1. Cool playing, but I recon he maybe had a couple of bad runs & spliced the best bits together.
2.
The reason I ask is because Gear4Music are still selling there's for the normal price of £435. I wondered why the drastic price drop by other shops? http://www.gear4musi..._kword__match__ Are they just bad amps or are they badly designed i.e. heavy and awkward. The same thing happened with Line6 amps. I've played through a 300 watt one and they sound great (and insanely loud for 300 watts) but shops are giving them away.
If you think of what a combo that a pro would use from the likes of Ashdown, Markbass, Trace Elliot, Phil Jones or Hartke would cost, then think about who this is aimed at . This is probably designed for entry to gigging use & therefore fits in that bracket. There's been many combos like this that start with a higher RRP & then fall in price as they're outsold by others such as the TC BG combo or it might even be becoming discontinued. There's probably nothing wrong with the combo other than weight, I wouldn't expect it to compete with my Markbass combo in sound quality at volume, but then at @ 3x the price difference, I shouldn't.
3. It's about the same price as the TC BG250 1x15 combo. So it seems to be priced accordingly. Don't think because is has more watts, it's louder.
4. No! Until she tells us otherwise, her ID on here is YouTube Girl. Just like I'm xgsjx. But yes, I think Marta is rather good. Happy Happy?
5.
Quavers/semi-quavers , yeah 1st finger for low F sharp then 2nd finger for the 1st high F sharp followed by the 1st finger again. I can also do it 1st finger low F sharp then 2nd for the 1st high F sharp then 1st finger then 2nd finger, so alternating 1,2 etc.
Nice. That YouTube girl's got some nice playing going on there too.
6.
So that means it takes at least 20 years of playing bass before playing 6 string guitar? : )
That should be compulsory for all wanna be guitarists.
7.
I'm not sure the statement was metaphysical in an way. (?) I just heard the tune. It can be played with either thumb or fingers. But yeah, it takes some technique. So the short answer here can simply be "get better." : ) Seriously, if not using the thumb, I think it would be best if it were fingered -- index for the low, then middle and index for the octave, and then the index AGAIN for the lower note. That seems like more movement but it's actually falls more naturally. (To me).

1st finger for the low F sharp, then 2nd finger followed by the 1st finger for the octaves, just repeat that. Fine advice about using a metronome and start at a low tempo, maybe 60bpm, and just increase the tempo as you find it easier. Ignore the tapping suggestion , and also the thumb suggestion. Why would you want to tap it ???????? Unless you've practiced incorporating your thumb into playing with your fingers, the sound would be too different for it to work properly. The sound between 1st and 2nd finger is noticeable, more flesh on the 2nd finger, your thumb would sound even more heavier.
Index finger from D to E string on quavers? That's a tricky bit of string skipping you guys do if you can play that at speed & consistency!
8. I've been there. This time last year I nearly sold it all & bought a synth. Then I thought "I'll give it one more go". I advertised for musicians on Gumtree, Joinmyband, Bandmix & at work. I decided that it was going to be an originals band with a couple of covers that we could rework in our own style. Hired & fired a few "musicians" & after almost a year, I now have a 5 piece band that all get on really well with one another & actually get on outside of band life. Most recent addition was the singer, who can really sing & is a writer too & we're now looking to find a keys player (though not essential as the singer can play keys). So have a think what you want to do. Do you want to give it up & take up another instrument?
9. Nice playing. Where'd ya get the gold Jamiroquai suit from?
10. Take your time. It's a new technique to you, so practice slowly & you'll soon build up speed. Start by doing the pattern on just the one string & the one note (I'll suggest the F on the D string). Right hand pattern for your fingers... 1-321_321_321_32 & so on It's a pattern that's used in a lot of rock/metal when it's not octaved. Once you get the hang of that, then try doing the "1" an octave lower (playing the pattern that you shared). It takes time & may take a few days/weeks/months, but you'll get there.
11.
IMO there really is no need for 6 strings on a bass (for most regular types of music). I do understand the need for a low B but a high C is encroaching on the realms of the regular six string guitar surely...
But what is a "regular type" of music? Jazz? Prog Rock? Electronica? Pop? A lot of styles can make good use of a 6 string bass when it's in the right hands (just as with a 4 string). I used to play in a folk band (use the term "folk" very loosely there) & there was a couple of songs that having a high C would have made the bassline that bit easier than having to reach for the 24th fret on the G.
12. It depends on what you're covering & how you play. If you play covers as they were recorded, then learn the words properly. If you play your take on the songs, then there's nowt wrong with putting your spin on the lyrics too.
13. I'm sure someone has a Billy Sheehan quote in their sig? Something like: Interviewer "have you thought about playing a 5 string?", Billy "You should only play a 5 after you've spent a bit of time on a 4", Interviewer "how long's that?", Billy "at least 20 years". I've been on a 4 for almost 30 years.
14. I want a 5, preferably fretless. I only want the extra string for ease of playing. I have an octaver for the lower notes.
15. I found Gumtree to be the best place, then Joinmyband, then Bandmix. That's a lie. Most of the band I found through work. Gumtree & JMB got me a lot of wannabe singers & finally the excellent singer we have now.
16. There's plenty of pedals that can split your signal & then you can use effects on the line to the guitar amp. Not a cheap option, but the Moog Bass Murf would be a good splitter pedal for this purpose as one channel can have just lows & the other everything else (I use it, but sum the signals back together to the one amp).
17. If your amp has a "tuner out", then why not something like one of these to pop on top of your amp? http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Tanglewood-Handheld-Tuner-Silver/JHU
18. I'd try some out. Thomann do a 30 day money back, I'm sure other shops do similar. Ignore the watts, it doesn't dictate how loud an amp will go.
19. To cover most sounds, I have octaver, filter (with exp pedal & auto wah), dirt & chorus. There's no correct answer to your question though.
20. I do mentally, but it's involentary.
21. There's plenty folk on here with TC rigs that are very happy with the volume. Watts do not = volume.
22.
1 112 cab in a metal band? I'm not sure that would work. I think a 410 or 212 would have a better chance of success.
Nah, defo need 2 8x10s!
23. I've been using a Godlyke Powerall to power all except the Moog LPF (it won't share power with other pedals without making a noise about it). It's 1.7A & I got it from DV247 for @ £18. They don't seem to stock em anymore.
24. We have a regular weekly evening slot in one of the rooms in the local studio. It's a decent size with a decent PA. drummer brings his breakables & uses the kick & toms. Guitarist use the supplied 1/2 stacks (which kinda irritates me as I think they should use the gear that they're gonna gig with) & there's a SWR 4x10 cab with a Peavey TNT sitting on top of it (I take my Markbass). £22 split between 5 for 2 hours isn't bad.
25. I played 4 fretless Jazz basses side by side. The MIA was an awesome bass for both sound & build. The MIM was rather underwhelming & whereas it had a decent enough build, it felt poor next to the MIA & didn't pack the beef either. Very disappointing. The Squire was equally as good as the MIM, but at 1/3 of the price, I'd happily buy this & upgrade it with flats & better electrics & still have a cheaper instrument than the MIM that sounds far better with as good as build quality. The Jaco was a verrrry nice bass, but I wouldn't say it was worth the £500 difference between it & the MIA. So my winner was the MIA. YMMV though.
