1. I take it by "Amp" you mean "Amp & Cab or Combo" & not just an amp with no speakers? I'd be trying out the Genz Benz stuff if it's new you're after. As for speaker config, that's up to you. I'd suggest going to a good bass shop or 2 & trying out a few different things. Lozz makes sense.
2. It depends on what I'm trying to play. Most of the time I'm happy with my playing & enjoy learning & getting better, but then occasionally I'll try to play something that's in my head & find I can't quite nail it. I'm usually less happy with other musician's playing skills than my own.
3. I voted no. When I got my Markbass combo there wasn't a power lead with it. I have plenty of computer power leads from my kettle collection, so it's never an issue.
4. Bieber's an awesome bassist. (apparently he almost plays it too)
5. I was hoping to get the entire band to write as a collective, but I'm starting to wonder if that'll work? I've done a good bit of songwriting over the years, but as I'm not a singer, I don't do much in the way of lyrics. It's usually been me & the vocalist that have written all the songs. I think the drummer's the only other band member who's ever written a song. The singer is new to the band & bands in general, but he can sing & is willing to pull his weight.
6. When you first started your originals band, & you had your first few jams, what did you do from there? Did you start writing your own stuff straight away & do your first gig with the majority being your band's own stuff? Or did you learn a bunch of covers & throw in one or 2 of your own songs in the hope that the audience might like them? I've always been from the former type of bands, but both the guitarists are strictly from the latter. I told them that I can get us gigs & they're both giving it "we should learn this & that to cover" etc, which me nor the drummer agrees with. All of my past originals bands have had 1 or 2 songs to start us off when jamming & they sometimes make it onto the set list, but that's about it.
7. You'll get a 2nd hand Markbass 2x10 Std & probably have change. I'd say get to a music shop & try as many different brands as you can.
8. Doesn't neccessaraly have to be a cover band. My past few bands have been originals bands that chuck in 1 or 2 covers that aren't played like the original.
9. Though if someone's got something that they want to sell, they could put it in the "For Sale" section.
10. What's your budget? Could make the difference between 2 2x10s & 1 2x10. I find my Markbass 2x10 does all I need (& it's not a quote band when there's 2 guits & a guy with hammers on the drums). I like my low end too. There's a couple of chaps on here with the Markbass 1x12 combo & a 1x12 ext cab. Barefaced are light & loud for cabs & like Chris says, there's the Bergs.
11. Pretty much that. Whenever you cover a song, even if it's totally redone, what one gives you & the band the most fun & enjoyment? In my last band, we always had fun messing about with Use Me (Bill Withers). Also had fun playing Sir Duke & in a previous band we did Shy Boy (Talas) which has one of the most fun solos to play (though easy to mess up too). What's yours?
12.
the very, very, deepest Bill Laswell dub that i know of lies herein, and it sounds to me like a mix of octave down and an LPF (like the IE Xerograph or Moog LPF) the octaver sounds like it's glitching, but still, frickin' awesome.
I've not heard the Xerograph, but it does sound like the Moog with the cutoff pretty low, the envelope follower amount about 1/2 way & maybe even taking a patch from the "env out" to the "resonance in" with the resonance being set down about 2 to start with (so you get a very bassy sound when played lightly & the resonance opening with the filter on the harder notes).
13. If he's busted it, I'd be asking him to pay for the repairs as my first port of call. He borrowed, he broke, he pays. If you decide to let someone borrow your gear again, I would make them aware that they're physically & financially responsible for it being in the same condition that it was when they borrowed it.
14. What Ω is the driver in the Rumble? I'd go with the same Ω.
15.
Could be a long wait, given the circumstances ...
Well it would be cease & desist.
16. Unless Ally Mcbeal has a famous shop called Mcbeals, I'd have ignored it completely. McDonalds tried to trademark the name Ronald Mcdonald & failed when a real Ronald Mcdonald pulled them up. You can't trademark an everyday name & tell folk that they can't use it! I'm waiting for Malcolm Mclaren hearing from Mclaren motors.
17. I use a laptop case too. Leads go in the main compartment, the rest arranged in to the zippy bits to suit.
18. Or get your drummer to play with chop sticks
19.
Is this what you're looking for in the bub sound? ... but I may be wrong
Sounds like filter & chorus (moderately fast to give that wobble)
20. I wouldn't entertain the TE 4x10 combo. I had one & it struggles to sound good, let alone get loud. Like Pete says, the Genz Benz combos are a steal at the mo.
21. Music sounds a bit like Bjork or Jo Hamilton, but with a guy singing. I like that. If this is still running after Xmas, I'll be having a blast. I've just read that the deadline is 31/01... I'll be having a good blast!
22. C'mon Phil!!!! Everyone knows he needs 2 Ampeg SVTs & 4 8x10 cabs. Like Phil says, it depends on how loud your band is. I've gigged with a 30 watt 1x12 combo to @ 100 people & I've done the same gig with a 350w 2x10 combo. Both did what I wanted. I now only use the 350w 2x10 combo in a rather loud band & have no probs with being heard, but my hearing can be shot afterwards (damn geetardz!).
23. Every time we go to rehearsals, the first thing I do is turn the bass down on the 2 (in house) guitar amps. It's got that way that one of the guitarists now does it if I don't. Get your guitarists to turn down a bit too (good luck with that, they'll probably turn down & then 1st chorus, back up).
24. That might be my problem. The rest of the band don't seem to have much "band" experience. One of the guitarists was in a local blues rock band (that are decidedly average), the other 3 I don't think have any gigging experience (one thinking every 2nd song should be a cover in an "originals" band). They're good guys though & it's taken me long enough to find some musicians, so I'm sure they'll all get there soon. Just need perseverance.
25.
................ and no gang culture references in those days either! I wonder what they'd say about todays black artists
Probably something like "Yo, wannabe mu********** gangsta ******* Bit**, I'll shoot yo scrawny little mu*********** a*** in the face!", but in a more eligible way like "Why do you bother".
