    OC-3 Love

    Another OC3 man here. I tried an OC2 & it wasn't what I was looking for. Bought the OC3 off Shep & I'm very happy with how it sounds through a couple of filters & I really appreciate the decent tracking that it has too.
  2. I like the look of the Babicz bridges. It's about which one has the best adjustments, the easiest string placement & which one you like the look of the most. The ABM ones are also well made, but they're redonkulously priced.

[/quote] There's a Jumper inside the amp to select Parallel or Series FX, there's also another to select Pre or Post DI.
  6. I don't hate sunburst, I just think it looks rubbish. It's like the spray painter got bored of doing a single colour & lacked imagination. It wouldn't stop me playing a good bass though.

[/quote] Despite not liking Sunburst (I'd put it on a par with how much I'd like a metallic pink bass) or that horrible top horn, I could sit & play a good fretless Jazz all day long.

  10. Depending on the bass & the effects used, I find the following when using a complete rig from the following manufacturers... Ampegs have that Ampeg sound, they just sound Ampeg. unless you spend less than £2k on one, then they sound a bit like Ashdown. Ashdowns sound like Trace Elliots but more Welsh friendly. Markbass sound very much like whatever you put in them. Phil Jones sound similar to Markbass but slightly different. Gallien Krueger sound a bit like SWR. Trace Elliot sounds like a private investigator from the 80s. SWR have fallen away a little & trying to be Genz Benz. Genz Benz aren't made by AMG or Brabus. Krampera sound expensive & look interesting. Aguilar has a nice retro look & sound pretty much like all the rest to the punters, but no one knows how to pronounce Aguilar. These are some of the rigs that I tried before getting my Markbass combo. Hope it helps.
  11. To the punter, it doesn't make a difference whether it's a J or a P. I used to play in an acoustic trio with my Ibanez SR1000 strung with flats & even used effects, the punters only saw it as an acoustic band.
  12. Cover it with vinyl. Get a piece of sticky backed vinyl the colour you want (it comes in just about any you wan, patterns too), sit the naked body on it face up, grab a hairdryer & get pulling the vinyl round the body & up so the join is behind the scratchplate. There's a good vinyl supplier near you too.

  15. Yes. But make sure there's no short where you cut. Leave a couple of inches & slit the wire so you can isolate one from t'other.
  16. If you like his sound, try a Markbass combo. I've been very happy with mine.
  17. There's a lot of great combos that come within your budget that fit your "oomph & reliable" requirements & also include lightweight & sound good too. I'd have a look at MarkBass, Genz Benz & SWR (Super Redhead) for combos. Another option is a small amp from someone such as MarkBass or TC Electronic that you can pop in a shoulder bag & get a good light 2x10 or 2x12 cab. Best getting to a bas shop & ay through some gear to see what you like.
  18. Superglue. Just make sure you get them in the order you want or have long patch leads. For Chorus, I use an old Boss CE-2. For dirt, it really depends on what sort of sound you're looking for as there's that many different types.
  19. I think anyone whom dismisses a method for playing is only limiting themselves & being a bit uncreative. I like to mix styles of playing. Whether that be fingering, slapping, picking, tapping or whatever else, I won't write it off as there'll be a bassline that sounds better played X way. .73mm for me too. The yellow ones.
  20. I tried the PJB briefcase about 5 years ago. Nice at low volume, farted when I turned it up a bit. Might have been a dodgy one, but it put me off.

  22. The best thing to do is use your ears when looking for & using an amp. The amp that matches your cab is the one you like the sound of the most. How loud it's gonna be is determined by the sensitivity of your cabs. If you're running out of volume, back off on the lower frequencies & you'll be able to increase the overall volume. Have fun trying out amps, I did.
  23. It's up to you. I went for a 2x10 combo as I can easily carry it from the car in one hand, pedal board in't other & bass over my shoulder & don't have to worry if the house cab has blown drivers & if the house cab is fine, I can plug it into my combo if needed. But you could just as easily pop a small head in the pocket on your bass case & carry a cab in the back of the car for emergencies/having a decent sound.

  25. I'd like to say well done to all who attempted to make a song out of the stems & working with those drums. It's a hard choice to say who's is the best mix, there's a couple of excellent mixes that had a little too much reverb for my liking (though I was guilty of that last month). I like what Ironside's done with the track & the horns are a nice touch, so a worthy winner. Like Skol said at the start, it's the sort of stems most bands on a budget would end up with, though getting a soundy that knows how to record drums properly would be my priority for any future recordings as the other instruments can be redone at home. We tested all the drum mics were putting a signal out to the desk, but we only got the overheads & the kick. The snare & toms all had individual mics, but we never got those tracks. Bring on the xilddx/51m0n track & give us the luxury of working with good stems again!
