1. If anyone says your pedals Should go in any certain order, don't listen to them. Play about, it's 1/2 the fun of having a board. I like my filter after my dirt, some folk prefer it before. Neither of us are wrong. Shep's bass blog on effects is a good read. http://www.sheponbass.co.uk/effects/
2. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in & if that's a bomber jacket, a pair of wellies & a G string, then so be it.
3.
I didn't know you could get Hi-Viz fetishwear.
Pimpmygimp.com
4. It depends what you're wanting to play. Sometimes I listen to Jazz or Funk, other times to house, drum n' bass & dubstep for ideas. I'd say listen to everything you can, including the stuff that doesn't have a bassline.
5. That's what I'm thinking. Sounds like a shop soiled bass & they've wanted rid of it, so advertised the bass at the cheaper price without saying it's actual condition. I wouldn't accept anything other than a replacement.
6. Fit for Purpose. If you buy a practice combo & go gigging with it & it breaks, it wasn't made for that purpose so don't expect to get a replacement. If you buy a rig designed for a life on the road gigging, that is what it's intended purpose was & must be fit to do so.
7. I'm another one who benefits from a little hearing loss. I even have a pair of hearing aids that rarely get worn. We used what was supposed to be decent gear for recording & I think the singer paid the soundy £80 out of the band funds for his day's "work", but that was before we got given the recordings. There's a couple of good studios up here if my new band ever gets to that stage.
8. Bolt ya cheeky sods! It was clay. Was actually on an Alesis HD Recorder (as was the guitars & drums).
9. How long have you had the SR1205? If it's less than 6 months then I would have been demanding a replacement from the off. I wouldn't pay full price for a faulty repaired bass fosho!
10. I'm using a Boss CE2 chorus set like that. Depth on full & the speed set slow, though sometimes I whap the speed up too for a bit of DnB goodness.
11. I don't know how much they are in the UK, but I think buying a new one from Iron Ether would be @ £150 including postage. You could buy a chorus pedal &/or an EHX Octave Multiplexer to do something similar, but when you take in the cost of what you could spend on 2 pedals to do the job of one, it justifies the price of the Polytope.
12. Ahhh, but is it fuzz or gated fuzz? I can't listen to the clip just now.
13. Some companies will try & resist helping you, some even wait until you threaten them with court action.
14. Yes. Although Overdrive & Fuzz are both variations of distortion. I have a distortion pedal on my board that never gets the gain past the 9 o'clock mark as it's just too high gain scratchy (my guitarist would love it). I also have the drive knob turned up a little on my Bass Murf to get the warm fuzz that you're talking about.
15.
What about the EU directive, overridden by the SoGA? I suppose the SoGA will be difficult to invoke should it be needed after the guarantee period
I think whichever you need, you can use. I've used the SoGA a couple of times & had results. Though Game tried to tell me that the SoGA didn't apply to them (by letter too), so I forwarded the letter to Trading Standards & got a replacement Xbox.
16. The warranty is two. The SoGA is 5. It means that the item must be fit for the purpose it was made to do & be free from any defects.
17. All the tracks are the same. 7 stems & how I wanted to give the guy recording us a slap! We recorded 12 songs that day & got 4 tracks back. He said he couldn't get the others off the recorder.
18. I didn't expect everyone to like that song. People have different tastes & I don't take it personal. It was written as a tongue in cheek change to our usual rock stuff. We wasn't a Reggae or Ska band. There was a few folk didn't like last month's choice, but I personally thought it was really good. Reminded me of Steve Earle (& also Take it easy by Eagles).
19. Cheers. I've browsed the ACG website & just drooled all over my keyboard. That ACG Jazz is rather nice, though I wouldn't have it in black (had my share of black basses over the years).
20. We had Handel Concerto Grosso op 12 no 6 pt 3 Aria Larghetto... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rCjqJvSeYM & then once we said our vows this was played... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGWBx51eda8
21.
"GENZ BENZ warrants all products to be free from defects in materials and workmanship, for a period of 2 years (tubes come with a 90 day warranty) from the date of purchase... You need to have registered within 10 days of purchase.
Regardless of warranty, in the UK you're covered for 5 years against the above under your statutory rights.
22. Here's a money saving tip for one bunch of musicians.... Make a duplicate of this forum & just add an "r" to make Brasschat. Saves a fortune on all the individual blowers too. Though you might find the in demand players needing things like Tubachat or Hornchat (though that one might get a lot of visitors expecting something else).
23.
I have them panned hard left and right. There are gaps in either one so it sounds good when used together, it's unfortunate though that only one track has effects
Why not try just a slight pan or putting one in mono & putting the other on a wide stereo spread? Might be too phat a bass sound (though I don't think there's such a thing as too phat).
24.
There's also a lovely contrast between the 2 bass tracks.
The original just had a clean bass. I recorded one with effects that's never been used. Never thought about using the 2 together though!
25. As long as you don't do to me what they're doing to the poor drummer! He's getting replaced by a frikkin drum machine!!! Edited to put the smiley in so no one thinks that I was being serious.
