1. If you bought it new & you haven't abused the combo, get in touch with where you bought it & ask them to fix it (for free of course). Do this before you start opening things up yourself.
2. I couldn't give you a definite top 3, but here's 3 that I'd live to have a jam with... JoJo Mayer Chad Smith Cobus
3. How about rocking up a non rock song, maybe a classic dance song?
4. Been having mucho fun playing this old song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYDfwUJzYQg
5.
little cards left in phone boxes?
That was the 1st thought that came into my head.
6. I unplugged my tweeter too. Might try the Stage Line.
7.
It's not that simple. You can ask for a refund but if the goods were bought months ago it is too long a time period to 'reject' them. If the goods can't be repaired you can then demand a replacement.
You're correct on the rejection timescale, but I'd still kick up a stink if they're acting like wazzicks. Sale of goods act is up to 5 years in Scotland & 6 in England & Wales. I had a 3 year old Xbox 360 replaced under the SoGa due to a "known" fault. I stated that it was poor workmanship & not fit for purpose. Game put up a fight, but they then gave in when I threatened legal action. If the item is less than 6 months old, then it's up to the seller to prove that the item is not faulty.
Already thought about that but it doesn't work. It's down to the manufacturers choice.
The contract is with you & the seller, NOT the manufacturer.
8. If the amp's only 6 months old I'd be asking for a replacement under your statutory rights. No ifs or buts. I wouldn't leave the shop until you get the replacement either & raise it every time a customer comes in if they won't agree.
9. I think Markbass gear sounds ok at home, but when it's in a band situ, it then comes into it's own.
10.
That's all fair, I hope you didn't think it was a personal thing I'm an ex science teacher and I can't resist my instinct against the unqualified statement. My wife is an English teacher and can't resist correcting my grammar. Hope it opened up the debate though.
I didn't think it was personal. I'm always keen to know how &why things work. Helps me get a good sound at gigs.
11.
You should get an octaver.
That goes 2 octaves up so you can play what the wannabe bassists are leaving out.
12. Brilliant track! A lot of house music takes it's insipration from 70s funk & disco. Hed Kandi albums are a great place to pick up some uplifting house basslines.
13.
+1. Within reason you can get pretty much the same result with any cone size from an eight to an eighteen, with the single exception of the dispersion angle. It isn't all that practical to get 30Hz out of eights, or 4kHz out of eighteens, but it can be done. There is absolutely no characteristic ten vs twelve vs fifteen sound.
A couple of weeks ago, my guitarists found out what dispersion is when the room we hired had a 4x12 guitar cab, stood right in front of it & kept turning it up because he couldn't hear himself. I suggested that he move further away & he stepped forward & to the side. He still thought he was quiet. The other guitarist pulled him over to where he was standing, straight across from the cab & he stood there for the rest of the sesh (& turned down too).
14.
Sorry, but this simply isn't true, though it has become the received wisdom on BC.
I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying, though I could have worded it a little better. But maybe a good thing as you then went on to explain quite a few things. What I meant was that a driver's diameter doesn't mean it has a particular sound. It's down to lots of factors. The 2 15" Marshalls that I had in the 80s had nowhere near as much bass as the 2x10" Makbass that I use nowadays. Though this is most likely a mix of better designed drivers and better designed cabs.
15. Cone size makes no difference to the sound. It's all down to how the driver is made & cab design. The benefit a single 15 has over a single 10 or 12, is that it can move more air. a 2x10 can move almost as much air & a 2x12 can move more air, but the disadvantage there is more magnet weight (though with neo, that's hardly an issue). To top that off, PJB use 5" drivers (I believe their bigger cabs have 21 of them). So to put it simple, the more air you can move, the louder you can go.
16. THere's not an option for my position... Not tried one, but would be high on the list of contenders.
17. Good stuff! I doubt I'll get anything in this month, but I'll be listening to all the entries after Xmas.
18. Then whichever you prefer the sound of.
19.
I'd prefer the Marshall because it's a Marshall...
& their bass gear is nearly as good as Behringer! If it's for your bedroom or playing with an acoustic guitarist, then whichever you prefer. If you're gonna play in a band, whichever is the loudest until you can get something that's suitable for in a band. I've gotten away with a 30w combo at a gig a few times, but I'd rather have something designed to play gigs with (which I have).
20.
Not surprised it's slow having to re-educate the rest of the band first! Massive admiration for your determined effort to do something different!
I don't know if it's working. Both the guitarists want to play Stereophonics, Franz Ferdinand & so on & think we should make most of the set covers. The drummer is quite a talented musician & does a bit of writing too, so it might be a DnB writing combo, so I feel sorry for the singer!
21. Started another band & after a year, I've finally got a full line up. Still debating what we're doing music wise. I advertised to start an Acid Jazz/Breakbeat/Funk band, but I could only get 2 guitarists, a singer & a drummer & none of them know what either of those styles are! So it's a rock band with Dubstep/Techno/Funk basslines. I'm trying to get some songwriting going on, but it's sssllllooooooowwwww!
22.
Sounds like fun and not a million miles away from what I'm looking for.
It was great fun. Unfortunately the singer took a stroke & now has no interest in music.
23. My last band was a mix of Folk & Americana (with Blues & Jazz thrown in). We appealed to the Folk audience as it was the singer on either acoustic guitar or banjo, the trad folky lady on either uke, mandolin, bohdran or spoons & me either on acoustic guitar or lekky bass going through my fx. Here's some stuff from our penultimate gig's rehearsal... https://soundcloud.com/bassg/sets/bigroom-practice
24. 3mm I find anything over 1mm to thick, even for bass! Myself & both my guitarists found out that we all use the same gauge pics, .73mm. My previous guitarist liked his pics not much thicker than a ciggy paper.
25. Same here. I've been wanting to take part since it started, but my band is nowhere near gigging capability as yet (much to my dismay).
