I haven't experience of the Ampegs you ask of, but why go for 2 mismatched cabs?

Do you mean summing as in you split the signal from your bass, put different effects on each channel & then sum them back together? If that's what you're doing & just want to record it (not play live), then you could use the 2 channels on the front of your interface & mix them in your DAW. If you want to play live, get/make a small mixer. I made mine...

It would be easy to surmise that the combo drivers are wired to run at 4Ω, but that's not a given.
-
First thing to identify is what the minimum ohms is for the amp in the combo? If it's 4 ohm, then adding a 4 ohm cab is going to do damage. If it's 2, then chances are the combo drivers are wired to 4 ohm & you may want to add another 4 ohm cab. Your concern about the different cabs is valid, & a matching 2x10 would be the advisable choice. But if the amp is 2 ohm & the combo wired to 8 ohm, then the 4 ohm 4x10 would mean all 6 drivers are getting equal power. If you don't go through a PA & have foldback, I'd say get the matching cab & put them vertically for improved dispersion.

Output levels of passive basses - can it be altered?
xgsjx replied to Diablo's topic in Bass Guitars
And once you've done the above, lower the P's pickup to quieten it down, so when you use both on the one gig, there wont be a big difference in volume. -
But oh god I lied.......it's only ten channels.....
There's your problem right there! You've been trying to put 12 channels through a 10 channel mixer. Or is it one of these?...

Single power supply...and an option I've not come across before
xgsjx replied to EliasMooseblaster's topic in Effects
I say try the standard PSU & if it makes noise, identify that it is the PSU & replace it if needed. Some pedals will daisychain fine, others wont. I have a 1.7A wart to power 4 pedals, but the Moog LPF squeals & whines when you chain it. I have shielded it & put it on it's own PSU (which was originally for a DIY tool) & it happily plays. -
Everyone knows that you need bass bins for bass! Have you checked your XLR lead that you DI with & was it the same lead on both occasions? If it's not the lead, then you could tell her that every time it's blown, her vocals have been going through it too. Though this might not be the best idea for band harmony. If she doesn't want you to DI, don't DI. If her & her dad are the band leaders & giving you a hard time, find a band with musicians in it & join that instead.

I've got 2 of the pedals on the list, the Moog LPF & Bass Murf. But my rarest pedal is my cheapest (probably why it is rare) & that's a PSK SDS-2 distortion. Given to me by a chap who couldn't use it on his acoustic guitar back in the 80s, it's quite a high gain, but keep the gain down & put it on a split signal & it helps make a good synth sound (in combination with the Moogs, octaver & chorus).

Cheers Al. I've not had a listen to any of the other tracks yet this month, but I'll get a listen tonight or tomorrow.

Here's my entry. Never got time to finish it properly, but what started as 3 instruments (& was gonna stay that way) was soon growing branches & scaring the sun away! https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/sol-fear

I was hoping to have mine finished, but never got to touch it at the weekend. I'll post what I've done at lunchtime.
I'm thinking about quitting my band. Good luck with yours
It's not an easy thing to do, but if you're not enjoying doing what you're doing, then why waste your & the band's time? I'd spent a good bit of time before making my decision & thankfully found another before telling them (though I would have regardless).
-
Another idea is to use a DAW. It might take a little time, but if you put the song into there & put a vst bassline down, you'll probably come up with things that you wouldn't've on bass. If you use vsts for all the instruments, you'll come up with something different again. You can then adjust this to suit the finished song.

I like John Davis' bass tone. Bond's is great too. But then it's not just bass, amp & cab. There's effects there too, but if it gets the sound, who really cares? On the recordings, there's always some effects of some sort from the producer.

The original band was never meant to be a covers band or a rock band, but I think this worked out well. I've started a band that otherwise, wouldn't have existed. I'm glad that I decided to leave almost as soon as the band decided to do covers, so it doesn't waste anyone's time & they can find someone who wants to do covers.

Try using a scale, run or arpeggio & for the 1st note or 5, don't use the root. Try starting from the 3rd or 5th (or even the 9th) & run down/up/wobble about.
-
Listen to the vocal melody. Use the rhythm from it. In reggae, you might want to play just bits of the rhythm & harmonise rather than play unison. Record the song with no bass & listen a few times until the bass line is in your mind.

Cheers guys. The first band was made entirely of rockers, so asking them to play something different was a big ask & if they don't feel the same as I do about the type of music, then it's not fair of me to force them to do otherwise. Getting the new band was perfect timing & I think my creating of the old band was meant to be, as I got those guys together, whereas before, they wasn't doing much musically. So all's good.

As some of you know, I tried to start an originals band that 2 weeks ago, became a covers band. Well tonight I've just sent a group message to say that I've left the band (as opposed to kicking everyone out). I really wanted to play more electronic/funk/acid jazz stuff & write our own, but with 2 guitarists, that was not going to happen. So last night I met with a guitarist/synth player who is starting an electronica band in a similar vein to Modeselekor & Ultraista to see if it was the sort of thing that I ant to do. It is & we got on really well & have a similar view as to what we want to play. So far there is him who plays 8 string guitar through a multitude of fx & triggers his synths (he's got some nice kit too: Access Virus, DSI Tetra, Mininova) & a drummer who plays an electronic kit. They're auditioning a female vocalist next week. The old band I've left are sorry to see me go, but I explained that I don't want to play rock or covers & they understand & wished me the best with the new. I've offered to help find a bassist & once they get to gigging level, help with their first gigs. I'm now looking forward to playing stuff that's going to let me play with the sounds that I want to make (& that doesn't sound like bass guitar). Here's one of the new band's songs... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOBe-8I069I Thanks for the fix.

Sometimes no matter how hard you try & how great a thing is, it's just not to be. She's got an awesome voice & I'm sure she'll find her niche eventually (hopefully sooner, than later). Why don't you. & one or two of the band start something new? The advantage you have over me is where you live. You've got access to countless musicians & I'm managing to get a band from a town with little in the way of musicians, so I'm sure you can get a band that you enjoy. Hope you had an awesome gig.

Can modern amps sound as good as all-valve vintage gear?
xgsjx replied to Bassnut62's topic in Amps and Cabs
There's quite a few modern amps out there with a tube pre built in, so you might want to compare them to the non tube ones too to see which you prefer. -
Ahh, how did I miss that!?! I should be able to get my entry in for then.

When's closing the date? I've got an entry, but it's just in the finishing off stages & I'd like to get an entry in this mumph.
