the “best “ amp/cab/bass etc.. without context it is impossible to answer.
My point wasn't really anything to do with the videos, just about Billy Sheehan's sound. I've not been to see him for over a decade, but in the days of Talas, DLR & early Mr Big, the guitarist provided the low end. I still can't watch your videos just now, but I've always associated his sounds with lots of mids, a bit of drive & nothing to make your trousers flap. He has a completely different sound to most classic rockers IMO.
20. Depending on your musical preferences, I'd say go for flatwounds. I'm using D'Addario Chromes just now which are quite bright still for flats, but my favourites are the Tomastik Infeld Jazz. I was weary of making the change, but I did 4 years ago & I'm confident that I'll always be a flatwounds player (unless the music calls for the zing of rounds).
21. I've not watched the vids, but lows of any sort are not something I would have associated with Billy Sheehan. If you're using 4x10/1x15 then it would make more sense to put it on top as it has a wider dispersion for the mids & top and you'd stand a better chance of hearing it if it struggles.
22. I should have taken into consideration that you posted this in the "Recording" section & not the "Effects" section.
23. You could try tagging the nugget along. Ask him which AD he wants, if it's the 1/4, 1/2 or full page, or for an extra £1000 he can have a double centre spread.
24. There's only a few decent stockists of bass gear that I know of. Kenny's Music do stock Ampeg & it's where Sound Control used to be (Jamaica Road) & there's also a Kenny's in both Dunfermline & Dundee. I don't think Guitar Guitar stock Ampeg though, but they do have good gear coming & going. Whilst you're in there, have a try of Markbass. Lozz was an Ampeg man & finds Markbass sits in the mix very similar to how Ampeg does.
25. Professionals have used 4x10 &1x15 for years because of false marketing & that's what they've been provided with from the Sales & Marketing department stating that the 4x10 gives mids & top end & the 15 gives the lows, which in reality it may have been true in the 50s & 60s, but it's now just purely an image thing. The people who design cabs very rarely get to offer advice to the customer (unless they own the company & have an interest in sound over sales). Check the stats for the Ampeg cabs, I bet the 4x10 goes lower than the 15. Having a 4x10 & 1x15 also means you're limited by the weakest cab. If you're bi amping then you're either gonna limit the 4x10 to go as loud as the 1x15 will allow, or you're gonna drown out the 15 with the 4x10. If you really liked the sound of the 4x10, why not try both models out & see which you prefer? & if you do need another cab, buy a 2nd.
