1. I've already made over 5000 teenage girls scream. Though not all at once (maybe 20 at a time, tops) & not all screamed in a good way.
2. I've got a Markbass 2x10 combo. It's the same as having a LMII & an 8Ω 2x10 cab. It's been plenty loud enough for everything I've needed thus far.
3.
Mix L Thats another odd reverb choice, small hall or chamer, and buckets of it. Reverb is a weird thing, if you can hear it (on a lead vocal) then its too much. If you cant hear it until you turn it off and then realise what you are missing, then you are about right IME. A good reverb is hard to hear until its gone I think. Then you wonder how you lived without it. Also the BV should be a small step behind the lead, to do this a little more reverb, and a little less top end matched to a lightly lower level will do this fiune, but if your lead vocal is swamped in reverb, then there is no behind him to place the BV. Good drums though, if a little loud perhaps?
That's all taken on board. Having another listen, I was a bit heavy with the reverb on the lead vocal. I maybe should have just put reverb on the backing vocal & left the rest dry? The only things I have to listen to things on at the moment are the iMac's speakers & a set of JVC earphones (which are crap compared to the Senny's that a cat chewed up) & being deaf doesn't help. I'm looking forward to the next one now! I have a reggae(ish) track. I'll try & find the stems, but I'm not sure if I still have them (someone has them on a disc). Here's the song itself... http://www.reverbnat...469550-criminal The song is called Criminal.
4. A little more & you could pick up a 2nd hand Markbass LMII. Never played a Rick through it though, so maybe worth trying one out first.
5. I was playing keys & then guitar a few weeks back & one of the guitarists said "you're really good on other instruments, why do you play bass?", to which I replied "because someone needs to make the singer sound good".
6. It can take a little time to get a decent bunch of players together. I went through a few to get the guys I've got together now (though I'm thinking we need a better singer to join us). It can also be a challenge getting musicians who will play the same stuff as you want to. Though mixing styles can work too.
7. The cab dimensions are also pretty small in comparison to any standard bass cab designs. So maybe not really suited to getting the best from a bass driver? I'm pretty sure you could get a decent 2nd hand 1x12 cab for £200.
8. I'd have a look at some of the good 2x12s & 2x15s. They'd be a trade up from a 6x10 or 8x10.
9.
Haha, I know what you're saying mate! Last months mix challenge has a lot to answer for... Yeehaw.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the pic. I think I have an idea! & if I can get one more vote than I got last month, I'll be well chuffed (if I can get one more instrument recorded than I did last month, it would be awesome! ). I finally got a listen to all last months tracks & they are all excellent. I hope to get the time to put in a better effort.
10. It depends on what sort of sound you want from your bass? If you're after loads of zing & replace the strings every few months, stick with rounds. If you want to get rid of the zings, have a more rounded bassy sound & probably never replace your strings again, get flats. I put TI flats on mine a few years back & haven't looked back since.
11. I wouldn't say he's better or worse than Mozart, but he's certainly more irritating.
12.
5 years in England. 6 years in Scotland. But after the first 6 months the burden of proof is on the buyer to show that the faults were there at the beginning, not on the vendor.
Isn't it the other way around? 6 years in England & Wales & 5 up here. I assumed that the OP bought the amp in England too. He would indeed have to prove that it was a faulty part, an engineer's report does the job.
13. Do what I did. Chip all the paint off of it & oil the wood.
14.
Even after a couple of years? I'll give it a go, thanks.
Sale of Goods Act covers you upto 6 years. I took a 3 year old Xbox 360 back for free repairs due to poor workmanship.
15.
No idea why it died. It's used once a week for rehearsals and once a month for gigs. It's always lived in its carry bag and rarely pushed beyond half volume.
Take it back to the shop first. That's who you bought it off of, so they're legally responsible for selling a faulty product. They would then deal with Orange.
16. Well done Skol! I'm guilty of not voting this month. I never got time to listen to all the tracks. I did listen to a good few f them though. I've probably missed the voting deadline on the Mix comp too.
17. My sound is what fits the song. Some songs call for clean bass on the Neck or Bridge pick up, some call for a little dirt or chorus & some need plenty of fx. It's all just tools to use with the band to make our sound.
18. Have you abused the BT? Why has it died? If it's not been your fault, then sack the warranty & take it back under your statutory rights. It's not a £30 amp & should be lasting much longer if it's been treated right.
19. Get a sports car with a decent boot.

Ibanez Porn

Cheers guys. It is indeed an SR1000E. You know your Ibbys! I'd like to get a hold of another neck (or a 5 string Ibby bass) & make one a fretless sometime, but that may be a few yonks away.
21. Yes, but you might need to change the drivers. Why do you want a 2Ω or 4Ω cab? Will your amps not run at 8Ω?
22. I think you need to talk to your band. Let them know your rant, they might go "Oh, we didn't realise". As for the written list, wait & see what comes back. Don't answer t straight away other than to say "I'll review your suggestions". Take the list & if it seems unreasonable, find videos of bassists that do the same as you (preferrably famous ones) & point this out to them (or you could learn to dance whilst playing bass).
23. I've got the 2x10 combo & couldn't rate it highly enough. I play in a funk/breakbeat/house/acid jazz band & everyone in the band has complimented the sound (though that's a mix of the combo, the bass & the effects). Like chris b said though, get to a bass shop & try some stuff out.
24. What do I do when I don't feel like practising? My wife, build my house, go on Basschat, do something in the garden* or play Xbox. *actually it's some weed ridden land, but it's a garden to me.

Unfest 2013

Looks like it was a good gig. A fellow bassist & facebook friend had his band Code: Marla playing on the main stage on Saturday.
