  1. For modulation I use the Boss CE2 chorus & the Moog Bass Murf (also used for dirt & splitting the signal), but again, try things out.
  2. The loop in most amps is a lower level compared to the signal from a bass & is normally more suited to rack effects. Envelope & dirt pedals are the ones that would most likely sound different with the posibility that the envelope wouldn't get a hot enough signal to trigger it fully. Experimentation is the way to go. I tried it & it meant I was running an extra wire to the pedalboard & not getting as good a drive sound & if I us the auto filter on the LPF, it hardly did anything.
  3. If you've got some funds, why not get an EUB for home practice (& probably for gigs where portability is required)? You could do what I do & restrict the playing to daytime only at home (making sure there's no one to annoy) & rehearsal room every week or 2 with a band.
  4. If it sounds good & the speakers ain't stressing then I wouldn't worry. If you're running out of excursion, add another cab of the same. I have no problems using a single 2x10. Considered adding another, but none of the gigs I've done so far warrant it (bigger gigs have had PA support). [quote name='VTypeV4' timestamp='1373666224' post='2140506'] Does that GK head have a bi-amp facility? If so you could potentially get another cab to handle the lows more effectively (maybe a 1x15 with a modern long-excursion drive unit) and high-pass the 2x10 to protect the drivers whilst retaining that punch and clarity.. [/quote] With modern drivers the excursion (& punch/clarity/lows) is probably the same throughout a model's range regardless of diameter. I know the specs given for the Markbass Standard 1x15 & 2x10 cabs are the same for excursion (found on the B&C website) & for the frequency response.
  5. I'd break the beige & go for either red, light blue or orange. Not blingy vibrant versions of those colours though.
  6. It's your playground & there's no right or wrong, just what You like. So go & try some pedals. The 2 you named are a great starting point. Add a dirt pedal so when you open the filter it has a more harmonic tone. Add some modulation such as chorus or flange to give the sound movement & thicken it up. Some reverb or delay, what ever you fancy.
  7. I was in your position about 5 years ago. Tried loads of rigs & ended up getting a Markbass 2x10 combo. New band is a 2 deaf gutarists & a shed building drummer & I have no problems being heard (& also hearing what my fx actually do! ).

    Arpeggiator?!

I had a listen to the thing you want. Scrub the Moog, it doesn't sample.
  9. Beat me to it. I downloaded it last night. Do you know what other titles are free?
  10. Thread revival. The joys of starting a band. Well after much searching & trying things, I think the band is finally together. The singer/keys/DJ left. He can't commit as may be moving away from Perth (lucky sod, it's a nice place to visit). One of the guitarists has taken on vocal duties & we might have another singer, but the line up now is... Drums, Bass, Guitar, Guitar/Vocals So no keys & 2 guitarists. Safe to say I think the idea of starting an Acid Jazz/Funk/Breakbeat band that folk can dance to is clearly out the window. We're probably a rock band! At rehearsals last night I said "OK, what sort of music are we going to do"? I explained (again) what my original intentions for the band was & said that I'm happy for it to take on another direction if the rest of the band couldn't play those styles. The guitarist/vocalist said "why don't we take well known songs & do them in a rock style"? I felt like dropping my bass, hanging him upsidedown by his guitar strings & leaving. But I'll persevere. The problem with a place like Perth is that there's a severe shortage of actual accomplished musicians that aren't already committed to another band, so I have to take what I get if I'm to start a band of any sort! We're now doing weekly rehearsals, so hopefully we can eventually get rid of the covers & get on with writing. Would it be a good idea at the next rehearsal to say "here's the chords" (or key, if it's a riff based groove) & just jam, not play any covers at all? I only chose to have a couple of covers for the singer to have something to sing until we started writing.
  11. I'd just become the best table tapper that I can.
  12. That's the fun part. Trying things & finding what You like. It's good getting the wonderful advice that is available on this forum, but it's your ears (& your back) that should make the decision. I tried loads of rigs & ended up with a 2x10.
  13. Why a 4x10? Like Chris says, a good 2x12 is a better option, though I'm not sure if Trace do a 2x12. But then, why Trace?
  14. & a good 8Ω will sound just the same.
  15. [quote name='28mistertee' timestamp='1373281902' post='2135553'] Not necessarily more power but just the option of adding say a 1x15 in at a later date just to give a bit more bottom end should I want it. Just didn't want to buy one 4ohm then want to add at a later date. [/quote] Don't be misled into believing that adding a 1x15 to a 4x10 is a good idea or will add any bottom end. Find a cab that you like the sound of & if you need more volume, get an identical cab. If there's a 4Ω & an 8Ω version of a cab, go for the 8Ω unless you plan to never add another cab or plan on getting a 2Ω amp. The volume difference between the 2 would not be noticed & watts don't determine decibels, speakers do that.
  16. Ωs wise, that's what I'd do (& I do do too). Your amp will put out up to 350 watts at 4Ω or @ 200 at 8Ω. As for the cab, it depends. Try it. If you don't like it, you can always sell it on.
  17. [quote name='waynepunkdude' timestamp='1373211796' post='2134751'] Canestan and the Duo [/quote] I hear the girls are itching to hear you. Must be a big thrush.
  18. I wanted to add mine here, but we're still stuck for a name!
  19. Seymour Duncan website has diagrams... http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=std_jazz_bass Could be a pot wired incorrectly.
  20. Mark Brydon - Moloko Bond - Miloopa
  21. Get a Hofner. I prefer Js to Ps myself.
  22. The Epiphone Jack Cassidy is quite a nice semi acoustic bass. Never played one though.

    Arpeggiator?!

I know you're looking for a cheaper option & this is the opposite, but the Moog Bass (or Midi) Murf is an awesome bit of kit for arpeggiation & also as a tweakable analogue overdrive/swirly thing.
  24. If I didn't have a rig then most venues I play I'd be playing electric bass acoustically, so I'd be as well not turning up. 2x10 Combo is ample though as bigger venues usually have PA.
  25. Pop em onto flickr. Whilst on flickr, go to your photostream, click the pic you want & at the bottom right there's a box with an arrow coming out of it. Choose the option that says " [color=#000000][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][b]Grab the HTML/BBCode[/b][/size][/font][/color]" & make sure the bullet is on BBCode. Choose your size in the dropdown, copy the code & paste it straight into here (your reply box). You should get a pic this size if you chose medium...
